It's a tactic called blackwashing, the opposite of whitewashing a topic/subject. A primary example is flat earth theory which undermines any criticism of NASA'S budget, SpaceX fraud, science grants for boondoggles like quantum computers and particle colliders, etc. Another example is the reptilian theory which undermines any criticism of Jewish nepotism and global banking, think tanks, NGOs, corporate lobbyists, etc and their powermongering. Yet another example is the use of the National Enquirer, which loaded its pages with nonsensical junk in order to bury certain inconvenient ideas (such as the possibility that just because the news told you a celebrity/politician died, they are actually dead); all those Elvis and Tupac sightings make light of the possibility that JFK faked his assassination (or McKinley, or Lincoln, or George Wallace's attempt, Ronald Reagan's attempt, Trump's attempt, etc). There's theories, sure, but those events are important and shouldn't be handwaved away just because professional exaggerators like Alex Jones say stupid things tha make rational people roll their eyes.
Edit: And duh, the most obvious one of all: Alex Jones and his personality blackwashes anyone pointing out industrial waste products in our water, air, and soil as a crazy person. His lolsuit, which was staged, fake, and gay, is also an attempt to make anyone who criticizes hoaxes pulled off by the DHS/CIA and crisis actors (mass shootings, terrorist bombings) seem like insensitive lunatics, as well as create a chilling effect on free speech.
