To be totally fair, BPD on its own can also make it hard to figure out what is and isn't a true crisis. A lot of the dramatic bullshit comes from your limbic system not being able to differentiate between minor issues and true crises, kind of like if your body sent the same signals when you stub your toe vs. getting it crushed by a truck. You've got to learn not only how to ignore the alarm bells screaming that everything that matters to you is about to be destroyed because your partner got a little snappy, but also how to filter out the signal from the noise, and prioritize things that are truly important rather than wasting your time on shit that won't matter to you in four hours.
That can be a challenge even if you aren't slow-in-the-mind. Someone like Zoey is probably always going to need a wrangler to handle major priorities, like keeping a roof over her head and making certain that nothing growing in her sink becomes more self-aware than she is and starts building a whole-ass civilization, with a rich history and beautiful culture.
As she happily reports, she doesn't have Bi-Polar. If you're referring to borderline, which has a hell of a lot of overlap with Bi-Polar, I still don't know if she fits the bill.
Both versions of bpd, borderline and bi-polar, are incurable but entirely managable. But you rarely ever have one disorder, so things can get tricky to juggle, the medication for one may aggravate the other, etc.
The reality is that she is autistic (level 2, as she reports), but not low functioning, schizoaffective but mildly self aware (though I suspect there is a muted empathy center in there). In addition to this, she is monumnetally stupid, like, not in the lol she dumb way. Like take the fork away from her before she sticks it in the outlet for the third time in a row way. In addition, she had a tremendously bad upbringing, effectively hobbled and was not taught self care or how to fend for herself. The Internet raised her, to her detriment.
That being said, even if she was given free meds, food and housing, she isn't capable enough to maintain it or herself. So yeah, if she doesn't get leashed sooner or later, if she thinks things are bad now, she ain't seen nothin' yet.
