A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

A part of me loves how Starmer is completely fucked. He can't go any further right as he'd isolate his core voters, he can't go further left or risk losing his centrist voters to other parties and he can't remain exactly where he is because he's getting fucked from all sides.

Not since May have I seen a leader that looked dead in the water, and honestly he's incredibly lucky he had the whole media on his side last Summer because he was on track to be gone ASAP had the Summer of Discontent rattled on further.

I'm going to add something else as well, you know what Kier inherited first of all when he came into power? An overcrowded prison's crisis where capacity was nearly at 100%. You'd think an ex lawyer and ex head of the CPS would be well versed in the justice sector and understand how the police->cps->courts->prison and probation network all link together. You'd think he'd be doing all he can to support a sector that is understaffed, underfunded and at breaking point... instead he raised National Insurance, raised minimum wage and cut Civil Service staffing numbers, so the entire MOJ (which is under the Civil Service by the way) was fucked on three fronts at a time where they needed as many resources as possible to unfuck the situation.

The fucker came in with specialised knowledge and somehow managed to fuck THAT sector. The guy is a complete and utter fucking retard.

Blow to clean energy drive as major windfarm ditched

tl;dr Hornsea off Yorkshire was going to be one of the largest windfarm developments in the world. It's now quite literally dead in the water, thanks to rising costs and cold feet by the suppliers. Nobody wants on-shore windfarms to begin with and all the best sites are already taken, meaning any new installations have to have greater capacity to make up for the shortfall in available energy. Labour staked much of their acceleration to net zero on Hornsea 4, so this cancellation is likely to send that entire policy into a terminal nosedive.
There were also concerns about a wind farm being built off Northumbria going ahead in an area of outstanding natural beauty - hope that too is ditched.

Wales will no doubt axe their plans as well, and hopefully Rathbone PLC (a company owned by Senedd Member Jenny Rathbone, which is currently bullying National Resources Wales into building a wind farm on Tylorstown's old Coal Tip) will be investigated as well.

Starmer is now under pressure to U-turn on the Pensioner's payments, Blair's admitted Net Zero won't work and we still haven't filled Rachel Reeves' black hole (fiscally, of course!)

As @Tom Nook's Gloryhole points out, Starmer is retarded, but also he is stymied and cannot make anything work without it blowing up in his face.

With the general reaction to this India trade deal being almost universally hated by everyone, who do you think he's trying to fuck over here? I've heard whispers that Miliband could try a second run at PM.Yvette Cooper's name always gets raised positively but she's always hopped off the pot when it's time to shit.

Westminster and a good chunk of the public seem to like Streeting quite a lot, although being in health and controlling the NHS will likely lose him any campaign coming up to 2029. Also, no health secretary has ever been Prime Minister.

Jess Phillips gets a lot of cut-through but she'd start hurting the campaign if people were listening to her for weeks on end.
Rachel Reeves? Hilarious. She's more hated than Starmer (if anyone can recognise her).
David Lammy has no career prospects because he's intelligent enough to realise he'll never go higher; hence swanning in the private jets and luxury benefits now.

Miliband seems to be the only one there that voters recognise as a name, could probably put a face to the name (even if it is just: "Fuck, it's the bacon sandwich guy!"). This prospect disappears entirely if we get a power cut at any time between now and 2029. Will trigger the ye olde "back in my day when we last had Labour..." types as well as the zoomers who can't live without an electronic goyjail.

Any other names I might be missing? The current Labour frontbenches are so boring.

EDIT: I didn't even consider polling and a hypothetical election - almost ALL of the people above would lose their seat to Reform or the Tories.

Rayner. She's had ambitions on the leadership since she entered Parliament.
Great shout, but she's gone quiet since July, though. Starmer and her have had a rocky relationship, she was more for Corbyn if I remember. Deputy is always where a PM puts his biggest retard. Dominic Raab was deputy PM for like a year.

She's also got no staff in the Deputy office in-between No. 10 and 11 which is empty. She hasn't been sent out on a media round in weeks at least from what I've been seeing.

Rayner - No chance, completely idiotic and immature, literally begs brownskins to keep her in as MP for Ashton-under-Lyne. Also, Starmer doesn't trust her - she'd be absolutely useless as leader.

Reeves - Again, no chance.

Streeting - The most likely challenger, ambitious and not afraid to be honest about Labour's shortcomings. Has dodgy deals with Big Pharma and is an intolerable cunt.

Miliband (Beaker) - More likely to quit the Cabinet after Blair back-stabbed Net Zero. If he stood down as an MP as well (rumoured he wants to join brother David over in the USA) then his Doncaster North seat would go to Reform UK.

