Let's Sperg Marathon 2025 - Bungie's new AAAA Extraction shooter

To tie it into Marathon even slightly you could be salvaging the ruins of a failed colony that was attacked by <enemy>.
To be fair that is literally how they tied it in. The fortnite fashion brigade are supposed to scavenging Tau Ceti IV after it got nuked by the Pfhor.
I've already expressed pretty much all of my opinions regarding this mismanaged abortion in the main Marathon thread, but here's my two cents crossposted here:
Really what they should've done was remake Halo. Arena shooter with two teams. On one team: body-surfing Runner mercenaries constantly being killed and shat out in new 3d-printed bodies with a copy of their consciousness grafted onto it. On the other: barely-sentient Pfhor warriors being commanded by a higher caste intelligence, similarly expendable. Do this and you can still have a framing device to explore pretentious themes about identity and free will while also being a game that potentially doesn't suck ass. Or you know. You could just make Apex but even shittier.
I know I'm sort of 'tisming out about this, but I really hate wasted potential.
I think it was supposed to be for the Tarkov crowd at one point only with a bigger focus on cyberpunk aesthetics than obsessive milsim realism, but it's obvious somewhere along the line that they decided they wanted some of them Apex bux. Only they never fully transitioned from their original concept to a more accessible style and now the game, much like its developers, is undergoing an identity crisis.
It is LITERALLY a tranny game.

Well if a concord dev says this, you know the game is gonna be shit.
Really, I think Concord saying shit about the them in any supporting fashion is just CAUSTIC to reputation. Which makes me wonder why Forbes spread it?

Like not to politisperg but it reminds me of a skit from Saturday night live over a decade ago when they made a skit about McCain getting an endorsement from bush, and how it probably hurt his reputation, with bush giving GLOWING recommendations and saying that McCain will be just like him but 4 more years. The skit itself isn't too important, but it was a clear situation where 1 party wanted the other party nowhere near them, or at least not mentioning them, and the endorsement ACTIVELY HURT them.

I feel this same principle applies, and anyone who is savvy wouldn't want Concord and marathon in the same sentence IF you are promoting marathon so.... Is everyone involved in this just a fucking retard??? Or maybe Forbes promoting it is just pouring More gas on the fire?

I have no idea why, but I can't directly reply or quote @FieldPiece so I'm going to reply in this retarded fashion and sperg the fuck out because I'm tired of people sucking off Jones...

I think Bungies honestly just fucked. Bungie has kinda always been making the same game over and over but with a different world and atmosphere. Marathon was basically sci-fi Pathways Into Darkness. Then Halo was supposed to sci-fi Myth but eventually became basically a reboot of Marathon with all the same Bungie hallmarks. Crazy AIs, mutliracial alien group bent on Humanitys death, Martian revolt against a one world government, slight horror vibes, theological and myth inspired names. Now what are they doing? Just rebooting an old thing straight up instead of making a new world, why? Probably because all the people who made those worlds are gone. Joe Staten ain't around to build up a world from the ground up, neither is Greg Kirkpatrick or Eric Nylund.

The source of all this retardation is Jason Jones and his obsessive Elric fangirling. The MO is always the same, he gets an idea and creates a kernel of the game and the world it inhabits. He works with people like Greg, Eryk and Joe to develop it better. They flesh it out in a way he alone can't, sometimes disagrees, pushes back, throws a fit, comes back, but eventually gets bored and leaves definitively.

In some cases, he actively sabotages what was developed, I don't know if out of spite because he alone can't do it, or if it's because he didn't get his way. There were several extreme changes to Halo's story during development where he had to be overridden by the rest of the team. By Halo 2 he was throwing hissy fits and just abandoned the team while they were rushing to finish the game. He wanted nothing to do with Halo 3, ODST and Reach. By this time, he had moved on to the next thing, Destiny, as teased in ODST and Reach.

But the clearest example of this was the Destiny 2013 story reboot. It was never made clear what really happened, who was unsatisfied with it, and who made the decision. It's always been kept vague intentionally. The fact Acti was their publisher at the time helps to do this, they use it to deflect and never directly say it because it was not Acti's doing. Yet we know what the fallout was. Joe Staten and several others who had joined Jones in developing Destiny after they had finished work on the Halo franchise ended up leaving Bungie as a result. Jones surrounded himself with newcomers and yes-men like Luke Smith. Shortly after they kicked Marty out, after having failed to make him quit like what happened with Staten and as was intended by the internal campaign against him.

