Why has there been a big push for Indian land "acknowledgement" lately?

Am I the only one who has noticed that there has been a lot of statements lately about "recognizing the ancestral land of indians here" lately? I had never really heard this movement until relatively recently, and now I see it everywhere. For example, the Democrats most recent platform includes this statement at the very beginning:

"The Democratic National Committee wishes to acknowledge that we gather together to state our values on lands that have been stewarded through many centuries by the ancestors and descendants of Tribal Nations who have been here since time immemorial. We honor the communities native to this continent, and recognize that our country was built on Indigenous homelands. We pay our respects to the millions of Indigenous people throughout history who have protected our lands, waters, and animals. While we meet in Chicago, we also recognize and honor the traditional homelands of the Anishinaabe, also known as the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi Nations."

Indians have never really been a big part of liberal movements in recent years. They are a puny part of the US population and I don't believe I have ever personally met one in my life. Have you noticed this much lately? And if so, why do you think it is being pushed so hard?

For instance the Ojibwe never lived anywhere near Chicago or had any connection to the Chicago area. The Odawa, never lived anywhere near Chicago but least may of had a trade connection with the area. The only person I met in real life that did this, was a rich, smug and stupid girl who knew nothing about native Americans and were shocked they did not live in teepees and there houses are tiny compared to hers.

As others have said it's just a virtue signal for the most part. A way of showing off how much you care but without taking any real action. I think I first heard of land acknowledgements being a thing some time during Trump's first term, but I've only ever seen them recently in Canadian and Australian media. Weirdly enough the city of Philadelphia and various institutions within that city do land acknowledgements despite the fact that the land was bought paid for by William Penn himself. The land was never stolen but they still feel the need to do this shit anyways. What I wonder though is what actual Native Americans think of this shit. Do they fall for the pandering or do they see right through it for what it is? True and honest injuns pls respond.

All 100% true, however I would like to add that this all fundamentally hinges on what is effectively the currentyear "White Man's Burden" which holds White people and White nations/cultures/societies up to an infinitely higher moral standard than everyone else on the planet and thus rendering only White people as worthy of moral condemnation for historically doing shit everyone else did (i.e. conquest, enslavement, assimilation, settlement)
