Zoomer Kiwi Central / Serious Gen Z Discussion - A place for Zoomers or Non-Zoomers to have a discussion about the Gen Z and their future

Zoomers are generally messed up because they’re rootless. 99.9% of all the good things in the world are old things that have been renovated and augmented a thrembillion times, and everything good today can arguably be seen as an improved or modified version of something that existed thousands of years ago.
At least, that’s what I’d like to be able to say with certainty. At least most of the worst excesses of this generation and of their father’s generation- pornography, drug addiction, nihilism, wigger fashion (it’s far worse than most people think), etc are new to this world and have not been seen before in this form.

Watched a documentary on Industrial Light & Magic. They literally pulled losers out from their mom's basement, like literally, and gave them houses and shit just to come work on Star Wars, and they did it poorly at first, but they kept at it.

Today? You gotta produce a 22 minute full feature indie film to get an unpaid internship. Pixar's early days you could be the guy modelling trees in the background because you happened to talk to the director at McDonalds or fucking whatever. EVERYTHING is refined and perfected. Like getting into a competitive game 11 years after it peaked rather than being one of the few who risked it all to be a first-mover in Overwatch or whatever.

And yet all this modern pixar shit and their stupid film industry is shit from crop to tail.
My instinct is that it’s probably a case of ‘why do people make it good’ instead of ‘how do people make it good’, and I think it’s because of a rootless new mindset that is just professionalism and effort for it’s own sake.

People love to talk about how Chris Metzen went into an interview to be a programmer, knowing no programming, and ended up being a concept artist, hired initially for his personality. He then retired (and later unretired) as the 'uncle of Blizzard' father-figure, doing no actual work but just walking around stimulating culture. Imagine that: You slaved for tens of years to work at a low wage at your dream company while a literal washed-up loser is walking around, having made a career from the basic fact he was born into an easier life than you. When you could pull up the bootstraps cause an indian wasn't the next in line with 50 times the skills at half the pay.

Ironically I'm watching a college/high school documentary right now with surprisingly mature kids, yet thinking their lives are over cause of low grades or no pussy in those 3 years it spanned. I feel like that's the two extremes today's youth are facing: Absolute hopelessness while seeing enough (born into success) friends of theirs make it into great universities and jobs. Plenty of folk still just get a 3-year blue collar certification but even those aren't guaranteed literal labor jobs, breaking their bodies in by 28.

I had it rough compared to those that came before me but god damn do kids got it worse than I did also, somehow. It's all going down the shitter.

I agree, I worded the other post wrongly. However, part of me feels that we need people who are specialists in child psychology. I went to a rough middle school and some of those kids had legitimate mental health problems, not normal middle school problems, like something was very wrong with them mentally.
Send them to schools that are equipped to deal with that (not residential schools) and community-based intervention programs. I don't think that should exempt them from consequences. You don't want to fuck up the kids any more than you would in a psych ward, unless it's a violent drooling tard. Basically a partial program. We need to make partial program more accessible to those who need them. I agree 100% with the last parts of your post, but you also have to be careful that these kids don't end up in the pipeline of the troubled teen industry. Residential treatment centers are fraudulent and full of pedos and child abuse.
I feel like getting specialists who can do and actually know what they do should be brought into public schools. Never went to a public school, so my knowledge is limited, but another controversy with the local schools is our specialists often coddle instead of work. They created a PBIS room at one of the elementary schools, which came down to the kid who destroyed the classroom, scratched a student's face, and charged the pregnant teacher, gets to play in there and write an apology letter. I'm also of the obvious theory that inclusion is meant to save money instead of making separate life skills classes, they removed that at the very same elementary school so now everyone is being neglected education wise, tards and nontards. Tards are overwhelmed, the regular kids are overwhelmed, teachers are overwhelmed, and oh, let's add the recent Afghani migrants who can't speak English into the classroom without ESL teachers or aides with them. Fun.

I read a lot about the troubled teen industry and many of the stories are heartbreaking. I'm always of the belief, you should punish your child instead of being overly gentle and set firm boundaries and expectations, but don't scream at them for the littlest things, or ship them away to a remote place where they can have crap dumped on them Elan styled. Whenever my dad was bad as a teenager, my grandfather would threaten to send him to schools like Elan (shitty parenting move), even though all the worst my dad did was smoke and backtalked. Made sense when my great aunt when she was alive, bless her kind soul, referred to my grandfather as a bull, and my great uncle has way less kind words to describe him.
tiktok reallly did a number on these lil brains of theirs
TikTok did play a huge role in the declining attention span. Having many apps and streaming services at your fingertips for entertainment really reduces the attention span, I would argue stories also had a role along with Snapchat, even though I believe you could save messages on the latter, the rapid back and forth in my opinion also played a role. It's been a long time since I used snapchat anyways.

