A 16-year-old track athlete was killed during a championship meet Wednesday morning in Texas by a member of another team, officials said.

Frisco Police confirmed the student-athlete died "despite lifesaving measures." The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, has been charged with first-degree murder.

A student from Frisco Memorial was the victim, according to local reports. Frisco Memorial Principal Brook Fesco wrote in an email obtained by Fox News Digital that Austin Metcalf, a junior at the school, had died Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. at Kuykendall Stadium at the University Interscholasic League's District 11-5A championship meet. Anthony attends Frisco Centennial, roughly 7 miles away from Frisco Memorial.

According to the Frisco Independent School District, the meet was suspended shortly after the incident. The ISD added that the stadium "was immediately secured, and students were released and sent back to their home campus on FISD buses with expediency."

In her email, Fesco said the school "will acknowledge Austin’s death during 2nd period and will offer support throughout the day," adding counselors would be available.

"As a parent, your guidance and support will be important in helping your child process grief. Talking about this together, face-to-face, will give you a chance to discuss how your family understands and copes with loss. You may also want to discuss with your child how to be a supportive friend to classmates," Fesco wrote. "This loss might remind your student of past losses as well. The most important thing you can do is provide your child a chance to be heard and to express their feelings."

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said in a statement. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

Metcalf, who also played football at the school, participated in both the boys shot put and discus events earlier in the day, with threw distances of 39 feet, 9¾ inches and 86 feet, 4 inches, respectively.

Anthony ran the boys' 100-meter dash in 12.38 seconds and was scheduled to compete in the long jump.

Eight schools competed at the meet, according to MileSplit.

The facts, according to official police reports, early interviews, and witness testimonies that have been released to far:

• Karmello had a reputation for frequently getting into fights and had made vague statements to other students about having a knife and "wanting to kill someone"
• Karmello went to a track meet that he was not participating in. No plausible excuse (Meeting friends, a relative on the track team, ect) has been provided for his presence there.
• Karmello had concealed and smuggled a knife to the track event, against both school policy and state laws.
• At some point, Karmello went uninvited into an area specifically designated for the victims team. No plausible motive for this has been given. Interviewed students said that this sort of activity in the past was linked to theft of personal items.
• Karmello was confronted by the victim and asked to leave. He refused and made threatening statements to the victim ("Try it and see what happens") before pulling the knife and stabbing the victim in the heart.
• After stabbing the victim, Karmello threw the knife away into the bleachers and fled the scene instead of trying to give the victim aid or explain his actions.
• When confronted by police, Karmello admitted to the stabbing and provided no justification for it, for having the knife, or for being at the track meet in the first place.
• An African American judge reduced Karmellos bail from $1,000,000 to $250,000 with no justification other than she "felt it was too high"

And now these "influencers" are spreading outright lies that contradict all of this official info while not even bothering to provide sources.

I've seen everything from "It wasn't a knife, it was a cleat sharpener" to "Karmello was supposed to be at that track meet and they were trying to bully him until he left" to "Austin called him racial slurs and was choking him out so he had to stab him"

It's to the point that the top results for googling "Cleat Sharpener" are influencers spreading these lies. And as far as I can tell, there's no such thing as a "Cleat Sharpener".

So in those terms it would be even higher. However, keep in mind these totals are for a population in the hundreds of millions. So these stats are an entirely valid as a criticism of media portrayals always being White, but not as a guide to thinking any given person you meet is a serial killer. You're very bad at mathematics if you turn stats like this into a substitute for your personal judgement.

About the black serial killer thing, looks like they're defining "serial killer" as "having murdered two or more people in separate incidents" for literally any reason, including financial gain.

It should also be noted that they're only listing serial killers who got caught.

I could posit socioeconomic reasons alone as being part of why white serial killers are less likely to be caught.
