MARATHON Trilogy - Official Trilogy, Forge & Anvil, and Scenarios

They look like airsofters or paintballers and not in any way cool or interesting
I almost like it. It reminds me of Synthetik where all the androids, robots and tanks are basically 3d printed prototypes. It makes it seem like these "runners" or whatever are all essentially piloting sleek but cheaply-made remote bodies.
The problem is it doesn't say "Marathon" to me. I'm unconvinced that this game began its life as a Marathon sequel and not an original IP.
this character design would've been a lot cooler without the fucking stupid lipstick bars on the cheeks.

This, by contrast, I don't like. The prototypical style is lost here and it just kind of looks like an out-of-place Cyberpunk 2077 character.
They are actually going to explain the Marathon logo as "it is just the way the ship looks from space against Mars hurdur".
Pretty sure that's just a stylistic thing my man, no need to get so riled up.

So there was a fair bit of asset reuse from destiny animation wise. I don't think that's inherently bad per se, the gunplay and feel in even modern destiny has always been one of the few remaining good points. I don't really understand alot of the aesthetic choices and can't say I like it from what I know of the original Marathon. I entirely expect this game to be slop.

>The kicker here is that Marathon is going to launch as a premium product, meaning players will be asked to pay full price. Based on what I experienced and was told, it'll have a battle pass, three maps (with a fourth arriving shortly after launch); fun but no-frills gameplay; a story that currently is all very vague in its nature and unclear in its implementation; and a character-progression system that doesn't yet show signs of offering a meaningful sense of growth.

This is the death keel for this game, it just seems like Apex Legends but you carry guns between matches from the company with a terrible reputation. It is not gonna win over the dad gamers still playing Destiny and it won't be breeching the Zoomer consciousness with a 40 dollar pricetag

All they had to do was make a single player experience, but Bungie is so brain rotted from years of Destiny development that they cannot fathom making one anymore.

Quick reminder that this was the artstyle of the scrolling chapter pages by Craig Mullins:

Not in the games, but is basically the same style:

Now, I would forgive a lot of this shit that the new game is saying is the new lore, like the game's players being called "runners", but the biggest sin this reboot has to throw at me is what they did to Demos.

Fuck off.

I feel the need to show more of Mullins' artwork here, most of which are actually featured in Marathon 2 in the chapter screens:

This artwork set the tone for the entire series. It's dark, grimy, textured, mottled. Looks miserable to have to live in but it's sure beautiful to look at. The whole setting of Marathon was quite bleak. Humanity is flinging itself out into the vast unknown with great effort and gets slaughtered for their troubles, and Mullins' artwork filled in the gaps left out by the blocky 2.5 world and helped our imaginations along.

Whatever the Christing fuck this new garbage is, it feels like some retard's vision of how things would be if Apple stores had a paintball arena 10-20 years from now.

Get off my fuckin lawn, etc etc

Mandalore reviewed the whole franchise a couple of years ago. You think he will give this a go, only to shit on it as a sort of epilogue for his little series?

The shotgun 3D model looks exactly like the one from Starfield.
Also imagine releasing a gameplay trailer at 30 fps.

You know what? I'd rather play NEOTOKYO° than this crap.

Classic "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain" Bungie.

Destiny 2 showed that they don't have what it takes to make story content.

Oh dear
I sense a gun gore video in the near future
For reference, how fucking awful Starfield guns are in both look and execution:

I almost stroked out seeing the gun designs and had to huff copium with "it's a sci-fi game they're going to be silly and comical!"
but this is also, an art style I call "Troon slop misinterpreted cyberpunk aesthetic" which appeals only to sex offenders who own that fucking IKEA shark plushie.

This is a game for absolute retards too afraid to play Tarkov, and too shit to even kill some dregs in Destiny 2 PVE. Except, they'll suck in this too! :story:

A extraction shooter that you can use loot on other missions. Okay, I’m interested. Watches the trailer and the art direction. Pass

The art direction and colors are very off putting. This looks like it’s for late teen/early 20s zoomer. Understand that’s who they are targeting now. But why Zoomer tastes so ugly?

Oh boy, extracting loot in what looks like a nightmare world of Destiny and Mirrors Edge colliding to make the fugliest art style I've seen in a while. Skinwalking not just a good series name, but the studio that created it as well.

I hope this fails miserably, but knowing the average gamer nowadays, it'll do well for a year or two then fade into obscurity.

If it plays anything like Destinys PVP it will be completely horrible with broken shit all over the place and horrible balance but not in the fun way of Halo CE and 2. Bungies multiplayer got worse and worse as they abandoned the "party game" ethos they had for the development of Halo 1-3s MP.

I have seen videos of it but I never played it. From what I understand it's proto Halo. I think it was one of Bungies first games.

Is it worth playing these days?

That's a difficult question, if you have low tolerance for older FPS games then I doubt you will have much fun. They're free on Steam however, so you have nothing to lose. At the very least look up what they're about, since the narrative is amazing. Mandalore did a good series of videos(there is a non-Marathon game that directly involved with the narrative, keep that in mind).
