It's true, their review of Strange Darling made me stop before getting spoiled, rent it, and I really enjoyed it.

Jack Quaid comes across like a nice guy, like a Zachary Levi type who skips the gym, but I just tire of this nepo baby modern hollywood guy lead. Same reason I didn't care for watching Borderline even though I like Samara Weaving, I don't need Jack Nicholson's kid trying to keep some of that prestige spotlight on himself.

All Hollywood Nepo Babies are to be deported unless they can beat Barron Trump in hand to hand combat.

I understand they’re movie guys, but I cannot understand how you can watch any of these and not despair over movies as a medium.
For plenty of people the deeper they're into something the easier it is to overlook shit. It's the same reason we have 20+ year old MMOs still stumbling along well past their prime. And I would say Mike and Jay fit into that mindset extremely well considering they're now in their mid-40s and have been passionate about the film industry since they were teens.

Saying they're "movie guys" is kinda underselling it, they have lived and breathed film for longer than some posters here have been alive. I know Mike likes football, so that's something, but I can't tell you a single thing in life Jay enjoys other than film. They're in too deep, they will just accept the trash because it's all they have.

I have been into movies since Mike et al were in diapers, if not before they were born, and I have no patience for some of the Hollywood pap they are going easy on these days.

They play softball with Hollywood now because of Mike's ambitions to mainstream connections.

Re: Mickey 17

Uh folks, the movie is based off a book..I mean if the Trump-like character was in the book, then the book should be blamed not the movie. I mean Mike did say it in the video. And aside from that, the video is okay at best.

The movie took several creative liberties from the book (which, for one thing, is named Mickey 7). I'm pretty confident that the book didn't include Ruffalo's Trump delivery or red-capped supporters. Consider who Ruffalo and the director are when evaluating that particular creative decision.

Well, I am still doubting it, unless a Kiwi who has read the book can prove it, I will still doubt it.

If we're talking cinematic memetics, the best example I can think of is Rocky Horror. It was known chiefly for ironic appreciation, riddled with quotes/reactions, and the chicken jockey memetic behavior mirrors RHPS to a tee.
The types of screenings like Rocky Horror or Tge Room were always at their best as small, casual events where you could snark out loud as long as you were funny. The problem is that if it’s not organic then it is simply annoying; and prescripted “in-jokes” that pervaded every screening are what ruins such events. It’s the same with sing-alongs or April Fool’s Day jokes or tabletop games.

This just cements RHPS as the 1st meme movie for me; memes have the ability to annoy in the way you describe.
IIRC I mentioned having an exchange with Uwe Boll Podcast about this last week; Minecraft Movie is the successor to RHPS.

And it's at the worst time too. The industry is filled with DEI and ugly nepos in charge. These people gatekeep just as hard as 80s executives, but aren't as competent as them.

I don't get why some people still act like the downfall of theaters is some sort of mystery. Why would you waste your money going to the theater when most movies suck now and and there's a 90% chance it's going to be on VOD/streaming within a month? It's not like the 80s, 90s, and 00s anymore. Movies are available to watch at home pretty quickly and its pretty fucking cheap to have a nice big tv and sound bar. I very rarely watch a movie at home now and think to myself "wow, that amazing and I wish I would have paid to see it on the big screen" especially since the ones that are best on the big screen are the big budget blockbuster stuff that has been cucked the hardest by modern hollywood.

Something in me just "snapped" in the late 90's one evening after I walked out of a movie theater with a group of friends following a mediocre movie. We went out to dinner afterward and I added up all the tabs when we were done. We spent less on a well-cooked full meal for six people at a decent restaurant than we did on movie tickets and overpriced popcorn & soda. And we were at the restaurant for a good couple of hours, too.

When I pointed that out, it dawned on all of us at the same time -- we'd just spent less money but got far greater entertainment value from the restaurant than we did from the theater. Good food, good lighting, a friendly waitress, good conversation (i.e. we spent the time together talking and laughing and goofing off, rather than sitting in silence passively absorbing media), and no rush or discourtesy from anybody.

Fuck movie theaters. I'll take my friends out for burgers & fries any day over a trip to the movies now.

I don’t take their opinions seriously on new movies anymore, I think they are sick of being cynical and want to like stuff again despite it all being slop. 90% of the shit Jay shills is horror faux-psychological nothing-burgers about white women losing their minds and hardly anything of consequence happens. These films fail to capture an audience for a reason.

Not to mention, you can pretty much build your own for around $1500 and it'll pretty much just pay for itself. I've got a 55 inch 4k display and a decent enough soundbar, and I've got basically the same experience, aside from the fact that I can pause it and go to the bathroom. Theaters suck.

The best recent film experiences I've had are when theaters do special reshowings of classic films that came out before I was born, and therefore couldn't experience them on the big screen
especially imax, if you don't see it that first week you're fucked for life for most big films now. at this point why not have an all imax theater and just play older films in half of them. still pissed i missed out on Top Gun 2

lmao I just saw this, looks like people are being tricked
