I have no idea why, but I can't directly reply or quote
@FieldPiece so I'm going to reply in this retarded fashion and sperg the fuck out because I'm tired of people sucking off Jones...
I think Bungies honestly just fucked. Bungie has kinda always been making the same game over and over but with a different world and atmosphere. Marathon was basically sci-fi Pathways Into Darkness. Then Halo was supposed to sci-fi Myth but eventually became basically a reboot of Marathon with all the same Bungie hallmarks. Crazy AIs, mutliracial alien group bent on Humanitys death, Martian revolt against a one world government, slight horror vibes, theological and myth inspired names. Now what are they doing? Just rebooting an old thing straight up instead of making a new world, why? Probably because all the people who made those worlds are gone. Joe Staten ain't around to build up a world from the ground up, neither is Greg Kirkpatrick or Eric Nylund.
The source of all this retardation is Jason Jones and his obsessive Elric fangirling. The MO is always the same, he gets an idea and creates a kernel of the game and the world it inhabits. He works with people like Greg, Eryk and Joe to develop it better. They flesh it out in a way he alone can't, sometimes disagrees, pushes back, throws a fit, comes back, but eventually gets bored and leaves definitively.
In some cases, he actively sabotages what was developed, I don't know if out of spite because he alone can't do it, or if it's because he didn't get his way. There were several extreme changes to Halo's story during development where he had to be overridden by the rest of the team. By Halo 2 he was throwing hissy fits and just abandoned the team while they were rushing to finish the game. He wanted nothing to do with Halo 3, ODST and Reach. By this time, he had moved on to the next thing, Destiny, as teased in ODST and Reach.
But the clearest example of this was the Destiny 2013 story reboot. It was never made clear what really happened, who was unsatisfied with it, and who made the decision. It's always been kept vague intentionally. The fact Acti was their publisher at the time helps to do this, they use it to deflect and never directly say it because it was not Acti's doing. Yet we know what the fallout was. Joe Staten and several others who had joined Jones in developing Destiny after they had finished work on the Halo franchise ended up leaving Bungie as a result. Jones surrounded himself with newcomers and yes-men like Luke Smith. Shortly after they kicked Marty out, after having failed to make him quit like what happened with Staten and as was intended by the internal campaign against him.
Yet, Jones once again got bored and by the time Destiny released in 2014 it's clear he was no longer developing the game and story. Why? Because the next 3 years were spent dripping out the original campaign's content slightly reworked. We know this. Even as far as 7-8 years later reworked story threads from the original pre-reboot campaign were being drip fed to the community, like Crow and Rasputin in an exo shell.
People focus on Pete Parsons because he's an easy target, and he does himself no favors. He also doesn't give a shit, as long as he gets paid. But to me it's obvious he's Jones' front man, the meat shield for all the criticism that should be rightfully leveled at Jones. According to people like Marty, Jones threatened to leave Bungie when they were looking at Parsons to be studio manager after Alex left. He supposedly had to be convinced to stay. Also, according to this they would only take Parsons if everyone agreed, and apparently Jones was the most vehement voice against him. Looking back at Jones' behavior throughout the years, I can't help but feel that his opposition was a calculated move by Jones and Parsons to manipulate everyone else into accepting Parsons.
Why, you ask? I mean, if he's so detrimental to the creativity of the studio, how come they've kicked or made so many others quit who were much more valuable to the studio, but still retained Parsons, long before he became CEO? Why not do everything they could to keep Alex, who everyone liked and was good at his job, but got tired of tard wrangling Jones since founding the company? Who out of all the OGs still remains at the company after almost 40 years and has benefited every time the studio has been sold or bought? Only one, Jones, and he's untouchable.
So yes, Bungie is fucked, because it's a reflection of its remaining founder. A flaky, untrustworthy little shit high on his own farts, whose greatest ideas are but mere recycling of better works, vastly improved upon by others and not him. Who managed to trick millions into believing he can do no wrong, and uses a soulless corpo suit to do all his underhanded shit.
I'll take those hats now...
