They didn't want to review the movie, they had a topic they wanted to talk about and they used the movie as an excuse. Half in the Bag has basically turned into video essays about whatever they want to talk about, instead of a review of the actual movie.
It has been heading that way for awhile now. Last year they were able to pump out a couple of episodes that actually felt like traditional episodes. But it has become increasingly evident that they hate the state of the film industry and just want to rant about it.

I've said before that the problem with Half in the Bag is that it was their show for directly talking about the mainstream side of what is currently playing in movie theaters. With that industry dying off, there is basically no reason for the show to exist. They basically have had one of their flagship programs neutered by forces that they couldn't control, and they don't know what to do but to use the show as a springboard for complaining about it.
Its not even interesting topics either when they go out of discussing movies since its either about "Studios relying on IPs and Brands" or "The state of Movie Theaters"

I feel the Nerd Crew did more better in discussing broader topics and was actually funny
The difference between the Nerd Crew and now is that there was some sense of optimism with what they were satirizing. For all the jokes they made, I think they genuinely did not anticipate the film industry to get this bad. For whatever problems the film industry was facing back then, they had more hope than they do now that things would improve.

I feel like part of the problem with these guys is that they are losing their minds over the realization that a quick fix isn't coming. Back in the Pam and Tommy review from a few years ago, Jay actually sounded excited about the coming years of film. I think they are expecting for the industry to bottom out given its current state and that there would be this big rebound where quality filmmaking would be in demand again. The problem is that it still hasn't happened, and it doesn't look like it is going to anytime soon. If it even does at all.

Midnight's Edge bitches about Hollywood all the time, but they find ways to make interesting by explaining how it's not working as a business.

Sorry to double post, but i went to the subreddit (lunacy, i know) to see how the reaction was to the episode and some of them have theorized that Mike and Jay may have never even gone to the movie theater to watch it. They based it on the leaked incomplete version of the movie that leaked online with incomplete vfx and how they stopped watching the movie right when it got to the Minecraft world full of vfx. And that on a movie a lot of kids watch there was very few complaints about the movie theater like they usually do. Watching the review again i can see what they are seeing, but there's some things that don't add up like them accidentally watching the 3D session and the one kid laughing at the butt joke. But it was an interesting thought.

Lol, why should I give a fuck if they've seen only half of Minecraft movie? Especially if they disclosed that fact? This is the kind of movie that you know everything about just from trailer. Hell, you could probably write fairly accurate review based on the sentence “Minecraft: starring Jack Black”. It wasn’t their best review, but I don’t think it had much to do with them leaving early.

Mike is wrong and stupid because Barbie had this:

it's really gay how that barbie movie was tryna be all woke and shit with how like every single idpol thing that can be thrown at any target is matter of fact but then in response to the idea of there being fascist elements to mattel or capitalism it suddenly goes "well actually definitionally capitalism involves railroads or control of commerce so tecknikallee!... just ignore corporate funding of colombian death squads"

like nigga just make a toy commercial
i'm sure the movie is absolute dogshit, but all their criticisms boil down to rewriting movies with even bigger cliches.

Referring to Jack Blacks character: "it really should have been, like, there's there's that weird house, and in that weird house was a weird guy and he vanished you know five years ago, and well there's a mystery, AND THEN you get sucked into the world. But it's a small town, everyone has stories about that guy, but nobody's seen him in 30 years"

How many movies have you seen with this plot?
yknow i feel the problem with the review is not the amount they watched but rather who is reviewing it

i think rich shouldve been here, he's the gamer of the group and could provide feedback. mike and jay obviously havent played the game so rich could suggest ideas that are more game-focused

because the thing with games adaptations is you arent just adapting the story but also the experience of playing the game might come into play and then there are elements of the culture surrounding games that is more important than the games themselves

what mike suggests sounds kind of like herobrine, which maybe rich would note and having that kind of back and forth roleplay between fan and creative would be interesting

I feel like they should get Rich in reviews of game adaptations since it would've also been more interesting.

Mike and Jay's review just feels hollow in some places which makes it kinda frustrating even if its a joke why they deny reviewing certain movies since those would at least have more interesting things to say than them rambling about the same few topics.

I liked the definitional reax to being called fascist because it was perfectly in-character; a naïf/newborn, ensouled Frosty the Snowman will always be literal and embody an Asperger's type response to deeply layered conversational speech.
We laugh at things that we find to be true on a fundamental level, and this made me laugh.

Nah I agree, I think if you're going to waste time going to the cinema and make a video review, you might as well as spend the extra 45 minutes and finish the movie. Even if your instincts are correct and you know how its going to end.
It could be that they actually did watch the 2nd half of the movie but are lying about it to make a point.

Excuse me... you're comparing Midnight's Edge to RLM as a way to trash RLM?

Maybe the ME guys have started doing real videos again (meaning, voiceovers and pictures over one of 3 stock music bed tracks they use), but the last I saw, they were doing insufferable, low effort streams almost exclusively. Is the foreign Comic Book Guy still in charge?

RLM barely does their job anymore. They barely make videos at inconsistent times, have zero clue as to why movies are bad now, and are in the Hollywood C-list Cul De Sac of collabs.

Movies are shit but they cant be too hard on them because they have too many contacts in Hollywood. They became like that prick with the red background.
If you don't think that would cause issues imagine Jack Quaid hanging out witth the drinker or E:R. His agent would burst a blood vessel.

Pretty much every review now is a generic" Ehh... is bad, lets mostly talk about unrelated things" or a review of some obscure indie horror movie.

They should just ditch half in the bag if they don't want to do them. Make game shows but with actual rules and with stakes,. I had more fun watching them stack junka tapes than most of the recent videos.

I quit watching Half in the Bag years ago, and I have never watched Re:View (unless it's about Trek). The only things they make that interest me are Best of the Worst and the other random oddball things they do like the trivia game shows (absolute peak content) and that paranormal investigation thing. They had that quasi documentary thing about the Nukie tape that was breddy gud. Sometimes they post videos about their stupid arts and crafts projects and those are nice. Shit like that. If they basically stopped reviewing current and popular movies and switched to only doing odd video topics and trivia shows + Best of the Worst I would be much happier with their content. But realistically they most likely rely on the clicks from posting videos containing CURRENT THING in the title too much, even if they wanted to abandon reviews.

Mike has developed a sixth sense with theater audiences. He could sense the upcoming disaster that would occur with the chicken jockey scene like a land animal anticipating a tsunami from an underwater earthquake and naturally fled from ground zero.

I used to watch these guys all the time, but after that one episode they did trying to berate the audience into liking woke shit I watch them sparingly. Just deep fucking down every one in the entertainment business no matter how small is secretly globohomo who begs for Talmudistic rule. Not because they believe in it but because they believe following it will let them fuck kids.

If you like, see above a post in which I described in possibly too much detail why RLM should shut up politically.
They fail a very basic shit test.
