Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

I don't know if it's because 9 out of 10 servers are German and europoors can't into teamplay, but coming back to V from 2042 feels like I'm playing a singleplayer game.

I think you're right. I see green text in the middle of the flag design. Why does the Middle East use the same colors for that?
This is actually a variant of the Egyptian flag used for social programs. It's using the red/white/black color scheme and the text looks to be تحيا مصر(long live Egypt). That text is also used for a lot of social programs done by the current Egyptian president. I looked this up on google:

And if I zoom in on your image in gimp, the characters match up and I even see a tiny bit of the red-white-black on the left.

I think this is probably a fan made fake leak since I don't think the logo is in a public domain but I'd find it really funny if it weren't.

Edit: Considering the other "middle eastern country" screenshots I do think it's meant to be modern Cairo/Egypt.
  • I see the pyramids in the background of one image
  • The grey concrete+red brick """"architecture""""
  • trash in random places
Definitely cairo.

I really haven't played much of 2042 because the last time I tried my internet was really bad and I kept getting disconnected and it also kind of felt like a Chinese free-to-play game compared to V. I want to try it again. But yeah I went back to V again too and it just kind of felt emptier Even though the server was full. I am looking forward to the new one the footage even though early looks fun. The specialists thing just killed 2042 for me. I remember it was crazy in the beta for it that the 64 player matches had way more action than the 128 player ones because the map was smaller.

While you can't do a lot of the parkour from V, 2042 prioritizes movement and vehicles enough to where you never feel alone. Quicker death-to-respawn times also keeps people in the game rather than staring at your killer.

It was such a terrible decision. Locking gadgets/tactics to specific characters was not the way to go.

My issue is the vehicles went from almost like warthunder in 5 to really anemic feeling and lost so much depth in 2042. That really disappointed me. Tanking in 5 was so much fun

There was text chat but you couldn't interact with the enemy team. As for the rest yeah, no server browser, voice chat or scoreboard. People barely use the text chat because of the new TOS (EA records everything and can ban you for saying bad words).
To this day only the Portal mode has a server browser.
Every generation takes away something from the next generation that they themselves enjoyed. The Boomers took away affordable housing. Gen X took away fun, non-political entertainment. And now, Millennials have taken away trash-talking in online multiplayer games.

I miss Battlefield 1 so much. I played it on PS4 and my PS4 died. On PC it seemed like, despite everyone claiming it's very active, it was dead. I can't even enjoy it anymore because I've gotten used to semi-milsim levels of lethality and the slow/deliberate pace of actual bolt action/semi-auto gunfights, but I miss its beautiful maps.

Chopper 1-shotted by rocket launcher

I had to kill one more chopper as the guided RPG lady. You know, the anti-tank lady. It took 3 fucking shots on an almost still-hovering heli to kill it. I always love playing anti-tank classes in BF games because you set out to ruin someone else's life, but to spend 3 fucking shots, having 2 at any given time? To kill a normal transport chopper? God damn.

Battlefield 6 is slated for release for FY 2026, which is around April 1st to March 31st. Notice how they announced a possible release date after the GTA VI delay/release date. Even with a couple months of buffer between the two games, I expect that it would still perform poorer than expected until EA/DIC is anticipating a short term hit.

Im gonna give a short retrospective on the games I've played.

Bad company 1-2: Peak for the destruction gameplay and multiplayer. Undeniably a high favorite. Did not care for the single player but good effort. Only reason id sell it short is it isn't as large scale as traditional battlefield.

Battlefield 3: ok but I hated the multiplayer death animations. Had the best single player though.

Battlefield 4: The best modern day one with the most depth and features. Single player was high budget stupid with an annoying black guy companion you can choose to sacrifice at the end. They fixed the shitty death animations

Hardline: good but forgettable fun. A little too fast paced for battlefield and the single player while interesting, was all over the place quality wise.

Battlefield 1: Very very good. Had a cool idea and some of the best large scale multiplayer of the franchise with a decent amount of destruction. Single player was short and sweet.

Battlefield V: it's the worst one bar none. Even cutting out the woke shit and terrible era/map decisions. They brought back the shitty death animations and made the guns feel like shit. Maybe it's better now but they really did a piss poorly job with it mechanically despite the added fortification features. Single player is the worst of the series, it's literally woke propaganda, ironically the only good mission is the paid Nazi one they patched in later.

Battlefield 2042: I'm a total contrarian and say this was a fun time. Was it stupid? Absolutely. But I enjoyed the GI Joe retardation for a good while. The only thing that killed it for me was a lack of maps. There's no single player.

Honorable mentions

Battlefront 1: I think personally this is my favorite battlefield game behind bad company and 1. It had a fair amount of issues, what with only 40 players and a haphazard item pickup system, but it felt like star wars. It was satisfying to shoot people and cut em up with light sabers. The death star dlc in particular is some of my favorite multiplayer in a while. Customization was decent and the single player while borderline non-existent didn't touch the sequel trilogy. I thought it was refreshing to have an OG trilogy only game.

Battlefront 2: Trash fire, especially on release this game was dogshit and it's barely tolerable now. I played a decent chunk of it I'm sad to say but for all its content it's a huge step back in quality. Guns and lightsabers feel like shit, the graphics look worse, you have to level up every aspect of your character, there's only like 12 guns, single player is a bait and switch "imperial" campaign that leads into the sequels. You can play any hero you want on any map no matter how jarring it is. The one good thing is there actually are a lot of maps with interesting gimmicks, but a lot of times they made the lives and time so low that the game often times out before you get to see or experience everything. The best mode is the large scale galactic assault where they put in bots to fake out a large scale 64 player game. Maybe it's alright on PC with mods but it's just too dam disjointed to be satisfying.

Good news for Battlefield, if the next CoD turns out to be a similar disaster as Black Ops 6 is now, this Battlefield has the potential to siphon those disenfranchised CoD players into their game. But, then again, there's GTA 6 that could be a problem for this Battlefield long term.

According to jackfrags and an alleged insider investor report leak, BF6 will be announced this Summer, and will have a release within Fiscal Year 2026, which is probably going to be late this year.

Kinda hope not personally. Take as much time as is needed to make a good and content-rich game, and don't feel pressured to release early due to GTA 6's launch delay.

I seriously doubt a leak would put it towards an entire year from now, I'm betting it's around October of this year especially to capitalize on the interest from the gameplay testing going on.
I'm not sure what you're getting at. It's in @The Last Stand 's quote: Fiscal Year 2026 runs from April 1st, 2025 to March 31st, 2026. October 2025 falls within that range.

It feels so useless to play as an engineer in BF2042. RPGs do next to no damage at all.
