The people who yell stuff at Rocky Horror Picture Show screenings also feel like they’re yelling proto-memes.

It's an interesting point. I'd just say the purpose of Rocky Horror was always to enjoy yourself at the performance, not post about it on social media later. Even in 2006, there were uploads here and there of people screaming "I've had it with these motherfuckin' snakes on this motherfuckin' plane" in the theatre. More to the point, Snakes was practically memed into existence, with material being added late in production in response to the lunacy on the internet attending the pre-release word of mouth. Anyone remember this actual piece of promo art?

It was weird that they but Snow White in the thumbnail even though it wasn’t an original movie and they barely talked about it.

I think it was there purely because at the moment it's the third highest grossing film of the year (something that presumably won't last).

Their TDS leaked out a bit in this episode. Please don't succumb RLM.

Mickey 17 now falls into the category of "We predicted Trump would lose so we made a failed parody of him being a (literal) loser!" ,which misses the mark and alienates people. It happened with that G20 movie on Prime, too. I was watching old Conan videos of him visiting Greenland in 2018 or so. He made "Trump" jokes, but they were light, tongue in cheek, and something everyone could laugh at. Movies could do something like that and retain the possibility of every demographic attending their films, not just half.

If theaters want to live, they need to show old movies, do a membership that allows people to go to multiple movies a month and pay 1-5 dollars a ticket with membership, and give people referral bonuses. Rewards points, private events, better technology. A lot of theaters are CHEAPSKATES who keep old seats, use dim, old screens, and have bad sound systems. UPGRADE! Let kids watch e sports events, or the game awards, or whatever they want at the theater and reserve a screen with their friends. Modernize!

I still say Minecraft is the first "meme" movie. It was made to be a meme, to have memes made of it, and it took off as a meme that the kids all chant along to in the theater. Other movies were adapted into memes by viewers after release.

Snakes on a Plane actually had the script re-written to add the "I hate these motherfucking snakes" line, so no, Moroncraft is not the first deliberate meme movie.

"Why did the Minecraft movie do so well? Meme movies were never this successful before!"

Jesus, Mike and Jay ARE out of touch old people!

RE: movie theaters

The best recent film experiences I've had are when theaters do special reshowings of classic films that came out before I was born, and therefore couldn't experience them on the big screen.

They should do that more.

"Hello, and welcome to another video people will hate us for." - Mike

Oh, this one is going to be good.

The fact that the new original IPs are flopping to the recognizable media aren’t because people are sheep that go to what they recognize, but because those original movies suck. They aren’t even fun enough to go kill time and still drip with the insincere writing and acting and editing that plague every other fucking movie.
Semi-related to Mike enjoying TDS 17, I found them pearl clutching over a comedy making "out of date" jokes about a sperg very annoying to listen to. Who cares? It's just a comedy. Shit is going to be exaggerated, that is par for the course for the genre. Mike laughing at a real life old woman because she had a litany of issues on BOTW is way more edgy than any comedy film making jokes, but I guess Mike needs to preach from some moral high ground because the usual suspects in the press gallery screamed the word "yikes" at the moopie for making the 'wrong' type of jokes. Mike has this odd tendency to sometimes put way too much stock into what the activists in the press say about films. From the article snippets he puts in the videos I assume he reads a lot of mainstream bullshit which probably colors a lot of their dumbest takes on things. Really wish the few YouTubers that I bother to watch would stop occasionally pandering to this bullshit already, if there is anything that is out of date it's pearl clutching over every joke slightly out of left field.

Also it's worth noting that the idea that China removed Boyega from the posters/movie which Jay claimed is a notorious myth fueled by these same freaks. Other characters, such as Poe Dameron and Chewbacca were also minimized so it wasn't racially motivated. But "China racist" because they correctly minimized a character on a poster that had very little to do overall in the film. It's not like it mattered because the movie didn't do so well in China anyways. I fucking wish they made them cut out his dumb character from the movie, that would have been hilarious. Especially considering how annoying Boyega is IRL.

Oh, and their disdain for torrenting was also very funny and out of touch. I am wondering who in Mike's circle torrents, Rich perhaps? Well they would be pleased to know that most have stopped even torrenting some of these awful films, that's how bad most of them are. So overall it's yet another old men yelling at cloud type of video from them.

I just want to mention how they kept talking about how Companion was such a good fucking movie and bemoaned about how nobody went to see it in theaters, but they didn't even bother doing a Half in the Bag on it and mostly spent the past several half in the bags talking about movies that have left the theaters and talking about how their theaters are filled with either knuckle dragging degenerates or retards that don't understand the movie they're watching, lmfao.

And to a slight extent that would have supported the "highest grossing movies are based on existing IPs", that one animated chink movie that came out earlier this year which is now the fifth highest grossing movie of all time or something is a sequel yet I don't recall a single mention of it.

The only criticism Mike had of that movie WAS Ruffalo's caricature of Trump in the movie. He seemed to find that a bit tiresome, if anything.

I will say that I don't expect subtlety from the directer of Snowpiercer.

There are a lot of people out there who seem to like the fact that they enjoy something unique that nobody else knows about more than they like that thing. It's what we used to call a "hipster" attitude before that word lost all meaning.
I see a lot of that in Mike and Jay -- they like feeling superior to those moo cows around them, and that comes through whenever they get the chance to gush over some underappreciated film.
It's clear that they appreciate good filmmaking, too -- but sometimes their "Aren't I special because I 'get' this arthouse trash?!" attitude shines through.

Unless Amazon loses the right to sell it or whatever their reason is, then they will silently remove it from your library. Happened to two out of five movies I bought from those fucks. Digital sales are a scam.
Which makes his rant about torrenting even stupider. Since none of these streaming services are releasing physical copies of their shit piracy is now the only way to watch stuff. Remember that shitty Willow D+ show? They pulled the show off their servers within a couple of months so now if you want to watch it you have to pirate it. Yeah, I know the show sucked but what happens when a lot of these streaming services inevitably shut down? There's going to be a lot of lost media from this era of entertainment.

Yeah like Mike and Jay could be promoting movies they like instead of making the same tired stuff complaining about the death of movie theaters all the fucking time.

Yeah, I was just going to say that. "This movie feels dated because it doesn't present crazy people in a positive light." It doesn't matter how dangerous the person is, as long as it's "not their fault". We need to protect those people from discrimination!

This little detail changes a lot. The only way to own something digital is to either have a physical copy and/or file(s) with no DRM like the games on GoG.
