Shoplifting Tumblrinas

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I stole make up as a teenager because it's much easier to steal than drugs and I wanted both on a limited budget.

It was nothing to do with being a troon. I was just a thieving little cunt.

Being 'trans' is an excuse for everything on tumblr. Everything.

apparently we are all transphobic because we are against theft. A FUCKING CRIME.

Okay, two things:

1. I can't speak for the entire country, but even in the part of the south that I live in, nobody will say shit to you if you're trans and buying makeup. I see guys all the time working at Ulta, Sephora, the MAC counter, etc wearing more makeup than I've ever worn in my life, you'll be alright. And if you can't afford the shit at Sephora, buy drugstore, there's no shame in it.

2. That's not true. You can absolutely be punished for loss prevention failure. Which you can do nothing about, in a lot of cases, because someone could grab stuff while looking you straight in the eye and walk casually out of the store, and you can't say shit to them. And they know it.

1: citations needed
2: it absolutely hurts workers. The company pay I used to work for would cut payroll when theft got above a certain percentage. For my location, that was .30% on an average monthly budget. If it got too high, an LP manager would come out and replace or supplement the manager on high theft shifts. Usually the latter happened, which in turn slashed all of our hours to make room for another manager, and often led to firings if an employee was found to be at fault.

I can say with satisfaction, though, that my manager and my local police turned a blind eye to any injuries suffered by shoplifters. A guy I chased that tripped and broke his nose was booked as having a pre existing injury, and no security cameras saw the chase.

...
Agreed. You see, here in the South, we have a concept called "minding your own business." It's something the Yankees don't seem to understand. You can disagree with someone in private, but you don't mention whatever the topic is unless they confront you about it because it's none of your business. I see dudes in makeup at our makeup stores too- I don't think it's very flattering on them, but we're just as polite to them as to the other people there. It's the Southern way. We don't busybody. :)

I speculate that perhaps because the South is so military, and therefore has a better cultural understanding of authority- that is, that it's not your place to scold someone or boss them around unless you're their commanding officer- perhaps that's why we have so little public complaining. I could be wrong; who knows. The specter of people beating up guys for wearing makeup doesn't exist outside of hotel rooms and frat parties, AFAIK.

yea... but you guys have a big reputation for racism, so idk how well your finger pointing is going.
Undeservedly. Every black I've known says it's worse up North. We had a lot of students from up there. As long as you don't act like a thug, you're basically cool. They don't like white thugs either.

I had a friend from the midwest who told me where she came from, at most (if there was a guy working in cosmetics at all), they'd wear foundation and a little eyeliner or eyeshadow. Not because they'd get beat up, but because it upset the more conservative customers. But here, guys walk around in full Instagram face, dresses, etc and nobody really bothers them.

Back on topic, I saw a post reblogged by the lovely dangerbooze on Tumblr that is a very detailed list of stores and their level of difficulty to steal from. Archive here. A lot of the notes are these children justifying stealing shit, just like always.

A thread I ran across and screencapped:

These spoiled little assholes even point out that they know other people work to afford that shit, and they still fucking steal it because they think they deserve it for some reason.

I'm almost willing to give a pass to someone stealing food, because at least that's a necessity. But nobody fucking needs $200 jeans or $75 face cream or $30 socks.

Part of the way they can get away with it is how corporation prevents retail stores from doing anything to shoplifters, so much so that LPs who even try to defend themselves with lethal force can be "asked to resign" (this is definitely true at Walmart).

If there were loss prevention officers could use, say, nightsticks with impunity (even including minors), there would be far fewer shoplifting Tumblrinas.

Are lifters making some sort of a comeback recently? I've noticed this thread moving up, and I heard from someone that the "community" is gaining popularity. Think there's any way to humiliate them back into hiding?

I think if you just started doxing a few of them it would scare the rest into hiding, so let them get complacent while collecting info from the low-hanging fruit and maybe a couple big targets it would really be fun to take down, and as soon as you have a critical mass, nuke the fuckers with a mass doxing.

lifted gift cards

Lifted gift cards? Don't they have to be activated at the register, as a countermeasure to shoplifting? Are there places that actually don't activate the gift cards at the register?

Also, how is this still a thing? I thought it died out when Jim/IA started doing those Tumblrisms videos, and people started becoming aware of the idiocy of Tumblr.

That scared off the ones who didn't have semi-decent opsec about what they posted, but apparently, there's a new generation of dumbfucks.

Here's to hoping guilt-tripping will work. Although I doubt it.

I'm normally fervently against doxxing, but in this case, we're doxxing criminals.
(Spoken like a truly sanctimonious douchebag...)

Here's a good start. There's even more in the "More You May Like" area, with a rather humorous conversation between a shoplifter and a "goddamn anti-lifter".