The proverbial frontier of technology and media is not just gone but now is the time of extreme oversaturation and unnatural competition. I come from a place of being told "you need to be unique" or "you need to overachieve" just cause theres at least a 1000 people who could replace me in an instance in all spheres of life, from jobs to dating. It is depressing to hear "hey, if you fuck up, theres 1000 people to take your place so you may as well give up now if you cant handle the pressure", it has affected my mindset a lot and combined with the weight of generational achievements (a 15 year old in 1910 would be more educated articulate skilled and whatnot than a 25 year old today, theres the underage geniuses of the past) fucks me up. I dont want to blame anybody cause its probably my fault, I should be better instead of trying to abscond responsibility but I definitely wish I was born 50 years earlier when things were less fucked and survival was relatively easier as paradoxical as that sounds.

>Bakugan
>Pokemon
>Digimon
>Yu-Gi-Oh
>Beyblades
>Nintendo

It’s funny just how much Japan influenced my childhood without me realizing. I’m sure there are others I am missing

Edit: Forgot Gundam and Eyemaze
I remember Bakugan being very brief at my school and them getting banned because everyone was stealing. Other than that, I really remember the Pokemon games, my dad banned the anime because he hated how the Pokemons repeated their own names, and Ash really pissed him off. For Nintendo, I really enjoyed my DS, and the wii was fun even though I wound up neglecting it pretty fast.

You guys remember smencils? They all smelled wretched, but having them in elementary school made you the cool kid pretty much instantly

Also any zoomers remember the release nights for the classic CODs or Halos?
Halo 2 was something else. Literally everybody knew what it was, even somebody like your distant family relative that wasn't aware of the fact that videogames progressed past the point of Atari consoles. I think it achieved a world-record (temporary? can't remember) in advertisement spending for a piece of interactive media. Incredible.

The most harrowing experience I've had as a zoomer was being a lazy, retarded gorilla nigger the entirety of my undergrad (don't do that btw) only to get put into a group for a capstone project senior year and realize that I was somehow the most competent one there.
When I think about the two group members who stopped showing up halfway through the semester (their only actual contributions before that all ai slop), the fact that they both landed jobs makes me believe that we got 5 years at most before the competency crisis boils over. I'm absolutely terrified about the next generation that'll have access to AI shit from elementary school and how they'll turn out. Maturing was realizing my parents were right about not giving me a phone till high school and it's only gonna get worse from here.

Lastly, this has been said before, but HOLY FUCK are zoomers shit at technology. I'm not asking for people to be a bash pro, but you should at least know how to use fucking file explorer. Kids these days never had to delete META-INF to install minecraft mods and it shows.

I loved my Smencil! Even though like many things, they got banned by my school but smuggling them in made you really cool.

Group projects in university really sucked, and I often had to wrangle them into doing their fair share of the work or the professor would have failed all of us. Taught me that it's very similar with workplaces with someone worthless dragging everyone down though. Parents letting their five year olds being babysat by character.ai, is going result in negative consequences. I don't hate ai, but I do worry that how these children are going to react when you can't regenerate actual text messages, or swipe on conversations that are going wrong until you get a response you like.

Yes, the teen was retarded and already suicidal before he used character.ai, and his mom should have hidden the gun, but many little kids will have trouble telling reality apart. What I truly blame are the parents not teaching their children how to use technology and how to use it properly. Older boomers, I understand they may not understand it, younger boomers, gen x, and even though millennials are parents to alphas, they should know better to teach their child responsibility on the internet. With late gen z and gen alpha receiving phones in elementary school, and being raised on tablets, it's going to get worse.

Millennial here. At work, I love the zoomers. They are open-minded, hard working and seem to care. Fellow millennials are generally the worst. Set-in-their ways and refuse to acknowledge when they do a subpar job. Always blaming others.

I will say social media zoomers make me want to kill myself, but basically everybody who uses social media is annoying in some way.

