One complaint about trump I have is that he isn’t pushing nuclear power enough, it can’t be understated just how much of game changer having nuclear power for your country ensures it will prosperous.

It's strange, while both have libertarian tendencies Massie in the past at least seemed accepting of tariffs. I don't know if he has changed his stance or not. Maybe he is fine with tariffs but wants lower taxes?

Rand Paul (and Ted Cruz) are more concerned about it though apparently.
No matter how you slice it, tariffs are taxes. Many libertarians would be more receptive if the existing taxes and regulations are seriously curtailed.
Trump has talked about reducing income tax, but before that happens it will increase everyone's tax burden, increase costs overall for everyone. This is what they're saying. They're (mostly) not reflexively against because muh orange man, but because they see costs and taxes increasing. This will decrease economic activity elsewhere. If you spend more for X, then you may spend less for Y.

Those are unseen economic consequences.

God, I love finance. All we need now is a massive meme stock to reddit up again, Cramer to convince everyone to panic sell, Apple to declare the apple pro vision 2.0, Trump declaring Laos to be now Americas number one ally and some Chinese diplomat declaring a %800 increase in tariffs (for third rate rebar).
Laotian? What ocean?

What if it was destroyed by Chinese separatist completely unrelated to the trade war? How about if it's hit by a stealth attack with no proof we are involved? It sounds like this damn is a ticking time bomb if there going to nuke America whenever it eventually collapses like every other Chinesium product anyway.

I suppose ending the world rather than manage the humanitarian crisis it's collapse would create is a solution. Also I agree China is so weak their basic infrastructure can only be defended with threats of ending the earth "ancient Chinese secret" lmfao
Mother Nature might just do it. People were thinking the rainy season in China during 2020 would cause it to collapse.

O'Leary is smart. China just doesn't fucking play by the rules.

I listen to (among many other news shrews) Ben Shapiro regularly and the one things he has been saying the past few days, which is indicative of how geopolitically stupid he is (it's one of his weak spots, for sure), is that Japan (and others) will do more business with China because of US tariffs.

No they fucking aren't! Doing business with China is a monkey's paw and everyone knows it. They steal your IP, they dump your markets with cheap crap, and they break all their agreements with the hope that you'll get a new president in 5 years who forgets all about it.

O'Leary gets it: people are sick of doing business with China.

I'm just waiting for the highskilled etsy/serious cosplay/historical costumer contingent to realize what this all means for them personally

right now the association of being anti-MAGA with being smart, educated, cultured is still very strong, strong enough that the corporate press thinks it will last forever.

it rests on people who aren't especially any of those things except highly educated. they have to throw in with the democratic party establishment to validate their life choices because if being anti-trump isn't what smart and cultured people do, how do they know they're smart and cultured? the size of their student loans?

the nanosecond someone high profile in one of those worlds breaks ranks and starts an American made line of vintage inspired shoes or something, anything garment/textile related? they won't even have to support Trump, all they will have to do is be apolitical.

There are specific youtubers I predict are going to get massively rich, people who have had offers to partner with Chinese manufacturers and have said no because of their values and ethics, who will absolutely start up garment manufacturing if they can do it in a way that protects labor and the environment.

and once that starts happening it's all over. Right now there is no ideological/cultural space for the 35yo woman with 70k in student loan debt teaching middle school oand trying to make sense of her life that doesnt' involve freaking out about MAGA. That space requires people being employed in that space, right now those people are all employed by Soros and the .gov. We're on the cusp of a huge change.
