It's a beast. We barely utilize it. The biggest bottleneck we have is I/O. We have a huge SSD array for long term storage but one of our drives died and so MySQL is sitting on the raid. We desperately need to get another NVMe for the Database. I'm so desperate for I/O that I actually allocate some of the spare RAM into a ramdisk and use it to cache files.

I'm like 90% certain that this server by itself could host 4chan if I got to use Cloudflare and if I could reconfigure my disks.

Google is kill, has been since 2016. It's currently in the state 4chan was in before the hack. Rife with unmaintained shit. The trannies are running rampant, and the trannies like Rust because they were told to at some point

That's nuts. Not only that you even need that much hardware (I'm no one, so I can't really imagine attracting that many people to a web project), but that random people would pay for it.

For a second I thought you might just make mad bank in your private life, but I won't ask about that.

The ephemeral nature of the site makes it so that storage isn't really a big issue. At most 4chan has maybe 2-4TB of images and webm stored at a time and from I've seen in these threads the databases for everything combined are under 1TB or so. The hardware costs are probably higher than they should be when it comes to CPU/Memory because the software stack is so fucking ancient that it probably doesn't account for caching and is probably handling each and every request from the DB rather than cache.

This hack could end up being a benefit for 4chan as a whole operationally because its forcing them to abandon early 2000s software with bandaids on it to something more efficient. No matter how this resolves itself 4chan WILL have to abandon the software as it stands, either an almost full rewrite or adoption of existing image board projects.
