Tyler Chase Butler was arrested on several charges, including second-degree murder, in the death of Michael Bosworth Jr.

Virginia teenagers said they were recording a ding-dong ditch prank for a TikTok video when a homeowner opened fire, killing an 18-year-old boy.

The homeowner, Tyler Chase Butler, was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the death of Michael Bosworth Jr. It's not clear whether Butler has an attorney.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. Saturday, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Deputies were sent to a home near McKenzie Lane in the Washington, D.C., suburb following a call for a residential burglary in progress, in which a resident had fired shots.

Bosworth and another person had gunshot wounds, the sheriff's office said. Bosworth was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. The other person, a juvenile, was treated and released. A third juvenile with them was unharmed, authorities said.

Butler, 27, told investigators that he believed the teens were trying to break into his home, NBC Washington reported.

According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by NBC News, one of the teens told detectives that they were recording ding-dong ditch pranks for a TikTok video, in which they ring people's doorbells and then run away. The teen said that they had been to a couple of homes in the neighborhood and that he was not familiar with the area.

"The juvenile stated that they had run to hide. The juvenile said as they were running from a residence, he and his friends were shot at," the affidavit says.

The other teen gave a similar account and told detectives that he had a video on his phone of them doing the prank earlier that day, according to the affidavit.

Bosworth was a senior at Massaponax High School. He was killed hours before the school prom.

"School counselors will be on site at the event to provide support as needed," the school district said in a letter to the school community. "Also, when students return to school on Monday, our counseling staff and additional division support team members will be available to provide support to our students and staff as needed. If your child needs support, please contact the school so that we can provide assistance. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time."

Butler is being held in Rappahannock Regional Jail on no bond.

While I don't think you should be playing that game in this day and age the reaction was still total overkill. You don't shoot at someone who is running away from you. If the teen really was running away that's gonna look real bad in court. This guy deserves what he gets for being trigger happy.

On the other hand they were filming a TikTok prank video so they deserved it. If enough retards get killed while filming prank videos they'd stop.

Why the fuck were they playing Ding Dong Ditch at 3AM? Sure, the guy shouldn't have shot them of course. But, when you do that shit at 3AM don't be surprised if that freaks out some people.

I think they seemed to have forgotten the "Ditch" part. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the TikTok trend was to record yourself kicking the door in, not just ringing the bell. If the homeowner had time to get to his weapon and respond, something tells me it wasn't just "kids being kids".

Took a look on Google Maps at the neighborhood and it looks like a nice suburban community. Although funny that they'd call it a suburb of DC, it's half way to Richmond, if traffic hasn't gotten better in the last two decades that's like an hour to DC. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, given how shitty Richmond is, I wouldn't blame shooting assholes at the door at 3am, just in case. Oh and Richmond is a violent shithole, don't go there if you don't have to, there's better places to visit in Virginia. Like literally anywhere else, except maybe Norfolk.

Sounds like they were casing houses for burglaries earlier in the day, then went back at 3am to rob the houses they picked.

No one does ding dong ditch at 3am. The vast majority of people don't answer the door at 3am. What were they planning to film, a bunch of doors with no one answering them?
One article I read said he shot out of his back door, not the front. If that was the case the kids where def trying to rob shit and FAFO.

3AM + Washington DC + ding-dong-ditch?

I really don't care if these teens got ventilated, they were kind of asking for it, even if the homeowner is in the wrong for shooti-
