I fished watching Trigun (1998) today. I thought it was good. The dub is really top notch for being made in the early 2000s and it dosent hold back on the shows more adult themes. Normally, i dont like the moral characters that are against killing no matter what but the show did a good job show casing Vash reasonings against killing (violence in general) and you can understand and sometime even sympathies when it bites him in the ass. his design is also cool, bringing out that 90s edge with the red coat, the glasses, the spiky hair and the white colt 45.

Would not surprise me if the artists of Devil May Cry one got inspiration from this design.

The soundtrack has this has this rough sound that sets the tone of cretin scenes and i love how sometimes it just cuts off all of the sound at some points.




Overall, great show. now time to watch some Devil May Cry

I think you'll enjoy it well enough if you've enjoyed the games. Admittedly it can feel a bit dull at times and I remembered the action being a bit stiff, but Dante is not obnoxiously written compared to what I've seen from the new show. Still, it's a bit of a guilty pleasure and short so it doesn't overstay its welcome.

The most enjoyable part was Trish and Lady meeting for the first time.

Maybe Josh is right about China because To Be Hero X is probably going to be the best looking anime this year, I'd go as far as to say of all time if the quality remains consistent. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't checked it out yet, I love Xi Jinping now btw.

Does anybody know which blu-ray transfers for old anime are sourced directly from film? For example, the Outlaw Star transfer looks amazing and it doesn’t use those shitty upscale techniques that make everything look blurry.

I'm assuming you're referring to the Discotek Blu-Ray? They're one of the few companies I'm aware of that really put a lot of care into their releases, albeit I've only ever bought a handful of DVDs/Blurays from them.

I think GKIDS is another company that also puts in a similar amount of effort but I haven't bought anything from them, but they've handled a lot of recent anime theatrical releases and announced an Angel's Egg restoration that I've been anticipating.

From my experience a lot of anime home releases have always been just *okay* with either mild cropping or video compression, but then you'll have shit like any of the Dragon Ball DVDs that have been notoriously dogshit.

No he is asking which series are remastered using the original footage and which are remastered using digital techniques. Older anime was made using animation cells on film.

It's important to remember Japan did not care about preserving old manga, anime, or video game source code.

I want to take this moment to point out that Joss Whedon ripped off Outlaw Star for Firefly and that it's an inferior version of Outlaw Star in every way.

Yeah I realized after the fact, my bad.
I was always under the impression that most of their releases in particular were sourced from the original film, or at least that's what I was lead to believe.

That's not even up for debate, DMC clearly stole borrowed from Trigun. Forget the red coat, think about the fucking brother feud, and how Vash spikes his hair. Think about how the brothers look human, but aren't truly - look at Vash/Knives' guns - literally Ebony and Ivory...

and finally, look at DMC's Devil Arms.... what does Trigun have? Angel Arms. DMC copies Trigun so hard they could have been sued lol. It isn't subtle.

There was meant to be one, but it got cancelled.

Then it had a mod on Half Life called Trigun: Permanent Vacation which is essentially dead, almost like it went on a permanent vacation.

Then someone just made the cancelled game as a Half Life mod, which was broken as fuck.

Edit: There's actually a Trigun table-top RPG called Trigun D20
