But Chance wants to believe I am that Josh/Tobias guy, mostly because of the "gf in highschool"(Josh's gf is 22) thing, just as much as he wants to believe Marty was in love with him, because it fits his "but what about this guy, go after him, not me" narrative, the "go after Tony the black dragon lord or whithe Bowser, go after them but not me".

That behavior is part of why I always get a kick out of the people who try to stick up for him. Even if they don't end up rekt, Chance is still going to throw them under the bus the second he thinks it's convenient for him.
