I'm not a sociology expert, technically I think that "alpha" as it actually relates to sociology (unlike PUA junk where every guy can "be an alpha" if he just masters "game") does refer to basically being a leader, or someone who others imitate versus someone who imitates others.Well, that depends on being a lone wolf because you get tired of crowds/groups rather than because the "pack" exiles you. Like people who are good at leadership, but don't like the pressure of being a leader.
I would say alpha is a status were a "pack" can look at you and trust your choices for the good of the pack. Or something like that. But that's just my two cents.
Back on topic, is not like Nice Guys (tm) could lead anything, they can't even put their priorities and life in order, ffs.
At the same time a person can be a "lone wolf" and still be "alpha
And if we're going to be honest, having the prestige he does and using it to virtue signal about feminism doesn't hurt.
Not to lambaste the guy, he's one of my favorite comics. But we live in a world where standing on a table and shouting "I BELIEVE WOMEN ARE EQUAL" will get you cheered as if you're some edgy revolutionary dropping truth bombs no one had ever thought of before in the right circles. Good on him for doing well with his career but he does epitomize the "comedy as a preaching platform" archetype.
It's a little nuanced, I think that being a complete "lone wolf" might be when "alpha" is taken to an unhealthy extreme and ends up backfiring; because the individual is so unwilling to cooperate or 'take orders' from others that they end up being basically exiled; so in that case it's not 'beta' in the sense of being a blind follower, but it ends up coming full circle, since the beta never gets any social prestige due to being an ass kisser and a blind follower, while the 'lone wolf' ends up not getting any social prestige due to being so antisocial or aggressive that no one will accept them into their 'tribe'.Well, that depends on being a lone wolf because you get tired of crowds/groups rather than because the "pack" exiles you. This is basically what happens to guys like the "Return of Kings" folks who try to be "alpha" but are such egotistical try-hards and lacking in real social competence that they end up only able to score drunken sluts at a bar on occasion because no self-respecting woman would actually date them or have their kids; so they end up losing out over guys who are more genuinely socially competant; while on the other extreme you have the simpering betas who might be able to find some domineering wife willing marry them in exchange for room and board, and who only get sex on their birthday if they're lucky.