This might be TMI but I figure it pertinent to the zoomer discussion:

As a 2001 Zoomie, I have always felt like I stood with a toe in each faction among a totally fractured generation. I was raised alongside the Internet, but I was never immersed from birth. I saw our culture go insane right around 2015, which was timed directly in the middle of puberty and totally destroyed gender relations before they could even develop for a large number of my peers. I graduated in 2019, the last batch of socialized kids before covid wrecked that too. I used to hang around the older kids, but have since dealt with and befriended the younger zoomers as I postponed university until I found a useful major to pursue. Point being: I see the seams which stitch my generation together, and the difference between them is so large, I wouldn't even consider them comparable.

You have guys who were told "sit still, be quiet, you're not wanted, you're not needed" their whole lives becoming uncooperative and misogynistic as a natural response. You have girls who excelled in female-led school, pursue female-led jobs, and understandably feel disappointed at the men around them who never seemed to grow up. You have older Zoomers funneled into CS majors disgusted at "digital nomads" who are oblivious to anything outside the iOS walled garden. This doesn't even touch on the more prominent race differences or the LGBT chasm which has effectively established a nameless state religion which half of zoomers subscribe to.

The worst part about it all is how each pocket blindly dismisses anything from the others. I have to hold my tongue when people force "they/it" pronouns into speech, but I have to hide my love of art and cute things when around right wing chuddies because it's "troon-coded." I'm tired of pussyfooting around my views of history, politics and philosophy to avoid getting cancelled, but I can't even embrace like-minded individuals because they are often some of the biggest losers in the world who just happen to share my beliefs because it absolves them of responsibility for their own shitty lives.

I was born normal, but normal doesn't exist anymore.

I also felt rather distant from younger zoomers, I always wound up talking to older people as well since I wasn't raised on the internet and immersed in it from a young age. I didn't notice the gender divide in person until I went to university since my school was all boys. The gender war autism has always been annoying to me, I always ignore it and view to be mostly online, even though it was quite obviously there in university.

I noticed the race issue really took off during 2014, it was there during the Zimmerman-Martin incident, but I felt that the Ferguson riots really really changed everything. The whole debate, claiming that Brown was innocent when it was quite clear that he was indeed stealing, and charging a cop. But they kept the gentle giant narrative. Again, my school was mostly white so I didn't notice again until I went to university how the race divide was, and how some professors stoked it, one of them having clear different expectations for the white and the black students.

I always wind up rolling my eyes whenever at my workplace there is something about diversity, because the only minorities we have are like two jeets and one Lebanese so it feels extremely awkward to go through it constantly, plus the latter really hates it. Not surprised the backlash it caused among zoomers, especially the younger ones who experienced the most of the preaching. When community like churches and unions die out, many of these zoomers are clinging to whatever is out there whether it's the rainbow cult, tate cult, etc. I cannot discuss religion or history anymore either, because it always becomes the same meltdowns. I'm always falsely seen as some based trad because I defended some aspects of a religion, or I'm seen as some radical based atheist who makes people seethe, because I said something critical of another religion when in reality I'm neither, and always described myself as curious of religion and having an affinity for the beauty Orthodoxy, Catholicism, and to an extend Buddhism. It's like we can't even discuss history anymore without someone melting down.

Zillenials were the peak of the technology age
I was going to say, it depends on the age of the Zoomer.
I was born in 2000, I’m good enough at tech despite being a chimpanzee. Then I meet someone a few years younger and they don’t know how to do anything like install ad-blockers, convert file formats, zip and unzip files, turn on the computer, etc.

I noticed that too in young graduates/starters. It's a toss between autistic savants and braindead idiots in terms of computers skills. Apparently most of the country has already transitioned to fully digital education from regular lessons to testing at the secondary education level. Pen and papers has seemingly been phased out completely.

It seems like the digital transition only led the youths to become worse with computers as I have morons who cannot convert a Word doc into a PDF. It's strange because they aren't actually immune to learning, it's just that they never did it before and cannot learn it without a person showing it at least once. This makes me seriously question whether young people are even using AI assistants.

I still have a few of these. They were always very rough to the touch, and I barely write with them, but they were fun.

We Zoomies can use file explorer lole

This is false. I'm well in the middle in terms of tech skills; I'm terrible at coding but I know how to convert Word docs into PDFs, navigate file systems, reset my router, make Powerpoints and Excel graphs, time subtitles, torrent, and other basic skills. Most other zoomies are the same way.
