This is completely true. I have seen very few legit benzo Rx's in the 21st century that didn't have a better alternative. Panic/Anxiety attacks? Hydroxyzine. Muscle stiffness secondary to injury? Any number of non-scheduled muscle relaxers that works just fine. Generalized anxiety disorder? SNRI/Buspirone/Gepirone. Insomnia? Z-drugs/Rozerem/Melatonin/Belsomra. Agitation? Hydroxyzine.

The only legit use they have these days is for breakthrough seizures of the grand mal type, or status epilepticus, and then those would be in-hospital/EMS use.

Most people with a benzo Rx are people that have been on them since the 70s/80s and likely can't quit them at this point.

To my knowledge, not once in print or in stream has Rekieta said anything that indicates he gives a thought to recovery. Here's the thing: In order to get sober and clean, the addicted person must be absolutely honest with themselves and not just honest about their addiction(s) but also honest about their character defects, along with a recognition of the harm they've brought to others.

With certain kinds of people--usually drunks or addicts who are hopelessly brain-damaged by their addiction or people with serious mental issues such as schizophrenia--in-depth honesty is impossible since their grasp of reality is so tenuous and jumbled they can't be honest with themselves. Not their fault. Most of these poor demented bastards end up in homes, assisted care facilities and the like.

And then there are those in the sociopathic range such as Rekieta, that special class of fucked-up, grandiose, narcissistic bitches and pricks who will go through the motions to keep the law or their families or their bosses off their backs. Their plan is to play pretend long enough to fool the judge (or the wife or the husband) so they can get out from under whatever consequences they're facing. We all know about plans. That Mike Tyson quote comes to mind: "Everybody's got a plan until they get punched in the face."
