it never will, because "vtubing" is just another "skin" used for servicing a market that's eternal: lonely people. japan capitalizes on services for it, but it's been around the west in different forms, ethots etc. pay money to hear them read it, get them to say your name and happy birthday etc. which honestly since people are perfectly willing to do it for those crumbs of interaction, it's further proof there will always be *something* there. the issue with that market is similar to sex work or therapists though, you're largely not going to get well adjusted people. like a ho might occasionally get a ChadJohn that knows how it works and just wants whatever 20 bucks will get, no talking no kissing etc, but then you'll get a female therapist getting a deranged patient, that over a long period of time starts to stabilize, and transfers those feelings into love and devotion to the therapist which can go very bad very fast.
that said the west has "girlfriend experience" sex optional hos, which supposedly is one of the biggest markets going off discussions with some of the legal bordellos. the east has a whole gamut of shit like idol clubs, paying various attractive people to feign interest and talk with you, "rent a old man to talk to" made headlines a while back too. again, most using stuff like that wind up being people unstable or possibly one day from necking themselves or someone else, so if a kid had a nightmare cheating breakup etc and hires a older experienced woman that knows all about that shit and can empathize and share her experiences, then he can either chin up from it say thank you and move on, or might wind up becoming some flavor of obsessed with that person. one of the core things asian pop idols can't do is be publically ever in a relationship etc lest their fans feel "betrayed" or "cucked" which carries over to vtubing, and because people don't realize that at best all you're going to get is something like markiplier saying "ilovemarkiplier donated 30 bucks, and says id fuck you bloody" very cool, thanks, anyway how bout that slenderman WHOO SCARY", and instead think that, say, pippa is unlike any other girl, and is talking directly to *them*. tuber shares random personal tmi, gets personal with chatters, sometimes flirty, and bam, you've got a small but growing audience of "DONT YOU FUCKING SAY THAT ABOUT MY OSHI YOU WHORE" etc. they don't give a fuck if she vomits in a cabinet and stores it, that shit's fixable, and she never explicitly get in a relationship or flirts directly with anyone outside acceptable limits, so simps remain hooked. the one law that cannot be broken is ever publically getting in a relationship, which vtubing actually is a great aid for because without phonebooking, any tuber can just ""graduate"" and do whatever anonymously. maybe they're going to get railed by the football team while saying they specifically hated you, maybe they were jack septic eye with a voice changer, who fuckin knows.