Yet, Jones once again got bored and by the time Destiny released in 2014 it's clear he was no longer developing the game and story. Why? Because the next 3 years were spent dripping out the original campaign's content slightly reworked. We know this. Even as far as 7-8 years later reworked story threads from the original pre-reboot campaign were being drip fed to the community, like Crow and Rasputin in an exo shell.

People focus on Pete Parsons because he's an easy target, and he does himself no favors. He also doesn't give a shit, as long as he gets paid. But to me it's obvious he's Jones' front man, the meat shield for all the criticism that should be rightfully leveled at Jones. According to people like Marty, Jones threatened to leave Bungie when they were looking at Parsons to be studio manager after Alex left. He supposedly had to be convinced to stay. Also, according to this they would only take Parsons if everyone agreed, and apparently Jones was the most vehement voice against him. Looking back at Jones' behavior throughout the years, I can't help but feel that his opposition was a calculated move by Jones and Parsons to manipulate everyone else into accepting Parsons.

Why, you ask? I mean, if he's so detrimental to the creativity of the studio, how come they've kicked or made so many others quit who were much more valuable to the studio, but still retained Parsons, long before he became CEO? Why not do everything they could to keep Alex, who everyone liked and was good at his job, but got tired of tard wrangling Jones since founding the company? Who out of all the OGs still remains at the company after almost 40 years and has benefited every time the studio has been sold or bought? Only one, Jones, and he's untouchable.

So yes, Bungie is fucked, because it's a reflection of its remaining founder. A flaky, untrustworthy little shit high on his own farts, whose greatest ideas are but mere recycling of better works, vastly improved upon by others and not him. Who managed to trick millions into believing he can do no wrong, and uses a soulless corpo suit to do all his underhanded shit.

I'll take those hats now...

if they wanted to reboot Marathon and be a two-game studio it really should have been either a Single-player shooter or just a normal multiplayer shooter
I agree, but that's never going to happen in current year. Got to have androgenous characters, non-offensive/safe edgy aesthetic and themes, micro transactions, modern copy-paste AAA design, and to top it off it would be made by talentless hacks who got the job via "connections" that in no way involves sucking dick and having the right political opinions.

Everyone involved is a fucking retard.

Or more specifically, they live in a bubble of "toxic positivity". There have been a bunch of stories in game dev and hollywood about it. You publicly say how great it is or you're out. So they get completely blindsided by "sure things" like Concord and Star Wars Outlaws bombing.

This also explains why they keep saying "we're only human" and "we worked hard on it guise! You owe us your monies!", while simultiously talking about how much they hate gamers, how they're all neo nazi alt right chuds who won't have any games to play. This is likely the standard in their echo chamber and as soon as something is shown outside of it, they are shocked at the poor reaction.

People focus on Pete Parsons because he's an easy target
I'll take your word for it. People used to blame Activision for every failing, but that wasn't the case. I got shit back when the Activision deal fell through for saying it won't make the game better. Activision gave Bungie a lot of leeway and freedom, renegotiating their contract multiple times when they didn't have to. So after the split, when things didn't get better, I got to say "I told you so", but no one cared and the next cope was on the cards.

you can still have microtransactions in a normal multiplayer shooter, Halo and Call of Duty still have that, its moreso the one-life bullshit I find annoying

Just looks like Death Stranding for trannies. At least the dev crying on Reddit gave me a laugh.

I really can't fathom why they bothered to call it Marathon, rather than create a new IP. I mean it's Bungie, you've got the prestige of Halo, and everyone knows about Destiny, whether they've played it or not. It's either stupidity in thinking the Marathon name will help sales because of a Mandalore video, or it's current year/tranny spite that nothing people enjoy can ever go unruined.

I watched the gameplay trailer and my first reaction was how much the game reminded me of Brink. Is what they showed in the trailer all there is? Just one game mode? And they're charging money for it when Destiny 2 is free and already has tonnes of content, and game modes, with more if you want to open your wallet?

