I actually felt a twinge of sympathy that his fans weren't more receptive to those. From what others have said, not only was he enjoying himself, he was also fairly knowledgeable about the game. If those had taken off, Phil would have been happier, his fans would have been happy to watch their master and the detractors would have laughed at the fact that he'd be spending even more on WWEC than he normally does. Everyone would have won.
This is always a pet peeve of man because Phil...
So here is where you realize how much Phil fucking sucks as a content curator. WWEC is a game he enjoys and is happy about, but he couldn't make it stick. Why? I want to point to a couple things:

He doesn't actually come across as knowledgeable about the game. I know it was confusing for all of us that for once DSP was able to talk about something other than "smooth 60fps" or "the graphics look HD" but if you really look at it, everything he says about WWEC's """"""gameplay""""""" boils down to "oh this character sucks", "oh we have to do this bullshit level but it's fine because we overbuffed our sweatyman", "oh this skin used to be good but now it sucks".

As someone who watches other gachaslop, other streamers for other gacha games talk about "here's a build that you can use with this character that can last you for a long time", "here's the most optimal way you can get the most pulls for this event with your F2P stuff", etc. In reality, other content creators for predatory gachaslop thrive on making content for the F2P crowd. I don't know if that's possible or not for WWEC but Phil I imagine never actually plays the F2P side of that game, he only dumps as much money in it so he can overlevel and get the sweatyman with the best moves and top the event. That's all well and good if his content was about continuously doing pulls until he gets shiny new sweatyman of the week, but he's unable to do that because he didn't use DFTR AND he monetized the pulls so that he'll only do a megapull for a big tip.

Because Phil is a fucking idiot and has no sense for entertainment or content at all.
Yeah this. Like it kinda makes me sad the detractor community pushes this idea that he was knowledgeable. Because anyone who gets like deep deep into a game could tell you the way he talked about things was shallow as fuck. I don't even know gacha, but I rotate warhammer and POE videos every night. And if any of those ever told me "this thing is good because it did well in the meta". I would mail them a fucking spoon.

But more damning, yet again, is what it says about Phil. That WWEC stood out so much for how he talked about games. He didn't even talk about Street Fighter like that. All he knows to talk about in that is Safe and Priority. So not only is he just completely mentally stunted. The only thing he can even talk about in the game that made him is the start of an offense. The level one of street fighter if you will.

Would you sacrifice 8 hours a day to play games you hate and be made fun of by everyone? Not for one day but to do the same thing for 10 years?

Oh no, having to sacrifice 8 hours a day doing something you dont like for 10+ years to make money!? So like... any other fucking job? (8 hours is generous, phil ''''works'''' maybe 5 hours a day)

Its a weird cope to pretend his job isnt cushy as fuck. The reason he is miserable is because of his own bad spending habits, inability to plan for the future, and toxic personality. I wouldnt want phils life, but his specific job would be tempting, Its not even a money thing, I make roughly the same as phil, but I work more than 8 hours a day eating shit from boomer bosses and retarded clients. It would be pretty fucking nice to roll out of my bed whenever the fuck I want and just play games all day.

Difference is Phil needs to literally beg people in order to survive. I’m not too thrilled about my job, but at least it’s dignified.

Am I the only one who thinks Phil played the gay Kingdom game that every nerd drama streamer talked about a month ago for attention? I think he thought since it was getting ripped on so much, him shit talking it would go viral. He did the same thing with the "so I'm non-binary" tranny game which he also bailed on because it was boring as fuck, he waited too long for it to be relevant, and he's too cowardly to actually make any jokes. I see you scheming, piggy.

I take it you and some others in this thread have never met ridiculously wealthy yet ridiculously unhappy people? I have. Money isn't all its cracked up to be. Especially not when you're saddled under debt and a debilitating gambling addiction.

Would you sacrifice 8 hours a day to play games you hate and be made fun of by everyone? Not for one day but to do the same thing for 10 years? If you were doing that would you be drowning your sorrows in a bottle of gin and trying to find the answers to life at the bottom of a bottle?
I mean the difference is I enjoy video games and like to think despite being an autist I'm still a decent and occasionally funny guy so I wouldn't be miserable like DSP is.

The hard part of Phil's "job" is having a total lack of empathy and shame.

