I’m open to consneeding on being wrong, but I really thought this was public knowledge. Maybe I watched some lawtuber go over the case separately years ago and learned this. I checked back to the old Karl video about it and didn’t find a direct mention.

It was definitely possible to know that the lawsuit was about the claims about Apollo's suicide. I had to look back through my own posts in the lawsuit thread, because the lawsuit had been going on for so long and the information was so all over the place, but that one Pacman blogger guy mentioned it at least once, and so I knew at one point (and then forgot lmao). But the legal arguments against the suicide claim in court were that the reputational damage came from Billy's texts about Apollo's suicide (Mitchell did a "" when he learned about it), not the actual claim about causing the suicide.

And I only saw that legal argument once (though I also only read that blog once). Even in court, the defense was, the majority of the time, redirected towards addressing the cheating allegations. Most of the witnesses the defense brought in were only addressing the cheating allegations and how that was what ruined Mitchell's reputation. I think only the one witness was asked about the Apollo Legend claims.

I think most people just weren't looking that deeply into it, and since they already didn't like Mitchell, they were taking Jobst's side and relying on his and his friends' representations of what the case was about, which was the cheating. Jobst was definitely obfuscating the facts of what was going on, not just in his videos, but also in his legal defense.

Idk, I think the confusion was one part people not being sympathetic at all towards Mitchell, and so taking Jobst's word at face value without doing any deeper research, and one part Jobst using his popularity and reputation as the "Mitchell warrior" to manipulate his audience, and the broader audience as a whole.

I watched Karl's videos between a lot of other videos.
I would not describe me as a Karl fan, I just watched some of his videos, I never gave him any money. Donating to legal fundraisers is stupid.

It was just slop drama content like so many other channels on YouTube and its a convenient way to stay updated on what the current bullshit topic is.
I expect that the majority of viewers fall into the same category, since speedrunning content is not even close to popular enough to explain the number of subscribers Karl has, and the drama videos catch a lot more views than his speedrunning video did.

If Karl, Mutahar and other Youtubers were the primary source of information about Billy and the lawsuit there is a good chance that viewers missed some bits that could have clued them in. But that is not what the complaints are about. The complaints about Karl about the fact that he was never upfront about it, never made a video to properly explain it, and let the viewers fill in the blanks, which was "Billy is a cheater who files frivolous lawsuits".

Even knowing that maybe one lawsuit could be about Apollo does not mean viewers were mistaken to to assume the lawsuit would ALSO deal with cheating accusations, since those and the concern notices had been covered, in depth, by Karl himself. If he talked about those defamatory statements about cheating being dropped from the lawsuit I never read about it before or saw/heard it mentioned in a video.

As a viewer of his channel, I was very confused when the other thread was featured about Karl when he first lost the lawsuit, since I hadn't been closely following the drama that ensued. All I knew was the story that Karl was presenting: Karl made videos exposing Billy as a cheater, and so Billy decided to be a litigious cunt and sue him. So the news that he lost what should've been an obvious slam dunk came to a surprise to me.
