Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

then crying foul of the bigots who don't want to pay $80 for these shitty design-by-committee slop games.
Price debacle now reached pajeetsoft and they are now also charging higher price for their games.
There's no better time to go to seven seas under Jolly Roger. I would expect backlash, but most casual gamers are niggercattle who will meekly pay 80$+ for their slop

This is the funniest one to me because when was the last time Microsoft put out a game anybody gave a shit about? And it's all on Game Pass any way
I am more bummed by their price hike on periphery as well. I have big hands and Xbox controllers has the best layout for me. I was about to upgrade from Xbox one controller to Xbox one X one. Guess who's going to go third party now

You don't even need to pirate if you aren't into that as a PC gamer, just wait, eventually everything goes on sale. There are plenty of games to play in the meantime, more than anyone can ever finish in a lifetime.

If it wasn't for the Digital Homicide debacle Jim Sterling would have Laura Kate Dale levels of low viewership. But since he got a big view for that crap he was able to keep going spreading his awful takes to a large audience that finally woke up and realized what a manchild he is.
No, he did have a genuine following on Escapist and many of them followed him when he left. Being able to keep the "Jimquisition" branding really helped him because he left on his own terms, as opposed to Moviebob who got fired.

You need to remember that back then, he was respected and a lot of his more questionable aspects were hidden behind a goofy persona, so that when the mask slipped, everyone assumed it was just part of the character. And then he left Escapist and got way too full of himself. That's ultimately what did him in, that and constantly talking about the same shit over and over again.

It's kind of consistent in a way because Jim walked out on The Escapist after they refused to censor discussion about GamerGate
Was that why he left the Escapist? I thought he wanted to stay away from sponsors and brand deals and cringe advertising.
I also thought he went indie before GG took off.

Retarded as he is, he somehow made a better decision than 99% of other games journoscum that had an audience back then. Everyone who decided to stay at a major publication and want to strike out on their own in 2025 not only face the hurdle of a more competitive market but also not having a following beyond the ideologically cleansed NPCs who somehow managed to stay unbanned from Kucktaku and Pantygon for 10+ years.

I'm certain it happened after GG started, because I remember being on The Escapist forums at the time and everyone debating what way Yahtzee and Jim were going to go with it (no prizes for guessing MovieBob's stance).

It's possible Jim was already planning to leave for the reasons you stated and the timing just lined up nicely, though. I think FilmRobert was fired around about the same time too.

Jimbo claims that he wasn't allowed to be too negative about Assassin's Creed: Unity in his Tenth Anniversary thingy. Definitely possible, but then again, you'd think Yahteez would have stories about being censored if that was the case, since he was far more openly negative during his time at the Escapist.

The problem with this stuff is Jim being such an unreliable narrator. I can believe he's blacklisted because he's such a toxic asshole and not worth dealing with, but as you point out this is the same website that allowed Yahtzee to do this in 2016:

Yahtzee coud do whatever he wanted on the escapist beacuse he was the only one that was bringing viewership to their website and youtube channel.

I've been thinking about that ZP bit a lot and always thought it'd make for a sick beat.
Around 185 BPM, if you're curious.

I thought he quit because the Escapist wouldn't publish a bad review for a Ubislop game?
