One of the greater ironies is that nowadays many trades and even some forms of relatively unskilled labor (construction not being unskilled in application but the average worker typically does not require specialization or additional education and instead learns on the job site or specializes as part of a crew) pay much better than what a typical college graduate can hope to make, especially considering the opportunity cost of student loans and 3 to 6 years of formal education vs a 2 year vocational school program into an apprenticeship.

Also consider that in many economically depressed areas there may only be construction and manual labor jobs. If you live in a crappy old town whose best years are behind it, you are probably not going to find a six figure job unless you are willing to relocate, and a reliable construction or trades job is more than enough to support a family.
Attempting to talk down to the blue collar class and presume they do not take pride in what they do is such an odd type of projection, showing a complete inability to properly empathize but instead attach their own biases to a subject they obviously don't know at all. The same sort of people unable to imagine why "common" workers may actually enjoy or pride themselves on their occupations are similarly baffled when these people vote for Literal Hitler.
Not every person aims or cares to be an engineer or doctor, and it is good that people can find purpose in the blur collar gigs. I would find a lot more purpose and value in "building roads and improvements people use every day" than in "has-been youtube 'star' who argues with randos".

Here's the biggest misconception about skilled labor or labor in general that most millennials don't realize. You get PAID to LEARN. It's called On-The-Job Training. Laborers do not start at minimum wage. If anything, the median, relegated to the state, is somewhere between $10-$17 dollars. Becoming skilled at it will net you a bump in pay to somewhere near $25/hr. A decent sized construction company with around maybe a thousand employees will make you close to $50k/year plus, Medical/Dental/401K. Find a Union and you get that plus pension. Academia is a joke. If you want to make a living, go to a trade school and they'll get you a job while you're learning.
But throw away all of the benefits of that for this idea: Some people actually take pride in the work they do. They are proud to say "I helped build this." Just because this camslut for Let's Play bucks isn't proud of his own bullshit, has no bearing on what other people feel about their own jobs.

I actually think by debating Jon this guy completely shot himself in the foot. Sure, Jon came off worse in the debate, but since Jon has such a large fanbase it's thrown the spotlight onto Destiny in a way it wasn't there before and it's caused people to dig a little deeper on him.
