Someone made a reference to a phrase ("short and sweet like the old woman's dance") to me and I looked it up—it was from Lincoln's first speech for political office in the Illinois legislature. Here's the entirety of his speech:

An alcoholic I know absolutely demolished his GI tract drinking and taking ibuprofen. Bleeding so much he passes out and has to get whole blood infusions. Repeat for long enough and now they have him on colostomy and he's too afraid to go through the surgery to get fixed.

Once upon a time being any sort of craftsperson was maximum protected. No employees, just one bitch at a time to be your slave as price for a trade school education. Us, farmers, miners and woodsmen were the source of basically all wealth. Early traders performed arbitrages predicated on scarcity. Miners were less well off because technically the land owner owned the ore and you got paid to dig it for him, and the land owners paid you to cut their tees for them.

But then we got herded up and stuck into factories, and this is when the service sector was really born.

Suddenly everyone has some justification for sitting in a basement office contemplating the loss of a stapler, and all the actual wealth comes from the same place it always did. People made shit up like “oh check out this twiddlefuck index, it means you owe me more money,” and then people started believing that currency got its value from faith instead of representing trade goods

Then we decided we don’t need craftsmen! We can tell the chinks about the twiddlefuck index and make them send us shit for free!
