Furry Convention Drama - Because you can't have a couple thousand dog fucking enthusiasts under the same roof without shit hitting the fan

Just a minor update on the decline of DenFur, one of the top 10 cons in the US. I record it here only because the people running the con appear to be blatantly lying about demand for rooms.

DenFur opened its room block a week ago for the upcoming con in August, and five days later they say they are 60% full and have "NEVER had this kind of response before!" They must mean they've never had such low interest before, because back in 2023 they sold out in under 5 minutes. Now why would they use such misleading wording?

In 2024 the con ended early, there was no parade, and I'm told things generally felt pretty empty. They didn't release attendance numbers until several days afterwards (usually these numbers are revealed during closing ceremonies), and they were 15% lower than the prior year. With this low early demand for 2025, perhaps DenFur is indeed slowly dying.

After sitting through ILoveKimPossibleAlot's absolutely insufferable video I'm inclined to discount both sides until I see reasonable coverage. Maybe he's a rapist. But this video sure proved fuck all. Considering KP brought Courtney Peet on to 'educate' us on consent and in the same five minutes Courtney said implied consent isn't real, a groupie showing their tits to a rockstar is implied consent enough for a consensual encounter, and implied consent isn't real and if it was it's never enough.

i've seen so many false accusations, so many bullshit ones, so many guys who have allegedly done something but the accuser left the planet and never told a soul or even remembered it themselves until the guy got big or there was a reason to ruin his reputation, and so many "like, maybe he's a rapist? idk but i get da bad viiiiiiiiiibes from him, so he must be!" rationalizations that at this point whenever i see an accusation of a man supposedly committing any kind of sex crime, i'm inclined to believe it's false
call it the result of our culture
but i don't buy it, and i'll need a lot more proof to believe it than i need incentive not to

Everything shut down Sunday afternoon, whereas in prior years there was always a dance the last night. Surly hotel employees sweeping all the furries out is a standard con experience, but normally this doesn't happen until past midnight on the last night. DenFur attendees were caught off guard when they were barred from con areas in the afternoon instead.

In fairness, this was not a last-minute change or anything, it just breaks with established patterns from prior years. So when I said it ended early that was perhaps an overly dramatic description.

Probably not. Kage beat the fear of GOD into all the atheistic American furries. They are generally well-behaved at most American cons, at least in terms of damage to the hotels and host facilities. There is an underlying threat of bans for any property damage, such that as soon as word gets out that some kind of damage occurred, there are furries jumping to fix it. Sexual misconduct, drunken bullshit, and other insanity inherent in a bunch of adult-children without supervision tends to be on par with other conventions in terms of the behavior, even if it's more prominent and more prevalent.

I had the funniest Mach-E Moment a month or so ago.

Going to my car at the Costco and there's this lady just... taking pictures of a Mach-E. I sort of jokingly ask if she got all the pictures she needed and she says she's trying to figure out what car this is because she's never seen one before! So I tell her what it is and while I'm loading my non-Mach-E car she's going on about how she'll have her friend the car broker look for one because they're neat looking. I say "Oh, yeah, I guess. They're electric, though." Her eyes go wide. "Oh THANK YOU. I wouldn't want to have accidentally gotten an electric car!"

A fucking aircooled Westie, though? Talk about 'suspiciously wealthy Furries'.

I have only ever seen Mach E "stangs" driven by extremely old elderly women. Also the sound they make creeps me the fuck out like the bad guys in a cyberpunk movie are after me.
