Him celebrating the fact that he has 1.4M followers is akin to Jack Scalfani boasting about his 540K YouTube subscribers. Jack’s videos these days average view counts of <10K (to an audience consisting entirely of hatewatchers), and the only people who leave comments are trolls. Yet, he doesn’t put 2 and 2 together and realize that nearly all of his celebrated 540K subscribers were from the early days of his channel, when people liked him and before YouTube became saturated with more skilled food content creators (like Babish) who quickly eclipsed him.

In both Sunstroke and Jack’s cases, the majority of their followers followed them a long time ago when something they did piqued their interest, and haven’t tuned in in years, completely forgetting them. The only reason they still show up as followers/subscribers is because they’re so disinterested that they don’t even give enough of a shit to take the meager time and effort out of their day to unsubscribe.
