If governments cared about your kids being exposed to porn, they'd step on the necks of tech companies to add better features that easily let parents restrict what sites their kids can and can not use without having to use third-party services. But they don't do that. Because it's not about "protecting the kids". It's about being able to kick your door in an three AM because you said "fuck niggers" on some random website.
And this is the main fucking issue I have with idiots advocating for such bullshit regulations. They're too stupid to realize that this shit WILL be turned against them the moment they step out of line. We've seen this shit time and time again.

"DADDY GOBMENT SAVE US FROM OURSELVES".
You need an ID to buy booze, cigarettes, drive, pick up prescriptions, fly domestically, enter government buildings, and - God willing - vote. Accessing porn is where you draw the line?

Obscenity is not free speech. Porn is not protected by the First Amendment. Calling people niggers online is. You are doing a Chicken Little routine at best, and are okay with children interacting with porn sites at worst.

Not to mention any government system will be both more expensive and less effective than just solving the problem yourself. It takes all one ONE afternoon to look up how to do some network level blocking for pornography, there are entire guides, resources, open source softwares and step by step plans you can find and download to make it exceedingly hard for anyone on a network you control to get any sort of porn.

If the argument is people won't bother, won't try, or are too stupid for it, I'm not buying it. Parenthood is an obligation, not a option, and I've seen retards who don't know the first thing about the internet set up entire IPTV DVR setups to steal every streaming service they can find, and do so over a weekend.

And the cold truth is that if you are such a shitheel parent that you'll let them live off in the goon cave for 14 hours a day, banning porn isn't going to fix or save that kid. Stop trying to shift responsibility for families onto government, it never goes well.
A lot of VPNs offer DNS blocking categories, including porn. I'm pretty sure some ISPs even allow DNS blocking nowadays on their web portals if they control your router. There are free services and tools to do this as well, most people just don't know it's even a thing.

I strongly believe if more people, especially parents, knew about this, they would use it.

And that's exactly what's going to happen now that a Democrat uniparty is all but assured thanks to the GOP's fuckups.
Alright guys, hold on now. Fatpacks is, as always, being retarded, but I think I just had a small "come to god" moment with the realization that Fatpacks of all people was trying to stop a thread derail. Think we've gone too far.

Did some of you people forget what it was like to be a teenager, or did you all just live really boring sheltered lives?

If you think an ID stopped teens from accessing these two specific things, then have I got some bad news for you.
it's not just about teenagers you stupid fucking nigger there are 9 year olds who hear about pornhub on tiktok because porn is normalized for some reason and go on it

Reminder that the bong internet shit started with promises that it was just about keeping kids from accessing porn and now bongkiwis can't even get on the site without a VPN.

I hate the smut peddling Jews too but zoomers are mostly turning away from porn sickness on their own, it is not worth letting what small freedoms we maintain online be further locked away. They always, ALWAYS promise it's "for the kids" before they do the most anti-freedom wretched shit imaginable and the fact that some ITT are falling for it makes me wish I could actually curse some of you, you mind-bogglingly stupid fucking retards.

I don't trust the government to build a censorship apparatus and restrict themselves to only censoring the stuff I don't like. The 2nd amendment theoretically covers the right to bear arms, and yet, there is a raft of laws and agencies infringing that right in practice. How about parents actually do some parenting and monitor what their kids are doing online. Last I checked, neglecting your children is already illegal.

From a technical perspective, the only way enforcement of this would work would be for the government to visit literally every website on the internet, classify it, and either send law enforcement after the operators, or if hosted in a different country, block the site at the national level. It might start out as only blocking porn for minors, but in a couple decades, some crisis will happen and it will be extended beyond it's original scope. By that point, everyone will be used to having to get government permission to visit certain sites, and it won't seem like such an imposition. This kind of shit always starts as, "think of the children!!!!!".

EDIT: had same sentence in twice.

In my opinion the first place to start with the online porn issue is to outlaw making profit from porn. If you treat people making profit from making porn as pimps and prostitutes in the legal system I think it would do a lot in the long term as far as removing the glamorization of porn and being a whore for a living.

I'm not too opposed to requiring ID for porn sites because I'm just not convinced it will balloon out to the entirety of the internet. It seems like a huge leap in logic to me. Especially when we already have to use an ID to get alcohol or the likes and that's never been expanded to "You will need an ID to buy caffeine, man!"

what's wrong with requiring ID to access porn websites again
Honest answer privacy and security the more often a person has to give out their personal details the more likely they are to have them stolen further as much as the internet is already a privacy nightmare giving the people who will be serving you porn your real name and address is a deeply uncomfortable idea. It is also very different showing your ID to a bored store clerk than sending it to be potentially filed in a database. It further ties what you do online to your real life and further normalizes the de-anonymization of the internet. There are real trade offs involved here.

If the government really wanted this solved I genuinely believe all they really would have to do is have filtering be something your isp or cell phone provider asks if you would like to opt into the tools already exist and could be made better simply by requiring porn sites to identify themselves as such. there was a proposal floated in the nineties for example to have pornographic sites use the domain name .XXX

I don't see your point. Kids get molested despite the laws in place, so... get rid of the laws because they don't stop all child rapes? You're a silly.

Just say "I want to use xHamster without giving them my ID." I wouldn't blame you.

Bongs never had a First Amendment, so it's apples to oranges. The First Amendment doesn't protect obscenity and it never has. These morons are just angry they won't be able to jerk off anymore without the state making sure they aren't underage.

thats like, work and stuff.
icky
yeah nigga you need to literally be over your kids shoulder 24/7 or you're a bad parent

oh well you don't really need to watch porn anyway wake me when you have to do it for twitter or whatever then maybe there's a problem

seems a lot harder and more invasive than just asking for ID
The problem is, they aren't just "asking for your ID" like a bouncer, they're storing your ID. They will then associate everything on your account with you personally and when that data is leaked, the company may have to pay a fine but so what, the damage is going to go well beyond that. As nice as it is to say "Well they shouldn't be looking at that stuff," that boils down to the same argument of "nothing to hide, nothing to fear." Which doesn't hold up.
