What is a website engine software thingy called? Like what are Vichan and Shimmie2 called? Are they called PHPs? How do you find what type of software website engine thing that a website runs on?

They're imageboards that are written in / run on top of some version / dialect of PHP.
PHP is a language and related language interpreter, Vichan etc. are server applications written in that language.
Edit: "engine" is fine too. "Forum engine", "board software".

I've lurked here in the past when I wanted details on certain individuals, and I'll probably stick around after 4chan comes back but this place is definitely not a replacement. The off-topic discussion about hobbies/interests is too slow from what i've seen, and shitposting with an identity tied to you takes most of the fun out of it
