General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

In what metric? While I don't want to claim Gura wasn't important, as she was easily one of the most important vtubers ever, but she was nowhere near the top earner in hololive. Not counting people who graduated that year and got a buff, FWMC and Koyori got the highest amount of superchats in 2024. Gura wasn't even in the top 20. She had less than ERB for goodness sakes. But if you mean like mascot and merch, then maybe.
To be fair you have to go back several years to see Gura's actual numbers. The last several she has barely streamed which contributes to her lackluster numbers. That doesn't change the fact that she was a major face for Cover. Hell, she was the main one used for the Dodgers collab. Gura's merch is EVERYWHERE. Remember that huge ass statue? All that shit is gone now. That revenue source is cut off. They WILL feel that.

They're not calling out management. "Differences in direction" is not a call out.
Somehow I knew you'd be the exact type of idiot to make my point for me.

Saying they have "disagreements with management" is specifically calling out management as one of the reasons why. And the context of that post was saying that if they're willing to say this, to say they would never be willing to say anything negative about idol culture because they're scared of NDAs is ludicrous. And it's just a cope when they've all said they like doing idol things.
Its the agreed upon boilerplate reason that management tells them to use. For some reason people interpret this as some awful argument with the company when it's just as it sounds, their motivation to work doesn't align with the work requirement and it's time to split.

You think MANAGEMENT tells them to say that they disagree with MANAGEMENT?! Not "I have health issues" or "I want a change in direction", explicitly "Hey I don't agree with the direction management is taking". That's retarded.

That I agree with. However, I disagree with the assertion that it will necessarily lead to a domino effect to the level stated. Perhaps if it was Gura in 2021, but not now. Anybody with a brain could see that the writing was the wall. And despite management's blunders, I certainly hope they had more than 2 braincells to understand this and waned off of relying on Gura to be a major seller. But who knows?

I never said this btw. It's a disagreement of some kind that lead to it being mentioned. I have no idea how severe it is. But they did mention it.

Oh totally. They have weaned off relying on Gura with Marine, Suisei, and Miko growing on popularity, but it still was a MAJOR factor for them. FWMC, for all of their kayfabe, aren't even close to the level Gura was in her prime. This will affect their bottom line. It already has affected their stock price.

I can't stop laughing, god I wish /vt/ was up. Speaking of, they really do take that website into consideration. As soon as it was down, they put together a graduation at the snap of a finger. I mean everyone not braindead knew already that the streamers and managers constantly browse that place, but I didn't think jap top managers would take it seriously as well.

I can only imagine what /chumbud central/ would be doing. That's not even the main split for Gura, it's the split explicitly made to only have positive statements about Gura and cunnyposting.

There canned "disagreements with management' statement is the most vague thing fucking ever. It's so vague no one can determine what that actually means and why people are even speculating and arguing about it. If Gura came straight out and said" Cover is working the talents like Chinese sweatshop workers and their demands are insane", that would damage Cover beyond recognition. There are also for sure NDAs with non disparagement clauses so even if they wanted to be actually truthful they couldn't or their insanely litigious nip bosses would sue the fuck out of them.
Listen, you’ve incurred the wrath of some of the worst scum and villainy on this site…HoloSimps.

Just sit back and wait for the next talent to leave, say I told you do, then wait again.
It’s easy.
I have been here for years and I can speculate and criticize the multi million dollar vtuber idol company. You are the one that needs to fuck off.
Can only criticize Nijisanji, not “best girl” Yagoo.
I hope it all burns down around his head.
Technically no one knows what Gura is going to do after graduating, but the safest bet is that she will resume her past persona Senzawa (considering she even cryptically tweeted from that account a few days ago) or she will follow in the recent graduates of Amelia and Fauna and create a new IP and be indie... she could take a prolong break before returning as well, which would not be shocking either.
She has baked in fanbase already. Even if she rebrands, she’ll keep the channel with over a million subs. Numi kept the lemonleaf channel and Dooby kept the SachiOwO channel.
but because you're saying things that are easily disproven by actually listening to what departing talents are telling you (regarding Idol stuff)
Right because if someone says something, it’s true and nobody has ever said similar things to not make trouble and smooth the situation over.

