As discussed earlier in this thread, the "man behind the curtain" of all of Karl's suffering appears to be ersatz_cats. It looks a hell of a lot like (a) he's the one who pro-actively told Karl Jobst that Billy Mitchell bankrupted Apollo Legend, and (b) encouraged him to push that lie.

Karl cites four screens of sources for his assertation that Apollo Legend was forced to pay Billy money.

The first screen is ersatz_cats.



The second screen is an anonymous source and Carlos (Pineiro?). The anonymous source actually praises Billy for his fairness, but Karl was desperate to defame him anyway.



The third screen is Reddit user "rickeybm", ersatz_cats (more prominently displayed than the others), and Reddit user "mio456". This ersatz quote is different from the previous one. "Rickey's" is the name of Billy's hot sauce, the name is not usually spelled with an "e" so this could be an account dedicated solely to talking shit about the King of Kong. Who do we know that likes to steal Billy's identities and use them to harass Billy? That's right, ersatz_cats. So, ersatz could actually be posting under the "rickeybm" name and his own name. I checked on Reddit, and rickeybm is now deleted. The third user, mio456, genuinely seems to just be some fucking nobody shitposting.



The fourth screen is the same quote from mio456 as on the previous screen. The fact that this quote is repeated twice shows how thin the "evidence" Karl had for this claim was.



This quote from mio456 was the only one cited as a source in the lawsuit. Karl didn't mention ersatz_cats, his anonymous source, or rickeybm in his own defence. Carlos Pineiro was a witness for the defence but had no knowledge on this.

So, why the focus and credibility given to mio456? Simply because Karl had nobody else. He didn't want to throw ersatz or Carlos under the bus. All the people laughing at Karl for believing this one Reddit troll mio456 were justified. All Karl's claims about having other sources were thin to the point of nonexistence.

I feel like with the prominence of the ersatz quotes in the video today, that Karl might actually be turning on Walter. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but Karl must see through this freak by now.

Also, ersatz may be turning on Karl due to this video. The Discord after the video was released was buzzing and ersatz was there... laughing at Karl detractor memes?

Ah, this is fun one, a VERY non-obvious problem:
while it certainly would be key to the strongest defense, the truth of the matter is NOT actually a foolproof defense to defamation. The idea of the tort is that you maliciously or recklessly cause damage to someone's reputation that you shouldn't have. A common theoretical example is.... let's say it's a gay person who you know is gay, but has been keeping it secret, and he is the sort of person who if it came out that he is gay it would ruin his life.
I'm not sure if this one has ever actually played out in court (anyone know?), but such a "this person is gay" claim could actually constitute defamation, despite being true.

(I can't imagine TRYING to actually argue that one, but the theory is certainly there.)

That's pretty much exactly what happened to Peter Thiel, and if that was an actionable defamation case he definitely would have filed suit but he didn't.

If this is the case, then he must have lied. Full stop. He'd already paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to lawyers, but had no idea whether or not he could have additional lawsuits brought against him? Not a chance. It seems that he lied and then leveraged that lie to get people to give him money.

Another thing I'm willing to accept is Karl either didn't listen, or didn't want to burn man hours having his lawyers (with an "s" at the end) explain shit clearly to him. I'm in the USA, I like to think I understand how the law works; but if I found myself in trouble where I need to get an Esquire or whatever; I'd be willing to pay for a few man hours to get shit explained clearly, if even in writing for me. I'd like to think I'd do the same thing if I was in Australia or another semi-functional country; especially, if I was going to go public, monetize, and ask for help taking a bully down. And I say this, because I realize that when it comes to fine details, there's the commoner aspect of it, where certain words and things get used interchangeably, and then there's the professional aspect of it, where specific words mean specific things and it's your job to not fuck that up. So even with my most generous interpretation, if at all, Karl used commoner understandings (and probably lied) to make things look one way, because he wasn't down to cut that fine line and differentiate between two things that similar and related, yet also different. Whether he did so intentionally (see: maliciously) or not is up for debate, and even at my most generous, I'm only gonna go 50/50; because he rarely, if ever, addressed the Apollo stuff, making it sound like it was about the cheating. And at my most serious, I just want to ask if Karl was lying then or was he lying now... but I'm sure Karl would try to cut a line of "I didn't lie, I just didn't say..." then try some mental gymnastics of withholding information or talking about something completely different isn't lying.

He's now deleting comments of anyone being even slightly critical of him, to my knowledge he wasn't actually deleting them before this but now I've witnessed several comments including some incredibly mild that showed up and were deleted 30 seconds later, isn't this something he criticized Jirrad of doing?

I thought everyone knew this, but in case anyone doesn't, YT's algos do this ALL the fucking time, even to incredibly innocuous posts. They'll show up and be gone in 30 seconds, yes.
Some of them will have been filtered into a "likely spam" section in which he could manually go through them and approve, but virtually no video uploader would ever bother to.
A lot of them never even make it there, but just vanish into oblivion.

I doubt he could manage the number of comments anyway. I heavily doubt he is doing anything to the comments.

Although, MAYBE a few big critical comments that get a lot of attention someone might find and nuke, and then blame it on exactly that algo, pretending they didn't delete it: that is always a problem.
But YT's algo baleeting the comments isn't just a known problem, it's common, so common it's essentially the norm. YT is the worst platform ever for random, senseless censorship.

There’s a chance that this kid grows up poor, with his parents in massive debt and possibly divorced because of his dad’s retarded LOLsuits.

With the video being out for awhile, I don't think he's going to ultimately kill his channel on the end. He has enough dents in his comments of this video fighting with everyone, plus most of the top voted comments aren't even all that critical of him, and are just meme-ing or generic nothing-burger normie remarks that could apply to anyone. All that, plus it's not ratio'ed like his community post was.

I now think he will indeed have those "detractor" comments for awhile, but they will start to die off over time.

It's truly disgusting what he did, but aside from now having a massive judgement/debt on him, I think that's it.

He's also sweeping comments though. None of my posts have been showing up on his channel for awhile.

the bullshit I think his audience would have bought would be sorrowful apology. cry some crocodile tears while saying how you made a mistake, you always wanted to do the right thing, repeat everything the judge and actually sound sincere in apologizing to billy mitchell.
