@Ruben Sim maybe in terms of strategy it might do well to time your stuff with when they actually launch an IPO since the stock price going down would materially hurt the company. OTOH, negative news pre-IPO can be even more disastrous for them.

I'm not sure if/how you plan out stuff, but maybe you should try to form an allegiance/support network with some independent journalists and the like, such that when you have major announcements like this banning they can get a lot more coverage. I think that's a lot easier said than done though, but maybe just worth thinking about.

Even having someone on your crew who can phrase your media releases a bit more dumbed down might help to get wider coverage - you could aim for keemstar/drama alert and similar "news outlets" to spread the word of this stuff. Also having some livestreamers/internet personalities as part of the conversation would probably go a long way in the news spreading wider.

If you're actually doing this as an organized, ongoing effort (which it seems like you are) maybe put out a call/tweet for help with media relations.

edit: if you have any relatively internet famous people on your side, try and get them to get onto people like Keem etc - I know people will balk at that kind of suggestion but it can really help get the word out a lot further.

It's hard to overstate how significant Ro-Cleaner was. The bot had been added to over 23,000 servers was tracking over 640,000 Roblox sex game server members. Games with billions of visits on Roblox were using it. Some of the largest servers had over 1 million members and the /scan command would uncover tens of thousands of these condo players at once. Reminder that Discord has always been unprofitable and that its only real staying power stems from its ability to collect the personal info on users even if deleted. It's the biggest honeypot for the highest bidder.

The banning the anti-goon bot was most likely a decision made by a pornsick employer, but this decision aligns with Discord's underlying strategy of gaining more personal info on its users. It doesn't matter if the user is a pedophile or groomer, all that matters is the data.

Discord has banned Ruben's Ro-Cleaner bot that auto-banned members of Roblox porn servers from any child-friendly Roblox servers that chose to use the bot. Discord is explicitly, deliberately protecting child predators that use their platform to groom children.

I doubt that Discord will just let you share a database of pedophiles either. They're likely to see that as collecting user data and therefore an invasion of privacy, and only they are allowed to invade their users' privacy. Just look at the legal threats they issued to spy.pet and dis.cool.

I don't know if your characterization of the ownership/creation of Discord is particularly meaningful simply because Discord was not a unique innovation and the way you're framing it risks to make certain people sound smarter than they actually are or perhaps more evil than they actually are (I can't comment on the evil part because I'm not sure how much Discord C-suite has commented about the child molester thing and its hard to tell from a glance if actions like this one we're talking about came from high up or low down in the hierarchy)

All Discord did was use VC money to subsidize a problem that Ventrilo, Teamspeak etc inherited from IRC which was that they weren't centralized and had no "memory". They also had in common, specifically for IRC, that users had to be highly technically proficient at what they were doing to get anywhere with the programs/protocols.

It wasn't built to enable child molesters, it was built to enable increasingly stupid people access to the information superhighway, much like how Steve Jobs "innovation" of the iPhone did the same thing and has progressively ruined the internet as more stupid people are allowed on this place.

The child molester thing is just a natural outcome of stupider people being allowed on the internet and probably also carried by furries being highly tech-adjacent and given the "social" nature of Discord they probably filled up its ranks early on - its the same reason why KF gets censored so much.

TLDR: people may have their opinions about whether or not the founders/cofounders are entirely responsible for stuff like this (or that they deliberately created Discord to facilitate this exact behavior) but this problem isn't one that is just isolated to Discord. Telegram has had far worse on it from what I have heard. And if Discord falls then something else will replace it, and it may have even less guardrails - that the "increasingly stupid" people accessing the information highway are willing to engage in either borderline illegal or outright illegal stuff out in the clear on a platform where they can actually be tracked may be a highly dubious feature rather than a bug.

Sadly, at some stage or another Discord will probably falter due to corporate enshitification (continuously adding/removing features against the userbase's will and doing other shitty stuff) and some alternative will take over and its very likely that whatever comes next will be something fully decentralized (like Bluesky is) and the horrible kind of content and grooming that Discord and Telegram are known for will proliferate and no one will be able to stop it because there will be no way to stop it.

That doesn't make sense, if it's federated then that'd mean nobody could stop you from gatekeeping pedophiles from your community because you'd be an entirely self-hosted entity.
