Mickey 17 now falls into the category of "We predicted Trump would lose so we made a failed parody of him being a (literal) loser!" ,which misses the mark and alienates people. It happened with that G20 movie on Prime, too. I was watching old Conan videos of him visiting Greenland in 2018 or so. He made "Trump" jokes, but they were light, tongue in cheek, and something everyone could laugh at. Movies could do something like that and retain the possibility of every demographic attending their films, not just half.
If theaters want to live, they need to show old movies, do a membership that allows people to go to multiple movies a month and pay 1-5 dollars a ticket with membership, and give people referral bonuses. Rewards points, private events, better technology. A lot of theaters are CHEAPSKATES who keep old seats, use dim, old screens, and have bad sound systems. UPGRADE! Let kids watch e sports events, or the game awards, or whatever they want at the theater and reserve a screen with their friends. Modernize!
I still say Minecraft is the first "meme" movie. It was made to be a meme, to have memes made of it, and it took off as a meme that the kids all chant along to in the theater. Other movies were adapted into memes by viewers after release.
