Battlefield General - Discuss the series here

Battlefield 2042: I'm a total contrarian and say this was a fun time. Was it stupid? Absolutely. But I enjoyed the GI Joe retardation for a good while. The only thing that killed it for me was a lack of maps. There's no single player.

Lack of maps is a killer. Even with they added a new map every now and then, showing they could make decent maps. You were still mainly playing the same maps you've been playing since launch. Doesn't invigorate the game the same was Premium dropping 4 new maps would do with the previous couple of titles.

I'm certain if Hardline released with more maps, it'd have had a better response. I enjoyed the new modes, but only having two or three maps for them made them super repedative.

Well, I finally configured my server browser so that BF1 on PC actually shows the million servers. How fucking incompetent does a AAA company have to be that features that work flawlessly in indie studios (like quickmatch) are broken here. Even just the way it displays servers stock. Now the issue is that the whole thing is sluggish and seems to spaz out if I so much as want to vault over a wall.

I remember it being a very good game.

There's a playlist of the worst Battlefield maps as a series. The Block from Battlefield: Hardline was one of them. I haven't watched that video yet, but I can hazard a guess because of grenade spam.

I looked at some of them, he doesn't have the best takes. Too many vehicles, too little vehicles. It might be his preferences but plenty of maps there which were completely fine or good.

Other than Operation Metro, I cannot really think of a "bad" Battlefield map. Then again, I don't play Battlefield that much. Would the competitive maps from Hardline count since they're just segments of the larger maps that are too big for 5v5?

Metro is non-traditional Battlefield but also fucking awesome to play. It's like Close Quarters in BF3. When initially announced. "This is awful" then you play and they were so much fun. As someone who is playing some BF4 at the moment, people still love Metro.

That guy just has takes which I think are very narrow. Probably some sperg with "logic" for what is a good map which doesn't factor in if they are fun to play. Just watching one on Al Sundan on BFV. Talking about size, flag placements and stuff. He may not like it, but I came and went from BFV and that map was tonnes of fun when added and got me playing the game again.

He's complaining flags are too far apart, so when you go to capture them there may not be any enemies guarding them. Yet that's actually something that can make a game more competitive and compelling. Not just a grind back and forth from a couple of points to capture.

It's Conquest, not Domination like in CoD.

I hated most of Battlefield 4.
In Battlefield 1, Heligoland Bight was genuinely awful.

I’ll say, of Battlefield 1, every map in vanilla justifies its existence at least somewhat. Some I don’t really enjoy gameplay wise (Fao Fortress, Empires Edge, Argonne Forest), but even those are beautiful aesthetically and are functional.

Every single map in They Shall Not Pass is goat.

Galicia is goat, Lupkow Pass is great, Tsaritsyn is an acceptable clusterfuck, the rest of In the Name of the Tsar bored me.

Zeebrugge and Achi Baba are good, Cape Hellas is acceptable, Heligoland Bight is FUCKING TRASH.

Passchendeale is good, River Somme and Caporetto were ugly and boring piss.

The peak of the series that I played (BF3 vanilla, BF4 vanilla, BF1 in its entirety) was They Shall Not Pass.

A lot of people hated Hourglass in 2042, because it's literally SAND LOL the map, with a Stadium that is way too far from the rest of the objectives, some copy-pasted houses and skyscrapers that are mostly not-interactable. The rework for the map didn't really fix those issues either.

I looked up Battlefield 3 vanilla maps and there isn't a single one that is bad. I think the average quality was higher than Battlefield 1 vanilla, too.

Edit: Battlefield 4 was such trash.

well, how do i know about this? it was one of the top 5 first pirated games i bought and had fun playing with bots but loved the aesthetics overall, the other BF's never really interested me especially the modern ones.
i was more of a medal of honor kid because ps2's were cheap compared to a pc back then and the WW2 thing was cool, especially the songs but 2142 was one of the first futuristic war style game i played.

I'm not considering BF2042 because I haven;'t played it and I heard it is a horrible game at worse, mediocre at best.

How did you do it?

Not only they aren't interactable but you can have snipers camp (and respawn infinitely with their beacon) at the top and kill people from their base.
