I don't know why people are saying that there aren't any good female characters in video games. I grew up with a ton of them and I can name a bunch of them off the top of my head. So let's gush over them!

Jade from Beyond Good and Evil. There's some pretty awesome creation backstory to her about how the game's creators wanted to make a "real woman" character as opposed to the usual "sexy action woman." But in the game alone, she's just fucking awesome, sneaking around being all seditious with her camera and taking care of orphans and having a pig with rocket boots for an uncle. (Jesus christ this game is so underrated it kills me)

Ayla from Chrono Trigger. She does a shit-ton of damage when you team her up with Chrono, she manages to be a blonde in a fur bikini without coming across as pure fanservice, she has that fucking adorable running animation, and she leads an entire tribe of cavepeople who like to party. Lucca is also cool, but she doesn't tear apart dinosaurs with her bare hands, so...

Midna from Twilight Princess. Zelda games have always had some pretty awesome female characters, but I think Midna easily is one of the best characters in any of the games. She has that whole mischievous woobie thing going for her, the language she speaks is fucking adorable, and unlike most of the other companion characters in Zelda games she actually serves a purpose beyond "hey listen!" (although I also like Tatl and even Navi. Don't hate.)

Ellie from Last of Us instantly comes to mind. She's a prime example of a strongly written female character. She doesn't feel like a male character who just had her gender swapped or an empty palette the player can simply project a personality on, but an actual fleshed out female character where her gender is acknowledged by the way others treat her in the story as well as shaping some of the things she experiences herself, without her gender becoming her sole defining characteristic.

I always liked Alena from Dragon Quest IV, if you haven't played it yet she's the same flavor of badass as Arya Stark from Game of Thrones/ASoIaF, she's very similar to her actually.

Edit: Not to mention she kicks ass being a monk-type build and has the highest crit rate. Good strength and agility too.

Princess Peach from the Mario games, for being a well-written character with good character development and for showing kids that women can drive. And still be fabulous. She's sending an important message and really influenced my childhood.

How about Rayne from Bloodrayne?

Bitch be packin double MP40s, yo.

...You're going to bring up Princess Peach and not even mention the fact that she can fucking levitate?

She can do a lot of stuff that she totally isn't dressed for. It's kind of boss if you think about it.

I see the feminism thread was locked, I posted some pictures there, the first one I posted was Riven the Exiled from League of Legends

Riven_0.jpg

Her back story
In Noxus, any citizen may rise to power regardless of race, gender, or social standing - strength is all that matters. It was with committed faith in this ideal that Riven strove to greatness. She showed early potential as a soldier, forcing herself to master the weight of a long sword when she was barely its height. She was ruthless and efficient as a warrior, but her true strength lay in her conviction. She entered battles without any trace of doubt in her mind: no ethical pause, no fear of death. Riven became a leader amongst her peers, poster child of the Noxian spirit. So exceptional was her passion that the High Command recognized her with a black stone rune sword forged and enchanted with Noxian sorcery. The weapon was heavier than a kite shield and nearly as broad - perfectly suited to her tastes. Soon after, she was deployed to Ionia as part of the Noxian invasion.

What began as war quickly became extermination. Noxian soldiers followed the terrifying Zaunite war machines across fields of death. It wasn't the glorious combat for which Riven trained. She carried out the orders of her superiors, terminating the remnants of a beaten and fractured enemy with extreme prejudice. As the invasion continued, it became clear that the Ionian society would not be reformed, merely eliminated. During one bitter engagement, Riven's unit became surrounded by Ionian forces. They called for support as the enemy closed in around them. What they received instead was a barrage of biochemical terror launched by Singed. Riven watched as around her Ionian and Noxian alike fell victim to an unspeakably gruesome fate. She managed to escape the bombardment, though she could not erase the memory. Counted dead by Noxus, she saw an opportunity to start anew. She shattered her sword, severing ties with the past, and wandered in self-imposed exile - on a quest to seek atonement and a way to save the pure Noxian vision in which she believed.

''There is a place between war and murder in which our demons lurk.''
That's right, her huge ass sword which alone made her awesome? She FUCKING BROKE IT to symbolize her new freedom. So when she fights she's only using a tiny part of the sword, and she still kicks ass.

And none of you league players bring up her ONE "sexy skin" that was fan requested.

The Goat from Goat Simulator, yes the creators confirmed her to be a girl. She is a strong female character in that she is indestructable and doesn't let her gender get in the way of causing chaos and destruction to a small podunk town. Plus, she becomes queen of the goats and gets summoning abilities and gets a lot of other abilities too.

Kreia from KOTOR 2: AKA the "Anti Yoda" and the most badass old lady ever

While her deconstruction of the entire "force" concept and the jedi/sith in general might seem slightly cliched and pretentious, she is nonetheless the first decent in-universe critic of the star wars mythos and a delightfully complex and unique character who comes out neither good nor evil but something more, just like every Nietzchian Ubermench should

Plus the fact she is an elderly lady means she is utterly unburdened by over-sexualisation or attempts to titilate the audience, and instead is awesome entirely due to her character

AHD_Clem_Preview.png

Clementine from The Walking Dead.

She is not some annoying kid that you have to chase everytime in some games that depict children. Clem has a personality that you end up someway caring about her. While she knows in some ways how to take care of herself, you (as Lee) still need to protect her from zombies and hostile survivors.

And in Season 2, she is the main protagonist of the game. I had some doubts when I first heard about it, but Telltale made a good job in making Clementine not someone just to care about, but someone that you want to stay alive. (all those death scenes of zombies eating her ohgoooooooood).

and if telltale ends up killing her in the end of season 2 i gonna flip my shit
