Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Final Fantasy/Persona inspired FRPG

I've avoided this game because "Inspired by" is a red flag for me, but seeing all this praise coming from the Farms has made me reconsider, cant wait to try it

Not that it really matters but shes not hapa
Spoil that shit, bro.
She's hapa in my heart.

Just got the blue mage. He's actually really fun, just wondering if he there are some bosses with moves you can miss.
I think he only gets skills from mob types, not bosses.
And I do agree, he's fun (in team B) because of the wildcard ways you can build him and his Wheel is one big gamba.
I don't even plan. I roll the dice and where the Wheel drops, I use that skill, because I slotted every type.
THE gamba character with built in gamba mechanic.

3 is too little for a party. it should have been 4. thats my only complaint.
I also expected 4, but I'm getting used to 3.

Also that fucking Getting Over It beach challenges, the devs really make you sweat for the fanservice.
Man, that fucking climb challenge made my palms all sweaty.

Did it with a cold cloth near me, so I can wipe every jump.

Forget that math shit, it doesn't matter. Sometimes you hit big number, and that's all that matters. The pure dopamine hit of hit an enemy with a great big 9999 on an attack that really shouldn't do that much is why you run Roulette.

It's your decision to make, but I will tell you this.
It's been years, very long years, since I got excited and enjoyed a game to this extent.
Everything about it JUST WORKS!

im going to fuck with it trying to kill some big fuckoff red monsters
Gamba is the life, bro!
You have Rouletter for it, you have a character who's entire mechanic is a huge spinning wheel (roulette) and Lune even has an item that gives random stains, that can do wonders on the alpha strike.
And I also want to shill the pictos and Lumina that give effects On Heal. You can buff and feed AP to your party, and with Verso, you can feed AP even more.
The video below illustrates this + Lune's gamba item that gave me perfect stains for a skill.

Am I the only one who goes pure Speed in level up? I thought I'd have to stop eventually, but equipment makes up the difference. After that I think I'll take luck since crits seem to have more effect.

Depends on the character. Monoco gets pretty wild if you get his speed high enough but I'm bad at dodging so I have proportionately more in vitality than speed. I'm one of those people that if I miss one dodge I panic and starting missing more.

My endgame party is Sciel, Monoco and Verso.

Thing is that as long as you don't get one hit KO'd having superior speed means you can do more damage and heal more (which is especially useful since you get resources to healing).

There's a lot of autism with abilities I still didn't go into, the irony is that if you mastered parrying you can beat pretty much everything.

If you go off the beaten path and find a dungeon called Frozen Hearts, it's totally worth doing if you're vastly underleveled like me. You get a ton of great weapons and XP and the attack patterns are extremely easy to memorize and parry. Managed to pick this up for !Vergil when all of my weapons were level 11 at most.

Yeah Frozen Hearts is a great area for levelling and has in my opinion the two coolest costumes in the game: The Danseuse outfit for Sciel and The Pelerin outfit for Verso.

Funny little easter egg. I started laughing so much, I had to pause the game and leave the room.

Some later encounters are insane on Expert, with heavy mixes of dodge, parry, gradient and parry.
I prefer some contingency plan for when I inevitably fumble something, so having defensive Lumina is, in my opinion, recommended.

I still prefer my Dualiso for Verso, even if the scaling is probably one of the worst. Having a basic attack not end your turn, is build defining, especially with how many Basic Attack effects there are.
I mean, you can attack twice, you get +1 AP for swing (so +4), you get buffs, you apply debuffs and so on. This also builds into his Perfection mechanic, that incentivizes you to attack as often as possible.
Big numbers are nice, but until I can break the 9999 barrier, I prefer other choices.

It's funny because there's been a lot of moments where you can see where you would've gotten the gay retard path from another dev. Like when Sciel and Lune are talking about the past and how Lune changed after her parents died. Was expecting some lesbomancy but no, they're just good friends. What a novel concept! Sciel's backstory about her husband dying and trying to kill herself and losing her baby and the regret about that was also unexpected and well done.
These story beats alone are just amazing to be included in a modern game. I actually yelped when those two had a heart-to-heart.

Some more nice details I noticed, but warning spoilers:
  • The team encounters a ferris wheel and Gustav says they were used for travel by older expeditions. You find a journal later on and it confirms this statement.
  • Esquie, the team mount, gets jealous when Verso receives a team armband. Verso gives him a armband and wrap it around his head which can be seen on his model all the time, even in the overworld
  • During the journey, you have to fight two bosses to break down a barrier to the paintress. If you try and head for the paintress before fighting the two bosses, a cutscene plays that shows Lune almost turning into flowers when trying to cross the barrier.
They didn't have to add any of the above details, but they were really nice to see. I was really surprised that a cutscene played when trying to get to the paintress early. Old RPGs would just have a text box saying "you can't come here now, return later" or something.

I've been watching streamers play it, the game looks very pretty and I always can count on frenchies to have good art direction.
Hopefully they stay small, talented and consistent for the long run.

While the regular people are enjoying this game, someone has found a fatal flaw in this game:
They've used an AI placeholder texture (that's been patched out) on an insignificant object!!!!!1! omg!!! 😱 😱😱😱😱😱

What a relevant user name, failure of an artist seethes at a little AI usage. Maybe they could be engagement baiting but their timeline is full of political seethe+fetish shit and barely any post of their actual art (even in their tumblr blog) 🤔
This faggot is not helping their cause.

I am for actually having artists do real shit, but I genuinely do not understand what the issue is that they used AI to generate a cluster of old time newspaper pages. Hell, they could have left the original asset in, and I don't think it'd be a huge deal. Fucking Dark Souls 2 has cans of Heineken in the Gutter if you look.
