What are you reading right now?

how much would you recommend it? is it comparable to any other fantasy or S&S?
I don't read a lot of fantasy but I can say it does not lean too much into magic or fantastical elements, instead the writing is more focused on character development and consistent pacing, the author gives you 5 main characters with their own POV, so you are guaranteed to grow fond of at least one.

In my opinion its very well written, If I were going to write a book I would use this book as reference for my work.

Abercrombie writes very good dark fantasy with compelling characters, but it's still just dark fantasy. It's pretty good if you just want to unwind. You'll probably be able to finish it in a day or two.

I'm still struggling like hell to read actual books. I am really, really not coping with life without Vyvanse. I have found a temporary solution, however, by playing audio books while I'm playing computer games. I've come across an excellent ytuber by the name of Tony Walker, and his channel, the Classic Ghost Stories Podcast, is all spooky stories read by him in a positively lovely voice. So far I've been through several short or medium length stories by various writers (including an awesome rendition of The Company of Wolves by Angela Carter, one of my favourite writers) and the other night I binged The Haunting of Hill House, which I have to say I appreciated rather more than when I read it some years ago.

Don't do this. You won't remember anything. Your brain will get used to this multi-tasking and it will get even harder for you to read a book. Force yourself to read text for extended periods of time without interruptions. If you're going to listen to music, make it ambient.

I think I read all books on this series. I think the author is B+
Some of the characters he writes are S tier (Sand dan Glokta, for example, is one of the best characters I've ever seen in a fantasy novel)
He is a good writer, he has a way with words
I like how he does fight scenes. There is a lot of realism to it (as much as you can for a fantasy novel). When somebody gets hurt in a fight, it's going to take a while for them to fully recover.

It's kind of dark though, which might put some people off
Horrific things happen, not everybody gets a happy ending
Also the sex scenes are a bit too graphic for my taste

is there any Stephen King worth reading? I've never read anything by him.
I've read only a fraction of King's catalogue and he's very hit or miss for me. For the record, I have never found him particularly scary, although some of his stories do keep me reading from beginning to end. He's good at scene description and he can come up with some really wacky concepts, but I don't find his characters to be all that impressive, generally. His Dark Tower series is an interesting mix of genres, but so full of filler that I can't recommend it in good faith. Maybe read the first two and then watch a Youtube summary of the remainder. I did really, really like Misery. Might be worth taking a look at some of his short story collections.

The Dark Tower (be warned: the last three books are rough and the ending is disappointing); you can ignore The Wind Through The Keyhole
Firestarter
The Shining
The Stand
The Regulators
The Long Walk
The Running Man
Dreamcatcher

Someone pls convince me to read 1984. I still haven't finished my current book, Flowers for Algernon, but I've been thinking about reading 1984 for a long time. But I'm worried it'll be super boring and dated. Any opinions? Is it worth reading?

It is worth it and it is an easy read but be warned there is a part where the main character is reading what is essentially a political manifesto and it is the most boring shit of all time. Overall it's a small part of the book, feel free to scan-read that section because it's kind of just a lore-dump, explaining 'how we got here'.

Orwell wrote much better books than 1984, though. It is far from his best but it's very impactful nonetheless. The movie with John Hurt is very good too.

Let's just say there's a reason why this book gets referenced so much. It's a bleak story about subversion and subjugation. You can find less extreme examples of things that happen in it in real life. It has an interesting villain who explains his motivations well.
