Mass Effect Andromeda: Shitstorm Edition - RIP Biowear

As far as how it looks, I do think the environments look great. And we’ve seen that in Battlefield and Battlefront. But, uh, who’s the person at BioWare who insists on lighting their characters in the least flattering way possible? ‘Hey everyone, can we make sure the shadows really hug everyone’s jowls? The characters are looking far too attractive in this scene."

A pretty savage line from PCgamer.

I don't know why, but RPS making nearly half the article screenshots an uncomfortable closeup of the ugliest 3d heads in ME:A with slackjawed expressions is making me smile in a way I haven't in ages.

Also this quote sums it up pretty well.

Within minutes of starting there’s a cutscene in which a soldier type is shooting an already entirely dead corpse, and someone else has to say, “Hey, hey, take it easy,” and he fires off a few more shots and declares himself satisfied. I can’t even imagine how anyone can feel okay with writing that into a script without experiencing enough shame to just get up, walk away, and keep walking until they fall off of or into something.

They even used this as the closer image.

I didn't want this game to be an utter trainwreck, not really, but it feels like a suitable comeuppance that's been coming since ME3 and DA:I. I hope this is the nail in the coffin (or at least a wake up call) for Bioware to really sit back and think about wtf they're doing when they make games.

But I began to write this game off the moment I found out they were going to redo the War Room mechanic from DA:I with the missions you send people out to do and then wait in real time for it to finish. Awful mechanic. Just awful. That is FB game tier shit.

Man, PC Gamer is giving it lukewarm reviews, Gamespot is mocking it, Giant Bomb is just laughing at it...fuck, this is a disaster. If gaming journalists can't even defend your game, you fucked up really bad.

They are using that mechanic because they are going to give you the option to do the mission yourself in multiplayer. It will apparently save your game and jump you into MP mode. So you get a lot of opportunities to jump in and spend your money on micro-transactions. Wouldn't be surprised if they made it high chances to fail so you are encouraged to jump into the multiplayer aspect.

This is what happens when you let 3D motion capture do your animation because your dev team was hired straight out of Tumblr and worries more about having ugly fat women character models and social issues as a focal point instead of game polish.

What fucking year is this? This shit is unacceptable from a AAA dev. You're in fucking denial if you think a day one patch or 1.2 update will fix a broken piece of shit.

The nicest thing I can say about Mass Effect Andromeda is it's nice to know the Sonic Boom devs found work.
