Our priorities in the USA should be lowering real estate prices so citizens can buy affordable homes, stop corporations from buying real estate homes, reduce property taxes, stop tying healthcare to employment, encourage people to get into jobs the country NEEDS like more medical professions, reduce education costs significantly and fast track people into these needed roles, Try to provide free housing to people at every level, even if its small, if its enclosed and safe that would go a long way for our huge homeless problem. While some of the recent tariffs are temporary, to me this seems like a way to tax without taxing. Trump wants to slash taxes and even mentioned cutting income tax for lower brackets. The Treasury is on a time limit and needs some money coming in. This could be his solution to have his cake and eat it too. See you're not incorrect but that's part of the problem. Zoomers and younger millenials still know people who could buy an actual house in a civilized neighborhood while having a wife at home to take care of 2-5 kids. Their parents could still afford a house, though sometimes requiring a second income and with 1-2 kids instead of 5. Their older brother could afford an apartment, but in a somewhat shitty area. Now they're relegated to living at home or buying some shithole apartment with another person. The way things were ( and maybe are, I can't predict the future ) we're about a decade away from telling gen Alpha to just get over themselves and fork over the $500k for a shared mattress under a highway overpass.
