Kurt's weekend stream was a good move to advertise his spergery, because he had no competition. In general, it looks like Skelly is losing viewers at a time when the rest of lawtube is gaining viewers.

Branca is nakedly self-interested and believed that Nick still had some market power because he has a bunch of viewers when he streams. Those are all hate watchers, and aren't going to subscribe to you when you associate with Nick. His quest to get to 200k subscribers (from 198k) has been pathetic.

I believe in Kurt's ability to fuck up his moment here, but if he doesn't sperg out too hard, he'll be exceeding Nick's viewership certainly by the end of the trial if not earlier. Andrea Burkhart and Melanie Little seem like they will be the big winners here, and this will be Nick's swan song as a law streamer. He doesn't like "lawsplaining" and never has, and he's not making money for it.

It's hard for you or I to imagine starting up a stream and getting 2000 viewers all dunking on you and waiting for you to take a sip of alcohol on camera or say something dumb. Nick Rekieta lives that life. He has 50 people who like him in his hugbox, and 2000 people who are watching him like a car crash.

I asked Deepseek to write the case summary in style of Nick Rekieta. I don't know anything about the case, so judge it yourself:

Karen Read Case Summary – Nick Rekieta Style
"Alright, folks, buckle up because we’re diving into the absolute clown fiesta that is the Karen Read case—a Massachusetts dumpster fire where the prosecution seems to be working overtime to prove that ‘reasonable doubt’ is just a suggestion."

The Basics: What Even Happened?

Karen Read, a woman from Mansfield, Massachusetts, was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death after her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, was found dead outside a Canton home in January 2022.
The prosecution claims Read hit O’Keefe with her SUV during a snowstorm and left him to die. But—and this is a big but—the defense argues this is a sham investigation, possibly even a cover-up, involving local cops who had every reason to protect their own.

The Conspiracy Angle: Because of Course There Is One

  • The defense alleges O’Keefe was actually beaten inside the house (owned by another cop) and then dumped outside to make it look like an accident.
  • They claim injuries on O’Keefe’s arms suggest a fight, not just being hit by a car.
  • There were reports of broken glass and blood inside the home (conveniently ignored, according to defense).
  • A key witness (another cop) allegedly Googled "hos long to die in cold" (yes, really) before calling 911—which… uh… doesn’t scream innocence.

The Evidence (Or Lack Thereof)

  • No definitive forensic proof ties Read's car directly to O'Keefe's injuries.
  • The crime scene was allegedly mishandled (shocking for small-town cops, I know).
  • Some witnesses changed their stories (because why not?).
  • The lead investigator had personal ties to people involved (totally not suspicious).

Trial Shenanigans & Public Outrage

This case has become a lightning rod for controversy:
  • Supporters of Read (#FreeKarenRead) claim she's being scapegoated because she's an outsider in a tight-knit police community.
  • Critics say she got preferential treatment early on (because of course they do).
  • The judge has already tossed some charges mid-trial (which never looks great for prosecutors).

Final Thoughts: Is This Case Legit or Just Copaganda?

Look, I don’t know if Karen Read is innocent or guilty—but what I do know is that this case stinks worse than week-old chowder left in a Boston summer heatwave. Between the questionable police work, shifting narratives, and that wild Google search… this feels less like justice and more like small-town politics at its worst.
So grab your popcorn, folks—this trial ain't over yet. And if history tells us anything? The truth might be buried deeper than Boston snow in February."
(Cue outro music while Nick sips whiskey.)

Nick confirms he will be flying solo, with a co-host to disappoint now being one less reason to wake up on time:
So who will cover the dead air when he's off snorting cocaine?
I guess will be back on Monday and uh hang out for a minute after I shut out uh Nick I got a couple questions for you and uh that said until we meet again stay safe.
Let me guess the questions were things like are you actually going to show up and will you be sober next time and things like that and Nick's answers were some variation of "FUCK YOU DAD!"

Don't worry Nick, retweeting the same links to your stream multiple times in an hour totally doesn't reek of complete fucking desperation.

I thought Aaron was supposed to be the beggy one!

Kurt actually can do pretty decent lawstreams at times.

I can't find the goddamned thing now, but he actually did one years ago where he played the oral appeal argument in a case out of South Carolina where the cops turned some guy into a paraplegic. I must confess it was a pretty comfy listen, despite just being him.

The problem with Read is I think there is oversaturation of coverage.

Slobbermutt believes he's just gonna slow die out from this point on:

(Also, he's thinking about merging Grift Wars (our current home) into Internet Famous).

Still, boring or no, Nick needs to stream so we can get our "interesting new matters of public record." Unless @MNPublicRecords is willing to start dumping without the usual trigger.

EDIT: Typo.

He either makes wrong assumptions or just says some generic shit, there's zero value in watching his streams if you're actually interested in Karen Read trial or law.
He could coast on just saying generic shit. It wouldn't even require some huge study session, just the equivalent of reading CliffsNotes in the form of a few popular legal blog updates a day. He can't do that so even watching in real time, you're just getting a bunch of dick jokes and whining and wailing about his own personal woes.
Look, I don’t know if Karen Read is innocent or guilty—but what I do know is that this case stinks worse than week-old chowder left in a Boston summer heatwave.
The jokes aren't supposed to make sense. It's supposed to stink like a cop at a Denny's. Or like a ten year old with a scat fetish. Something more Rekieta.

Kurt's issue is that he does something spergy like his "Chevron Dance" and then loses everyone who thinks he's respectable. Nick won't do any such thing. If Nick does something spergy, it will actually gain him viewers hoping for something interesting. Otherwise he will bleed out.

I tried listening to Nick's coverage for 15 minutes just to give him a fair chance but his voice is so awful and whiny sounding I wouldn't be able to watch him even if he had something useful to say.
I usually watch the recaps by lawyer you know instead of live trial coverage. I highly recommend him for anyone who wants to hear a real lawyer go over things.

I think Kurt's other issue here is that he's not a lawyer.

I mean, he technically is, but like, not really. He was a supervisory patent clerk with a law license.

Look at the people that are actually doing exceptionally well. They actually practice or have practiced extensively. People appreciate "expert commentary."

This is the very essence of why Nick's law license is so important to him. He needs it for that aura of credibility, even if he has no idea what the hell he's talking about.

Also, props to Emily Baker for staying out of this shitshow. That's clearly paying dividends for her now.

Nick won't do any such thing. If Nick does something spergy, it will actually gain him viewers hoping for something interesting. Otherwise he will bleed out.
Then he's fucked. Because if he does anything too spergy, it'll set off alarm bells at probation, and he's got five years of that shit to get through.
