Postmortem Blinded by the Light

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Apologies if mentioned, but highlight-to-quote does not appear to be working on lengthy, unreply-able posts, at least on Brave Android.

Works fine on short posts.

Tor desktop - the drafts button gets cut off when the window size is narrow enough to have the top banner contained (not spanning the width of the page). As soon as the width of the page is extended and makes the banner span, it removes the three dots and lets the drafts button rest on the main bar which doesn't get cut off.

I'd post a screenshot but it's turning into a webp goop when I try to upload it. Dunno if that's because I'm on Tor or otherwise...

There's another issue with drafts (including autosaved ones) not clearing after posting a message. Noticed it happens when the thread I'm posting to has had new messages.

midnight crackpot idea

make a poll: would users prefer a faster site or no .webp conversion

leave it up for a week

winner gets all

I want the old comic layout back. As the godfather to my kiwi farms born child you owe it to me @Null

I wonder if you can add in some type of survey poll? Where someone can post a comment in the thread, and have someone can vote in their own comment, instead of using a 3rd party website.

Please return the ability to partially quote long posts by selecting relevant text and clicking "reply" in the popup.

Possible compromise: Enable all the media formats again, but add a function to quickly attach an image and turn it into webp if the poster wants. At that point, it's all a preference of taste(and we can bully people who still post webps)
I am not sure if the issue is only on my end, but I don't get image popping up in higher resolution when I click the thumbnail anymore, I have to open the image in a new tab to see it in full.

One thing that confuses me is every time I post here, the post form text is not cleared. Why is that?

Made my first post since the clusterfuck and there's definitely new unusual buggy behavior.

Not even getting into visual elements, this is purely a functional bug.

Browser: Brave 1.77.97 on Android phone

Task: Write reply draft, edit it, and click post reply on existing thread

Expected behavior: HTTP post goes through, the draft clears, and my post shows up on whatever page I'm currently on in the thread (but in reality posts on the last page of the thread)

Actual behavior: Clicking post reply silently submits and shows my post on the current page, but does not clear the reply draft box even though my post goes through. If I want to post again in the thread I have to manually clear the reply box from the previous draft by selecting all and hitting backspace.

Why it's a problem: The clearing of the reply draft box after reply submission is the visual signal to the end user that your post went through.

xenforo is a piece of shit. i haven't had a chance to do a diagnostic on why that happens, but it appears to only happen if your post triggers the "Messages have been posted since you loaded this page" alert. I'm not sure if that's accurate.

So the problem I described in my post above occurs under the following conditions on Brave :

- Bug does not occur (reply box clears properly) if (1) you post your reply while freshly reloaded on the last page of the thread and (2) there are no "messages have been posted message" pending

- Bug does occur on other pages of the thread if the "messages have been posted" notification occurs

- Most strangely, bug occurs as follows: even if I load the last page of the thread, then go to the second to last page and reload that, then submit my reply on the second to last page, the moment I submit my reply a "messages have been posted" notification instantly pops up (even though there have been no messages posted).

In this condition where I hit reply on the second to last page of a thread, as soon as it goes through, it shows the last few posts from (for example) 15 mins ago, even though I have already seen them (and there is no new unseen thread activity) . It's like hitting reply incorrectly triggers the "messages have been posted" notification (and also fails to clear the reply box)

Hope this helps

"even though there have been no messages posted" is based on both what page you're on and on actual new posts if you're on the last page, which is consistent to old behavior.
