I've been saying for a while to my friends, the most likely nuclear war we see in our lives is India Vs Pakistan, because its one of the few nuclear wars that won't meaningfully end the world. Neither India nor Pakistan have enough nuclear weapons to legitimately glass each other, neither have enough weapons to completely fuck the environment, and neither matter so much in global commerce that everyone will drop everything to try and stop them.
Millions will die, cities will get glassed, and the rest of the nuclear powers of the world will sit and take notes on just how bad a modern nuclear exchange can be, and what they might need to prepare for. They'll get to test radiation therapies and ecological recovery plans, track what does and doesn't work for cleanup operations, and generally just learn a lot of very, very useful information for any future nuclear conflicts. It'll be the foot in the door needed to either justify or dismiss future nuclear escalations from other powers.