I found this interview with a Marathon dev where he desperately tries to justify charging money for Marathon. A lot of the quotes are great, but I really liked this one:
“We’re hoping that what we’re showing is exciting enough that someone is going to take the leap with us, but we are also committed to delivering on seasons past this that will continuously offer to evolve the game without an increase to the box price,”
"Pay us upfront and we promise we'll add the content later!" I fell for this with Destiny 2, and the game I originally paid for doesn't even exist any more as far as I could find when I went back to play it years later.

I thought the cinematic trailer was kinda cool. Problem is it then cut to the gameplay which was just a generic PVP FPS with neon colors, with absolutely nothing setting it apart.

I sense all of Bungie's fuckery post-Halo is coming home to roost. So much of Destiny's potential was squandered for no reason other than Bungie's arrogance and incompetence. They treated their players like cattle and didn't give a shit about feedback. Only their "vision" mattered. They treated some of their best employees as if they were completely disposable and didn't matter at all. The constant internal reboots, ridiculous lore retcons, mass layoffs, etc. It was all gonna implode at some point.

Also the Concord connections aren't helping at all and that one bitch dev crying about it on reddit is just fanning the flames. I could see Marathon having big numbers on day 1 but having a collapse shortly after. What they should have done was model it after the Doom reboot, IE have an actual campaign in addition to the multiplayer. As it is Marathon feels like just another game mode that could've just been thrown into D2.

Extraction shooters are BR games that are slower with extra steps. It stems from the origins of BR being basically built on Arma.

Speaking as an extraction shooter guy or an FPS slop guy in general the entire genre is actually kind of garbage. Devs are chasing viewer base not player base its been always viewed that these extraction shooter games DO NOT reach the highs battle royales did. However, the sheer amount of viewerbase for extraction shooters is immense. Tarkov, and Hunt are the only two supported still. However, their player numbers are lower than you think. Call of Duty had an extraction (that was good) however the issue is its extraction mode had no meta game or inventory/economy so people just kinda treated it like BR with extra steps and Hunt still has a PVP focus with minor extraction elements. The extraction genre is not made for normie mass appeal the game would be a bigger success if it was a BR unironically. Extraction shooters are extremely unforgiving and include some of the most bullshit quest objectives in any FPS game ever combined with the fact we are unsure if bungie will include seasonal wipes (think if all the things you built up to in one season is reset in the next to keep things "fair) Tarkov slowly turns into a second job becasue of this.

On top of the fact Tarkov when it look in you think it operates like a milsim when you can basically survive up to 10 shots becasue the latency is shit, and Armor protection is basically RNG half the time

Another hack destined to fail upwards.
They do seem to have all failed upwards.
Concord's character designer (that very jewish guy) is the lead character designer at Blizzard, the director of marketing is now at a similar position at 343/Halo Studios.

Remember this is the only company in the industry that has a commitment to avoiding "overdelivery" to where they've alienated their core audience and drove them to indifference with the sheer neglect of their cashcow franchise. This "gambit 2.0" title is not worth caring about.
That fucking GDC talk... Basically "make them think something big will happen, deliver nothing".

I still cannot believe Sony bought Bungie for 3.6 Billion dollars and this is what they get in return, if that wasn't the biggest scam in the history of the video game industry I don't know what is.
They bought bungie to help guide all the other live service games to success too, so it's no surprise to see the concord people talking it up
Probably after this fails they'll both go on to talk about how Fairgame$ deserves a look and not to write off literally the exact same game with like 2% different style where they increase the nigger slider over the troon slider

I hope in years to come we get leaks that details everything that happened with the takeover of playstation and how they spent tens of billions making more or less the same game 15 times, all with top jobs for friends within the same cliques

Every time modern bungie makes a pvevp mode in their games everyone hates it and it flops, now they want to make a full game on the premise and charge for it. What the -Blam!- are they thinking?
Gambit was fucking great and everyone that hated it was just bad at the pvp aspect. Invading and clapping a full team with a meme loadout was so much fun. I think if they properly make the pve flow in to the pvp it can work. We won't really know for sure until the game actually comes out but I'm keeping my expectations low since nu-bungie is dogshit. From what I've seen the pve seems way too separated from the pvp.