Some outsiders:

Alex Davies-Jones (Pontypridd) - A dyed-in-the-wool feminist, but also somebody who is not a total moron and has stood up for abused women and also criticised central Government for not doing enough for flood prevention programmes in her constituency. A bit like Trump, in that she'll mouth off in the heat of the moment, but at least she has the balls to do that.

Craig Williams (Montgomeryshire) - A recent addition, but also a strong socialist who has the temerity to go against Starmer. Said to be liked by his constituents and is more interested in local affairs and community than his peers.

Apart from that, can't think of anybody!

Oh, guess who's back on GB News...

Surprise to literally no one. it’s now officially confirmed the illegals are costing more than they thought.

We're fucked.

Also, we now need to spend more money on housing lags in Prisons:

Labour: 'There will be 14,000 more spaces by 2031'

We need at least 53,000 now though?
Labour: 'There will be 14,000 more spaces by 2031'

Automaton Party doing Automaton Things...

Can we send some of these to the USA?

The Redwall Caucus is having a meeting today to discuss Starmer. I would kill to be a fly on the wall and hear those conversations. These MPs are the ones who tend to call Starmer out, and they are not happy.

This meeting was raised by a columnist on The Times podcast. I just have this feeling in my bones that something is coming down the line. Starmer is an idiot for pissing off Cooper though because she is one of the few of the cabinet in Westminster that is "respected".

The bizarre thing about Starmer is that he doesn't seem to have... anything. Like he's got decades of experience in doing things but he genuinely feels like a robot in a flesh suit that appeared out of nowhere. A boring stable PM works fine as a transitional leader but at some point he needs to show some fire or be replaced.

I'd actually respect him if he came out and completely ripped into the saboteurs in the Labour party who would prefer a Reform government over bending just ONE of their policies that they're dead set on, like trannies or Palestine.

Moving quickly on from a story is the standard fallback when a media outlet can't manipulate the narrative in the way they would like. See last week's election coverage. I think this is a good thing as it demonstrates the decline in their power.

Two polls came out this morning, both showing Reform picking up another 2-3% directly from the Tories compared with last week's surveys from the same outlets. This is not surprising considering last week's results - it is likely that a number of small-c conservatives who had been sticking with the Tories out of a belief that they were the better electoral prospect where they live now have proof that, in most places, this is no longer true, and have switched preferences accordingly.

Badenoch's hourglass is now running very short. In theory she has another 6 months' protection but events may override that.

One of the developments they're putting up for housing illegals is in Huddersfield.

Yes,you read right. Huddersfield. A huge housing development full of young, fighting age, inclined men is going to be put in a town with a massive student population.

That's going to end with yet more rapes and sexual assaults, isn't it?

And £4million a DAY? That is absolutely obscene. £28 million a week to house people who have no right to be here who entered the country illegally who will be allowed to stay by spineless judges. That's just for just housing .Not fold, clothing, free to them bus passes, private dental care. That's just to keep a roof over their heads.

We need @JosephStalin to run one of his special missions.

A man whose dismembered body was found in a suitcase had raped and blackmailed a teenager, a court has heard.

The remains of Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, were found in a suitcase and trunk left near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol in July 2024, having been taken there from London.

At the trial of Yostin Mosquera, who is accused of murdering and dismembering the two men, a witness told the court he had been blackmailed by Mr Alfonso in exchange for sexual "favours".

Colombian national, Mr Mosquera, 35, denies both murders but has admitted the manslaughter of Mr Alfonso.
Using the pseudonym James Smith, the witness told the jury at the Old Bailey he was about 17 or 18 years old when he first met Mr Alfonso, nearly 20 years ago.

Giving evidence via video link, he said he had gone to Mr Alfonso's flat for drinks after a rugby match and waking up with a "banging headache".

When Mr Smith asked 'what's happened?', Mr Alfonso showed him a video of himself performing sex acts on Mr Smith.

"I didn't know what to do. I was mortified. At this point I didn't know my sexuality - I was confused and scared," he told the court.

"[Being a] black boy in London, gay, whether you were drunk or not - it didn't matter."

He said Mr Alfonso told him he was "not going to show anyone" and if he did "favours" for him, the video would never be shared.
I for one am shocked, shocked at this revelation that a faggot into extreme sex was also a fucking blackmailing rapist.

The problem is the Neo-Lib media think the story will be forgotten in 2 days, but with how tenacious the internet media is, it enables the Streissand effect, and they do it every single time.

So that Redwall caucus is pretty major as it consists of 45 MPs.

In PMQs there was no mention of Reform or the Lib Dems' victory. Also, India attacked Kemi and said she offered the tax breaks to them.
