I'm listening to the Casino's Rekieta segment and I just had a full-on denthead moment. Rekieta was trying to claim that because the cops cannot contaminate the evidence by taking it out of the packaging, that said packaging contributed to the weight recorded on the scale. I actually bought his lie for a moment.

Not only does the packaging weigh like .1 grams, it doesn't matter because THEY PROBABLY ROUNDED DOWN ANYWAY! It would make the prosecutor's job so much easier if they just always rounded down the number anyway, so that any argument about packaging weight or scale inaccuracies is immediately shut down. There's no way they don't do that. Can anyone edumacate me on this?

HS-GC-MS or HPLC-MS are the methods preferred these days for finding people pissing hot.

If they are running a HS-GC-MS, Nick is probably screwed. With that they can pick up nitrous levels in blood 4 hours after use with a sensitivity of approximately 85% and a specificity over 95%.

The background level of N2O in the blood of any average person is 0.01 ml N2O/L whole blood, it is just not a gas that anyone is routinely exposed to outside of healthcare, and even then your levels are nowhere near the cutoff they use for prosecution. The threshold they use for prosecution is over 0.l ml N2O/L whole blood. So, the cut-off is one order of magnitude more than the average background level, which would be impossible to explain outside of nitrous abuse even if you worked in healthcare that involved nitrous.

For a double check they will usually use B12 levels to show your levels are low to very low. There are very few explanations for low B12 in an otherwise healthy person on an unrestricted diet that is not 80 years old and isn't taking any meds that fuck with B12. So, Nick, that is why you have got to keep up with that B12 every day or find a doc that will write you the B12 shots. You're probably better off going with the oral B12, even though the B12 shots work better, since there won't be a real paper trail. If your B12 levels are normal it gives at least a little room for doubt for the typical person that you aren't huffing nitrous. B12 1000 μg (mcg) or 1 mg PO QD (by mouth, everyday) should do it.
