I think you're not realizing how utterly betraying Ian's reaction is. Yes, it is scummy to go that low in terms of using things that Ian confided in Ethan or whatever. As others have already said it's unfair to paint Ethan as being malicious and cunning, when he's just responding to how Ian treated him. The same could be said about idubbbz and it would be far more accurate.

Ethan has run defense for Ian constantly. Has promoted CC, brought him on the podcast, defended Anisa, etc. He's done a lot of good for Ian. To say that Ethan was just waiting for the moment to strike seems cruel. He has been backstabbed by one of his best friends, if you watch the original podcast where he learns about it he seems genuinely upset. He wouldn't have cared as much if it was someone else shitting on him. The fact that it was Ian, someone who he has said he has confided in and told about his mental health struggles. Then to see Ian use that against him to try to paint him as crazy and leave him out to dry while people target his kids would make anyone angry.

It's more that Ethan realized that there's no going back now for Ian and I think the betrayal he feels signals to him that there's no reason to leave the door open for reconciliation. He might as well go all out now and end it sooner than drag it out more than it needs.

There is also the matter that Ethan gave Ian multiple chances and he backstabbed him over and over. Didnt defend him on the CPS, did the content cop with his worst enemies, doubled down on content deputy and will do a video with hasan next.

Yeah, Ethan bringing up the IBS clip is a low blow (altho hilarious) and Ian will have a point when he calls it mean spirited in his incoming response but screw it, Ian already made this personal. As much as i have enjoyed him going against Anisa's husband and Hasan, I have to point out something:

He clearly was not that friendly with Ian if he has so much ready to shit on him. No one is so gleeful about ruining an ex friend career. After all, Ian was not directly responsible for CPS, so he is a shitty friend for not defending him, but it is more grey on how angry he should be

Given how insufferable Ian and Anisa seem to be, I do think that they were never truly good friends. More the type of friend you stay in contact with because you don't see that often and don't hate, but also is grating and annoying, but you have known for so long that it is not enough to stop the friendship right now.

Maybe they were once close friends, and then gradually became more and more distant, quietly losing favor with each other without ever voicing it since there was never a reason to. Now that's there's different cliques and sides to choose, the pressure to voice who and what they stand for is on. Maybe Ethan felt particularly vindictive for his family getting dragged in, and saw Ian as someone who could've easily stuck up for them, with Ian being a public online figure who actually visited the household before.
