Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Does anybody know which blu-ray transfers for old anime are sourced directly from film? For example, the Outlaw Star transfer looks amazing and it doesn’t use those shitty upscale techniques that make everything look blurry.
there is no database i know of. but some remasters are using the good upscaling he-man used.

there is a good way of remastering, but its done by some tiny german company and its expensiv

I'm finally starting Slayers. I have the complete tv series, the films, and the OVAs. But do I start with the TV series or the films first? I always thought the Naga team ups was Lina's origin and then it leads to the TV show but I'm probably wrong. Its confusing.
the Slayers Special ova came before the Slayers Excellent OVA
I'd watch the tv series first but it doesn't matter really
the original source material is a light novel series for this one, not a manga

Recently, I've been looking for an old anime film about an alien planet whose inhabitants are slowly being wiped out by a supercomputer masquerading as their god. The main protagonist is the prince of the kingdom, who later discovers that he and his twin sister, who was separated from him, are destined to fight this supercomputer and free their world. The twist is that in the end the prophecy turns out to be a dud, and the prince and his sister escape their now dead world after the supercomputer has completely wiped out all life, and they both land on a certain blue planet filled with nothing but water. They crash into the water and decay over the eons, their remains providing the bacteria needed to bring life to the lifeless planet and restart the human race.

I got into anime one summer and I'd watch that shit in bed every night and feel genuine emotions. It was magical. It sounds like everyone has this kind of experience, but since then I've just been unable to watch any of it, knowing it's subpar marketing slop for a much better manga. I do however appreciate non-manga based one-off movies still, but they're so far and few between.

Has any anime popped up recently that fit that "endless summer" vibe?

munou no nana too :(

at least we got a biscuit hammer anime, even if it was super low budget

Thunderbolt Fantasy is peak but I haven't watched the latest season yet
Same here, I'm currently watching the last season hoping it will not disappoint, but I don't know how they can do better than the autistic monk, he was peak

Can't believe Munou No Nana is still on going, I'm like 40 chapters behind...

I think last season was a bit of a letdown. It is still good, but was jut too much going on. They should have made two seasons out of it. I still need to watch the movie to be done with the series.

when Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within came out
I have that on blu ray I got for like 3 bucks. Dumb ass story. But for its time the CGIA animation was actually pretty good. And it actually had a few big name VA's in it. Alec Baldwin tho as the main bad guy makes me laugh considering the Rust shooting.
