General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Anyone hand waving the obvious management issues away needs to remember these two points.
as someone who's been pretty vocal in saying I think people get a LITTLE bit too eager with the "death to management" pitchforks. The issue I've always taken with the quoted line of thinking there has been that while yes it's true that NDA's will limit stuff, but we see well enough from Niji, an equally litigious nip company, that after leaving talents will still find a way to let you know the situation was shit and they were glad to get out of it.

But never from ex holos, even the queen of "Say whatever the fuck I want don't care if I get taken to court" menhera herself Rushia. Like just from a probability standpoint it seems super unlikely to me that from the two sample groups, both coming from lawyer happy NDAs, Only one of the two groups seems to have people, consistently at that, talking about leaving the shitshow behind. and that just being a coincidence.

Or is there some other reason that folks think that NijiEN members all vocalize their complaints and negative experiences while Holos don't. Because I just don't know why one would but the other wouldn't and the NDA explanation just doesn't click when both parties are certainly under them.

Fuwamoco was always going to be big because they are: Halfus, speak JP fluently, were well regarded "not-indies" who got fucked over by a creator who thought people were tuning into their streams because of the game, and like old japanese shit. The girls in JP were all over them.

It took a bit of time before the rest of Advent caught on and found their niches. Biboo was way too scatter brained at first. Nerissa leaned in way to heavily with the GFE shit. Shiori was always doing weird streams.

It just takes time for the filters to kick in. Shirori is still Shiori and doing Shiori shit, but the casuals were filtered. It's like that for all of Advent.

It was like that for Council too. It's nothing new.
Now that you mention Nerissa, I find her modern style very interesting. Instead of your classic GFE she has evolved into a...Young Recently Married Wife Experience, if you catch my drift. She is parasocial FOR her audience and this seems to be working wonders for her.

...also it's kinda funny how she streams right before or right after every graduation announcement, as a way to say "Hey fucker, looking for a new oshi?"

But never from ex holos, even the queen of "Say whatever the fuck I want don't care if I get taken to court" menhera herself Rushia.
To piggyback off of this, this is the same woman who will literally shittalk anyone and everyone she thinks wrongs her. She recently had a menhera meltdown over someone who looked similar to Rushia and another who had a Twitter tag she wanted. She has talked shit about her ex husband who was literally suing her. She never once said anything about the management in hololive that could even be construed as something people would give a shit about. There is 100% something going on, but with Nijisanji being a blacker company than the blackest of nogs in Compton, there is conflation from both people who know jack shit and people who want hololive to fail.

It's going to be interesting to see how this affects the overall scene moving forward.
Sure, Calli implied that there wouldn't be anymore graduations for the foreseeable future, but I feel that Gura leaving will definitely have some sort of domino effect.
Vtubing constantly has new waves of talents: 2views become indies become new genmates, etc., there's always new faces. But Gura is seen as kind of the best and brightest of the "old guard" of EN Vtubers. I don't think it's going to become too much of "the old gods are dead" or anything, but I think it'll change how newly-signed talents (and to a lesser extent, those who are still around) will go about streaming.
Call me retarded, but I think this will be a turning point for Vtubing as a whole.

I really can't help but think back at all the times folks here got on my case for saying "something is majorly wrong at Cover" and smirk a bit. Not happy about this news, but it's also not unexpected if you read the tea leaves at all. But beyond Gura being on the way out for several years now, the big thing is that Cover is letting her go. Not as an affiliate, just flat out "There's not gonna be any more Gura merch". I don't think people realize how much shit she sold. Aqua was also a big loss, but not as big as this. This is your mascot vanishing.

I'll say it again, and I don't give a shit who thinks I'm stupid for saying it, but there's something very wrong at Cover right now. If THIS many people are graduating, and have been in the process of graduating for months now, and nearly all of them have cited "Disagreements with Management", then you're a fucking idiot if you dismiss that there might be issues with management.

As for those who are left, honestly this is the last one I'd expect. Fauna came out of nowhere, but Ame, Gura, and Mumei all had feelings of "They aren't gonna last much longer." As for who's left, Bae is literally living her dream, Mori has that sweet UMG contract and just performed in front of the Emperor of Japan, Kronii is financially tied to supporting her parents and has a long history of dealing with bad situations by just continuing and not complaining rather than change anything, Kiara is likely too schizo to leave, Ina might leave because she has her other career to support her but she seems pretty happy with the way things are currently for the most part, plus the Amiami collab, so I doubt she goes. Biboo and FWMC just came to Japan on what is likely a business visa so they would have to leave the country if they quit, Shiori seems to just be vibing with whatever she has, and while Nerissa is neurotic as fuck, she'd never leave Kiara. Justice is FAR too new to be thinking of leaving.

But yeah, shit sucks. I don't know if we'll see Senzawa again considering that she would not be able to fly under the radar and be the same unfiltered gremlin she once was. If she ever streamed again it would instantly have hundreds of thousands of viewers, and it sure seems like that is a big reason why she doesn't stream due to the stress and pressure of it. At this point, I want to see what Cover does to fix this. Are they as bad as Niji or Brave? Of course not. But things are not alright in the house of Cover.

Cover knew that Gura was leaving ever since...around the same time as Amelia, tbh, and they decided to go ALL IN to Advent, pump the gas, full nitro. Advent merch Advent songs Advent events Advent unity, Cover doesn't want to have just one Gura but five mini-Guras.

And it's doing great, actually. FWMC is always first in merch sales and last month they were second in superchats (behind IRyS) and Bijou is first in CCV and third in superchats. Nerissa is picking up abandoned fanbases and her CCV has grown ever since Fauna left, and Shiori...she is doing her best lol

However, there is a bit of frustration by the pre-Advent members, Calli was pensive about the fact that, while Advent had everything done to them, Myth rarely could go through with a project.

I see people saying this all the time, to the point that some random retard who ran a hentai booth at a con was casually talking to me about it. Where the hell are you people getting this?

This will absolutely have a domino effect. Like I have implied in previous posts, if the top earner is worked to burn out, what incentive do you have to try to take that spot?

If all you care about is money, burn hot and fast. But if you want to do what you love, money isn't everything.

In what metric? While I don't want to claim Gura wasn't important, as she was easily one of the most important vtubers ever, but she was nowhere near the top earner in hololive. Not counting people who graduated that year and got a buff, FWMC and Koyori got the highest amount of superchats in 2024. Gura wasn't even in the top 20. She had less than ERB for goodness sakes. But if you mean like mascot and merch, then maybe.

imo they struck Gold with Advent, they are distinct enough that they all have a particular personalities and the character designs were absolute peak, I fucking love FuwaMoco but the rest of Advent are in the rest of my Top 5, Shiori being the strange yapping weirdo, Nerissa being the lewd one of the 5, Biboo just being a Gen Alpha video game enjoyer, and FuwaMoco being teletubbies for autistc adult men, they all have a unique niche, I also like Justice too but they arent nearly as varied.

Some streamers are mentally prepared to become #1 some are not. Right now Bijou is killing it, is she prepared to be #1? Absolutely not. Is someone like Calli or IRyS or FWMC prepared to be #1? Absolutely, but I doubt one of them will become the new face.

They're not calling out management. "Differences in direction" is not a call out.
Saying they have "disagreements with management" is specifically calling out management as one of the reasons why. And the context of that post was saying that if they're willing to say this, to say they would never be willing to say anything negative about idol culture because they're scared of NDAs is ludicrous. And it's just a cope when they've all said they like doing idol things.