How come it keeps happening to the ones who clearly were less comfortable being stereotypical Japanese idols?
like it's some sort of sign of something deeper that doesn't exist.
People like you aren’t fans of the person. You’re fans of the character/company.
has no basis in reality
How doesn’t it? They keep saying “disagreement with management”

Who’s the one denying reality again?
And whatever the trend of "I can say whatever stupid shit I want if it's about a company because I can just deflect any criticism of what I say by acting like the person criticizing me is a corpo bootlicker" Can genuinely fuck off.
IMG_0818.webp
If the boot fits fuckboy.
they're telling you "yeah that doesn't make sense or check out with reality. Bad criticism, of even a big company, is still bad criticism. Cover's definitely had their fuck ups but some of you guys tread way off the path of reality and just write basically fanfic while ignoring reality.
Say “ignoring reality” 50 more times and you might will yourself being right into existence.
Anyone hand waving the obvious management issues away needs to remember these two points.
Don’t try reasoning with some of these fucking morons.
I see people saying this all the time, to the point that some random retard who ran a hentai booth at a con was casually talking to me about it. Where the hell are you people getting this?
Ally and Sally are FUWAMOCO.
Ally and Sally look half Asian. Idk if they actually are but they LOOK it.
Holy shit this thread blew up since 4chan shut down. A joke ended up becoming a necessity.

"edit" WOW, Gura is graduating!? Was it the manager again
Very late. But yes she is and yes that’s why.
HoloSimps keep deflecting tho.
The twins are maple-blooded canucks.
Yes but they look Asian despite saying they’re not.

Gura was always the number 1 merch mover in EN, this is from 2024

sure why wouldn't they?

The point has largely been "disagreement with management and company direction" isn't actually them saying much of anything. It's vague and bare minimum while still being honest and similar statements have been common from holo and beyond for years.

Your shock that someone might think management plays into the use of the vague phrase stems from presuming it to immediately be something far more so you're shocked 'you think they'd make them say something THAT BAD" when it's....... not that bad, it's just open ended, like most corporate messaging. Looking at it as the milquetoast statement that it is it's far less surprising to consider that managers/management is stamping that statement with approval.

It's interesting that to this day, Gura is still the most displayed/produced item in places like Artist Alley at cons. Every booth that has vtuber merch has Gura merch in some form. I'm not saying that this is the end all be all barometer, but I like using the artist alley as a good idea of what the 'casual fan' wants given the people selling art and product there are doing so to make money, so they have to sell things people want to buy.

Does Liz have unicorns??
Mainly when she would get raided. The conversation would typically unfold like:
>"Why the fuck is Kiara raiding erb again"
>What's the problem with erb?
>"Likes the faggots"
Could just be 4chan breeding the worst attention whores of all time, but I've seen it a few times.

Nijisanji recently allowed a graduated member to collab with a current member. After so many graduations do you see Hololive doing the same someday?
Everyone thought that was the whole reason for affiliated status being a thing.

every one has been ‘disagreements with management, i don’t like the direction’ every time. It has been explicitly said.

And yes, I’d think they’d rather get them to say that than ‘your Oshi is critically dying’

Except that every time it's come up, it's been laden with vitriol. Do you remember when Ina was talking about how badly Cover screwed up her visa situation? If you can't tell how angry she was by the tone in her voice, I don't know what to tell you. Fauna too sounded pissed when she was reading her statement.

Look, if you wanna believe that everything is perfectly fine at Cover despite a year of MASSIVE talents leaving, then you can live in that delusional world. Again, my entire point in reiterating this is because I hope that as a result, something is going to change for the folks still left. I like many people at Cover, and I don't want to see anyone else leave due to "disagreements with management".
You think they're making unapproved statements in the capacity of their work using their employer's IP?
I think that's the level at which they are allowed to say. I don't think they're allowed to say how upset they are with how management is behaving, yes. I believe that is the maximum allowed, and it's telling that they all have said it now.

This will absolutely have a domino effect. Like I have implied in previous posts, if the top earner is worked to burn out, what incentive do you have to try to take that spot?

If all you care about is money, burn hot and fast. But if you want to do what you love, money isn't everything.
Exactly. I think it will, at the very least, be a factor in whether or not indies decide to audition for corps.
I don't think that every indie is just biding their time until they get signed, mind you, but when Hololive is hemorrhaging talents, it's definitely time to take pause and reconsider if it's worth it in the long run to become a corpo.

FWMC cannot replace Gura by themselves. Gura had a very specific power that few of the other talents can really claim - mass normie recognition. In the English-speaking world, she's almost the face of vtubing itself.

FWMC just doesn't have the same kind of raw brand recognition. The idea of Cover going all in on a couple of EN talents because they make the JPs feel good even to the detriment of their actual talents who have more appeal in the English-speaking market seems so retarded that it's definitely the sort of thing an out-of-touch Japanese entertainment company would do.

I'm just glad ID is too weird and wild to be hemmed in. Mashallah for SEA girl failures.

You know, that made me have a thought. I'm not gonna speculate on which JP will graduate next if any, but if I had to guess an ID that was going to graduate, it'd be Ollie. She both feels like she's accomplished all she wanted to accomplish and also thinks she isn't good enough to do more.
