Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

I do a check of a nearby Ollie's every couple of months:

My store doesn't have Rose left but there's still plenty of Holdos, plus a smattering of all recent Black Series figures and a wide selection of simple toys based on that recent animated show - I can't even keep track of all the drek Disney spits out to it's ever-contracting audience.

This pilgrimage is my only way of appreciating Star Wars when all that's left is schadenfreude.
Ah yes, Ollies......the graveyard of Disney toys. Why pay full price when you can get the exact toy at heavily-discounted prices after a few months. I remember when Star Wars toys used to sell out its stock when Episode I came out. Now, you show a kid someone like Rey/Holdo/Finn from the bargain bin and they give you the "who the fuck is that" look.

I remember the late 90s and the storm of toys from the TPM era that came with the movie. I still have a few of those toys from that era as a memento. It was the golden age of Star Wars, those years between 1999-2005. That was classic Star Wars at its finest.

I just found out that there's SW Celebrations this week-end.

Did you see this Variety article (written by Abigail Lee) about Kelly Marie Tran calling Star Wars fans racists again?

Her career is so dead that she had to come out as queer.

What's everyone's predictions for the next series of Andor?
No aliens/non-humans again because the showrunner wants to be taken seriously.

It is interesting to think about KMT and the villain from Attack the Block. Clearly they think it is more important to play the race card to try and get hired by studios than it is to have popular support. Which would actually get them hired.

I guess that's a result of literally having zero star appeal. It is also interesting how they discuss their roles literally as token roles. The entitlement that should give them support over actually being good characters. Not blaming the horrible writing.

This.
It's hard to have non-humans show complex emotions to the audience.
Good if you want more than a toy commercial.

John Boyega is actually a decent actor, but he lost any right to whinge about racism when he agreed to play a bufoonish 19th century escaped slave caricature. He already was the star of Pacific Rim 2 and the standout actor in Attack the Block, so it desperation isn't an excuse.
As for Kelly, I liked the character of Rose, a mundane everyman swept up in a world of space wizards and planet destroyers, but didn't care either way for Kelly's acting. Scifi blockbuster nerds aren't really known for their hatred of Asian women, so I suspect the only hate she got was from other E. Asians for the implied relationship with an African man.

As for race done right, I liked Andor's contrast between the mostly Scottish looking Aldani highlanders and the racially diverse Imperials/Coresant people, visually showing the fringes compared to a cosmopolitan metropole.

They can use near-humans like Twi'leks, Chiss, Zeltrons, Pantorans, or Mirialans if they wanted to, in order to make it relatable to human audiences while still maintaining the alien air of Star Wars.

That makes perfect sense, since the city tends to attract a more diverse and educated lot, whereas the fringes are less diverse and less complicated. I found the Imperials trying to woo the pilgrims away with cheap booze and lodging to be rather realistic. Simple people require very basic needs in order to satisfy their urges or get them to abandon causes.

Most of the Rebels tended to be nobles, educated city-folk, or people that the Empire personally wronged. Otherwise, if the Rebels were made up of cheap hillbillies who haven't tasted wealth or luxury, the Empire could just leave buckets of food and cheap booze on the front lines, and the Rebels would desert en-masse, just so they can gorge themselves silly.

Star Wars just announced an unnecessary new animated series called Maul: Shadow Lord releasing next year. Like Ahsoka, while I like Maul, I'm kinda tired of seeing him, but if it was his early life as an Sith assassin, I wouldn't mind.
  • Take place after the Clone Wars.
  • Training a "new padawan" after having a vision she can help him seek revenge.
  • Rook Kast returns from Season 7 of TCW.
  • The fart deflated Inquisitor (Marrok) from the Ahsoka show returns after cameoing in Tales of the Empire and will fight Maul.

The episode for Asajj Ventress from the Tales of the Underworld will pick up right after Dark Disciple and explains how Ventress lives. A young Jedi, who Ventress protected from the Inquisitor, mentions The Path from the Kenobi show and mentioned Quinlan Vos to Ventress and The Path is created by Vos.

I disagree, Babylon 5 and Star Trek have shown that you can portray complex emotions under the prosthetics.

Even people who like this character should be sick of him by now
I'm fine with more Witwer kino. The only issue is the writing since it's a Disney Wars product he won't be allowed to be badass.

Jesus, enough. Enough Maul, wasn't taking over TCW and Rebels for the last 2 and half seasons enough?

Going back to the well hard they are.

Just make a TR-8TR series. that's the only fan ressonance Disney has managed. Just show how he was the cause of Palpatines return, somehow.

So are we expecting and

Its all just indicative of the rut star wars has been in since 2019. The Filoniverse content is just seeping into everything because no one knows what to do and everything disney tries fails like (the high republic). This is just another prequel/connective tissue show for the Filoniverse. They could have made an original animated show set after the sequel films. At least thats a blue sky era where they could do something totally original

Speaking of which... It looks like no one has mentioned yet the Star Wars: Starfighter movie starring Ryan Gosling that was just announced at celebration? They are saying its coming 2027. It's really going to come out before the Rey movie isn't it?

Those prosthetics let the actors use their faces. Acting through a Greedo mask is an entirely different challenge.

The sad thing is, this is Didnee Wors which makes this expected and potentially dubious in quality and will just be unavailable anywhere but on their subscription service, as usual. Also, Maul is fun when he's used sparingly and has the freedom to do cool Sith stuff, not be relegated to having it set right after the Clone Wars (otherwise canon go boom!) while also being neutered to make him more kid friendly.

I don't have confidence in this thing, and I'm a Maul fan. This wouldn't make me want to renew my D+ subscription, because Didnee put a lot of stupid things into Star Wars canon, and this show will be used to further validate or lead up to some of those stupid things.