Everything else and it'd be a cake walk we'd all enjoy getting paid for.
Wrong. The hard part of Phil’s job is the semi-constant backlash from his rep and behavior, and his audience, two elements he is completely responsible for. If he did not lash out at everyone he would not cultivate either a group of people who want to see him angry or suffering because it’s funny to them, nor another group of insane autist sex pests, if he would be consistent about sweeping out freaks whether or not they’re giving him money.

Being a streamer has its challenges that other more traditional work may not have, but Phil turns those difficulties into insurmountable obstacles because of who he is.

He loses the battle against himself on a daily basis, and you can see it in everything he does.

Interesting analogy. Y'know I heard LTG's girlfriend just left him because he asked her for a golden shower. I wonder if the scatology style humour annoys Kat enough that she'll leave.
Even worse, what if she's into it and gave Phil the idea of what to do with a spoon? (yes the image of Phil bent over giddily laughing while Khet shoves a spoon up there popped into my head so now all of you have to suffer with me)

Phil tried building a new WWE Champions character, but he never understood the point. He just complained about needing to grind to level up and given the right to spend hundreds of dollars. He doesn't even consider that 99.9% of players are viewers playing along are not going to do that for a shitty Bejeweled, and that grind is the game until you hit the paywall and finally quit. As Phil said about TJGamebox who is basically a F2P player, he's "not playing the real game". And as you say, Phil can't use DFTR for bankruptcy purposes, so he can't promote himself as the high roller either, not that there's a market for that content in this game anyway beyond a guy or two hired by Scopely to sell shit and Phil missed out on those opportunities.

Well most people aren't dented lolcows so this wouldn't matter, imagine caring what retards you dont even know on the internet think about you or what you are doing, if you like video games Phil has a dream job, but what makes him a lolcow is he really really cares what people on the internet think of him, and he somehow fumbles the bag while holding the bag every single day, he has a dream job and could have a dream life but instead he took on a ton of debt for no reason, went bankrupt, and lives a miserable boring existence. Every single thing that makes him miserable at this point is his choice, and the way he reacts to it is hilarious.

Thing is, Phil doesn't need to do that. Or at least, he didn't need to. Phil was always incredibly lucky with his audience supporting him in a way that put even some of the bigger streamers to shame. Despite not reaching anywhere near their numbers, Phil was pretty high on the top 10 list for number of gifted subs, and even higher for tier 3 subs specifically. I'd argue that success was largely in spite of his begging, not because of it. The big thing is, Phil wrote off the majority of his genuine fans who, for reasons I'll never understand, actually enjoyed his content. But because they were only donating smaller amounts, he wrote them off and eventually drove them away. And much like with his Champions existed, he failed to realize how those smaller amounts could quickly snowball into a significantly bigger total over time.

Phil's always been greedy and begged far more than necessary, typically while painting himself as some helpless victim, but his levels pre-vest streak were much lower compared to today. And...he was still making good money back then. I don't know if it was necessarily more/less than present day Phil, but it was still an easy six figures. Once he started setting daily goals for his channel, that's when he basically resigned himself to being a beggar, because there wasn't even the illusion his streams were about anything else besides hitting those tip/sub goals.

I don't think Phil could have ever become a "mainstream" streamer, but if he hadn't gotten so greedy I think there's a world where Phil continued to be a weird niche streamer on Twitch, still comfortably making six figures. Although even in that world, I'm sure Phil would find a different way to sabotage himself and drive away his audience, because as always, Phil is his own worst enemy.

If the Quartering was able to make a damn good living being fat and sperging about MTG, the only thing stopping Phil from making a damn good living being fat and sperging about vidya is Phil. Given how many people who were part of GG and how many of them spun throwing fits over toys into houses and sex and drugs and whatever else, he should have dropped his nuts on the table back in 2013-2014 and stuck it out, but he wouldn’t have been able to survive a single day of the bantz that came with it. Shame.

Yes, but if Phil wasn't a lolcow, he would have lost this ~6 figure income about a decade ago. He's an objectively terrible streamer.

It's hard to say what I would do in Phil's position. He could be like Wings, stream less and take the big $ opportunities that come along, however he's still a lolcow and obviously unhappy doing it. The best option would have been to do something else once Youtube dried up and semi-retired. But, that's also easier said than done. The only reason he got Leanna and Kat is because of that internet fame and money. He'd have to wisely save and invest his money, which he's too stupid to do. And Phil would be a weird ugly oddly shaped head incel like all of his chat now.
