Just a minor update on the decline of DenFur, one of the top 10 cons in the US. I record it here only because the people running the con appear to be blatantly lying about demand for rooms.
DenFur opened its room block a week ago for the upcoming con in August, and five days later they say they are 60% full and have "NEVER had this kind of response before!" They must mean they've never had such low interest before, because back in 2023 they sold out in under 5 minutes. Now why would they use such misleading wording?
In 2024 the con ended early, there was no parade, and I'm told things generally felt pretty empty. They didn't release attendance numbers until several days afterwards (usually these numbers are revealed during closing ceremonies), and they were 15% lower than the prior year. With this low early demand for 2025, perhaps DenFur is indeed slowly dying.

2025 post trying to sound like there's tons of demand: https://x.com/DenFurCO/status/1918702790844580341 / https://archive.ph/l5du0
2023 post with many comments complaining about being instantly sold out: https://x.com/DenFurCO/status/1658533224388206595 / https://archive.is/Z2QsO
