I hate to pander about it so much but, it's not just his life being destroyed. I don't suppose his wife and kid love this situation he can only blame himself for, imagine your Dad being the guy that lost a lawsuit to some vidya boogeyman.

As discussed earlier in this thread, the "man behind the curtain" of all of Karl's suffering appears to be ersatz_cats. It looks a hell of a lot like (a) he's the one who pro-actively told Karl Jobst that Billy Mitchell bankrupted Apollo Legend, and (b) encouraged him to push that lie.

Well, I think if Karl can seek help from the Von Habsburgs, maybe he can gain more knowledge about Austrian laws, but I don't know how it helps him having that information considering that the lawsuit is in AUSTRALIA.

With the video being out for awhile, I don't think it's going to ultimately kill his channel in the end. He has enough dents in his comments of this video fighting with everyone, plus most of the top voted comments aren't even all that critical of him, and are just meme-ing or generic nothing-burger normie remarks that could apply to anyone. All that, plus it's not ratio'ed like his community post was.

I now think he will indeed have those "detractor" comments for awhile, but they will start to die off over time.

It's truly disgusting what he did, but aside from now having a massive judgement/debt on him, I think that's it.

The lawyer wanted $200k more, but Karl wouldn't pay him. I would not expect any kind of payment after that going forward.

Karl wishes he had been sued over the cheating allegations instead, since that didn't happen, he made it about cheating on his defense, which was totally irrelevant to the judge, and a really stupid strategy.
He's clearly misleading people, even in his gofundme:

Last year, Billy Mitchell, star of The King of Kong and proven video game cheater, sued me for defamation claiming damages of $450,000. In the past year alone, this lawsuit has cost almost $200,000 to defend, and will cost at least another $100,000 before it's over.

Maybe I'm a complete idiot and I don't know how to read, but in what world this doesn't mean that Billy sued him twice?
There's a difference between a lawsuit and a letter of concern, I'm sure Karl knows the difference, so he was certainly being sketchy on the way he was asking for money, specially since he doesn't mention Apollo once on it either.
I'm sure in his mind he couldn't conceive the scenario where he lost the lawsuit so this would have been just a case of "the ends justify the means" to him. Now that he lost, he is shifting the narrative to: "everyone knew there was only one lawsuit and the gofoundme was just in case the other lawsuits materialized".
I have no doubt he is scummy as fuck and everything he says has to be taken with a bag of salt.
If he truly believes what he said in the video, that the gofundme was just in case he got sued again, then he should refund the donations as they weren't used to defend lawsuits revolving around cheating.

Ah, this is fun one, a VERY non-obvious problem:
while it certainly would be key to the strongest defense, the truth of the matter is NOT actually a foolproof defense to defamation. The idea of the tort is that you maliciously or recklessly cause damage to someone's reputation that you shouldn't have. A common theoretical example is.... let's say it's a gay person who you know is gay, but has been keeping it secret, and he is the sort of person who if it came out that he is gay it would ruin his life.
I'm not sure if this one has ever actually played out in court (anyone know?), but such a "this person is gay" claim could actually constitute defamation, despite being true.

(I can't imagine TRYING to actually argue that one, but the theory is certainly there.)

His entire case basically relied on the pretense that some random Australian judge in his 70s gives a fuck about Donkey Kong scores.

Will he make a separate video for his Discord meltdowns? Let's see what we have here...

-Too scared to record this on camera - he wants to hide the lying body language.
-Too scared to record it in one take, so we get a heavily edited, rehearsed response.
-Unable to deliver the response on his own scheduled time, because he panicked and didn’t know how to respond. So, it took him longer than expected to come up with this manipulative video.
-Continues to be dishonest, claiming he wanted the retraction to get as much attention as possible - yet he buries it at the end of a 30-minute video that’s completely unrelated to the case or Mitchell. Instead of putting it at the start, or creating a dedicated video for the retraction, he hides it.
-Uses the most cliché excuse after the fact: “Oh, I didn’t want to say anything because I thought it would be detrimental to the case.” No, buddy, by simply saying, “Billy’s claim is about Apollo Legend, because of a mistake in one of my videos” wouldn’t have hurt the case in any way. In fact, it might've helped him at end, by reducing the damages. No one was asking for a detailed breakdown of the real claim, because no one knew about it, and Karl was very much aware of the fact. He chose to keep his fans in the dark.
-His response in a nutshell is "well, i was afraid to talk about what the case is really about, so i don't endager my defense, but i still decided talk about the case anyway, because keeping my mouth shut is not in my nature". So he just unintentionally admitted that he mislead everyone... he just thought that was never going to be an issue, until it became an issue.

I don’t see how any judge could sympathize with Karl after all the videos he’s made—five years of insulting Mitchell, calling him a conman, a fraud, a liar, an insane person, etc. And for what? Cheating in a 40-year-old arcade game?
He told a lie and then “admitted and corrected” himself in a camouflaged retraction. That was mistake number one in the eyes of the judge. Mistake number two was that he never apologized for it. That ultimately led to the judge siding with Mitchell. The judge saw through his ego and malicious intent and didn’t believe the retraction was made in good faith, and Karl, being the egocentric narcissist that he is, still can't comprehend that. What judge on Earth is going to listen to him on the appeal? He’s finished!

It was also very satisfying to see Karl finally shit himself and announcing that he's going back to making speedrunning videos... I guess there'll be no more Completionists, Car Battery Companies, and "Biggest Conmen" type videos. He bit more than he can chew and he choked on it. So much for Karl "The Investigative Journalist" Jobst.
