The concept of government can be traced back to the tribal system and is the natural logical outgrowth of such.

Which itself is an outgrowth of the family unit.

Thus you destroy the family unit, you detonate in slow-motion, the system of governance above it.

A little anecdotal but it's my impression that people are doing jaunts to the USA less now because they're travelling less and preferring shorter and cheaper trips. Also, I knew people who would make the whole thing into a shopping trip - flying to New York for two days to go round all the shops and such. That is out for many people now.

This reply is for @Hey Johnny Bravo too. I think both might be ascribing too much of a political motive to just people either having less money or feeling financially less certain. Of course if holidays to Tokyo are up the same amount weekends in New York are down, I'll stand corrected but this is my impression.

As much as I despise the clothing, music, and visual aesthetic of the 1945-1960 era, it really does feel like they had cultural norms and governmental system of how to operate a society absolutely perfected.

The America you think existed isn't the America that actually existed. Not to say it wasn't a 'better' time in some respects, but it wasn't the propaganda mill version designed specifically to encourage generalization of identity as 'Americans' in order to dilute regional identity.

Plus a lot of what made it 'better' was the aftereffects of being the world's only industrialized nation since everyone else was bombed to shit and back.

Look up some of the shit the federales specifically FBI and CIA were up to at the time. Also that's the beginnings of the M.I.C.'s enmeshment with the government and the public psyche to justify the foreverwars we have today.

If you want to truly go back to 'how to operate a society' you'd need to go far further back.

The people left don't debate the presupposed issues, it is completely team-sports. When was the last debate between a positivist and a rationalist? Probably 100 years ago. Despite massive innovations that have occurred in the field in the past few years. The US political system has bent to unconstitutional forces for about 100 years. Where is the fourth branch of the government for the CIA and dozens of other independent agencies? Where does the federal government have the right to have it's own police aka the FBI. Where does it have the right to take everyone's gold?

I'm not super into the abortion issue, but even when I was nominally "pro-choice" I knew Roe was bullshit. Penumbras (shadows) of the Fourth amendment (unlawful searches and seizures) means women can have 9th month abortions was ridiculous.
