The Wagner mercenaries in Syria used to torture captured jihadists by pummeling them to death with sledgehammers. Start with the limbs, then work over the torso, finish with the head, etc. They practiced the same form of execution in Ukraine for a time, but it was bad PR, so they probably were ordered to stop doing it.
